My daughter is 17months old and not compeltely walking yet. Occassionally she will take a few steps but just doesnt seem confidnet to try it all the time. Does anyone else have late walkers? If so what age were they when they walked compeltely - ie all the time? I am not worried about her development or anything as she is progessing and didnt even crawl until 9 months but it is sometimes nice to know your bub is not the only one different from the crowd.
Thanks:) :)

My son didn't start walking until he was 15 and a half months! Don't despair too much!
The only way I could get him walking (I think he had a confidence issue) was to hold him under the armpits while walking, and then gradually loosen my grip. He'd fall over, of course, but I kept telling him to get up, it's all ok. Only about 10 minutes of doing that and hey presto, he was walking!!:D
Maybe worth a try?

try 17 months and still not walking!!!! :D
not worried though. she can walk with assistance (holding her hand) and is just very cautious and wussy about falling over!!!
I didn't walk until 17.5 months and DH was 19 months, so I think there might be a genetic component to it!!!!
But we can both walk just fine now!!!!!!!!! Oh, and talk too. DH was over 2 before he said anything, but he talks pretty well these days (he's a lawyer!!!)
it's funny how ppl look a bit surprised when your child doesn't follow the tex books!!!! they are all doing the necessary things by the time they get to school! :p

I didn't start walking untill I was 15mths and my nieces(twins) are 18mths and one of them has just started walking but the other hasn't.
All babies develop at different rates, I wouldn't worry about it.

My kids both walked early - 11 and 8 months, but a guy at my husbands work didn't even crawl till he was 14months!!!!! So each is different - don't worry too much

My dd started walking when she was about 16 mths. According to my mum, I started walking at about 18mths.
This is still within the "normal" range.
My own personal observation of why some babies walk sooner and others later, is that the lighter weighted ones seem to take off sooner and the babies that are heavier are later walkers.
Of course this could be non factual but it's just what I've noticed personally.
I was a heavy baby and my dd was rather heavier than other babies her age.
I'm sure there is a wide range of what is considered "normal" and there are plenty of late walkers around.
I'm sure there are good reasons for some babies being early and others late, it's just natural variation. :)

My son didn't crawl til 10 mths and he's only been walking confidently for a few weeks, and he's 15 mths. He's a big boy so I'd agree with the weight restriction thing. I would count walking as doing short bursts anyway, and holding hands. I know with Noah he was just too cautious to brake out on his own, until he realised he could carry two things at once if he walked :p
One morning I was getting his milk ready and he walked to me in the kitchen with the TV remote in his hand and this huge smile on his face - typical male loves to be in control of the TV
I wouldn't worry and these things happen in thier own time :)
my little girl is nearly 14 mths and not walking on her own yet, my middle son walked very early(just on 10mths he was off and running!!), and my oldest was somewhere in between, so they are all different. she didnt crawl till about 10 mths but is as bright as a button and has started toddling alone pushing a doll pram or ride on car, so it shouldnt be to long now. dont worry, your bubs will get there when he gets there :)

Harry didn't start walking until he was 17months and 1 week. He did have issues with his feet and ankles which explain it but he just didn't seem interested. I think one thing was we have a small lounge room so he could either crawl or cruise to where he wanted to go. We started moving furniture around and moving stuff out once that happened he gradually gained his confidence and started. The "normal" (hate that term) for children to walk is between 10 and 18 months. But as we all know children develop at different rates and if bub isn't walking at 24 months, I'd see a Paed just to get everything checked out, but you have a few months to go before bub is 2. Hang in there and eventually bubba will walk and if you are anything like me the best part of the day is just watching them walk.
PM me if you want to chat more.

DD #1 was walking by 10 months and was crawling by 6 months
DD # 2 didn't crawl till 12 months and walked by 16 months
DD # 3 didn't crawl till 12 months or walk till 2 years.
#2 and #3 both have hyerflexia which is apparantly why they took so long. They are both double jointed and they dislocate their elbows very easily.
DD #1 is from a different father, so it could also be in the geans. I never crawled, I just shuffeled on my bum till 15 months and then walked.
