Hi

I have a 3.5 month old. He used to sleep just about every night 8pm till 6:30am - maybe occassionally wake up for one feed in that time - of course we loved this.

Now all of a sudden he wakes up just about every hour and I'm feeding him at least 2 times a night. He just wakes up and grizzles constantly - hes easy to get to sleep - just getting him to stay asleep is the problem. Its crazy!!!

Somebody help - he just won't stay in his bed!!!

Could he be teething? I notice my DS is having a similar prob, not every night (as teething usually comes and goes - pain wise) so i just give him childrens panadol (after makin sure not hungry, hot/cold, nappy etc) and then he sleep thru as per normal.

Hope this helps.

Is he chewing on his fingers, hands, anything near his mouth.. bumpy gums, and/or drooling a lot?

Yes he is dribbling lots and sucking his fingers. I'm not sure whats going on - sometimes he wakes up screaming, other times he just has this constant grizzle without seeming to even really be awake. Its driving me and my husband mad - we are so tired. Hes fine during the day but at nighttime we aren't getting to bed till early morning. Just so bizarre after having such a good sleeper that he would change so dramatically. Its every night - I've tried Baby Panadol but it doesnt seem to be making much difference

Try not to get disheartened,
my great sleeper goes through phases every now and then where he'll wake for a few nights in a row then go back to being a great sleeper.

As was suggested he may be teething, it may be a Wonder Week (http://www.cyh.com/HealthTopics/HealthTopicDetails.aspx?p=114&np=122&id=2312)or something else he can't tell you about :)

I hate to say it but my DS was sleeping through at 4 months and now at nine months we're at the end of our tether with his night waking. Some nights he wakes up every hour.
It started when he started teething.
I honestly don't think I'm ever going to get any consistent sleep until he's two and all his teeth are out. It's so depressing. :banghead:

Children definetaly go through phases and sometimes its hard to pinpoint why they're waking more than usual. My 2 year old is now waking most nights while my 6 mth sleeps through.......seems it should be the other way round

By what you describe, sounds like bubs is teething and hopefully this will pass soon so you and your dh can get some much needed sleep :fingerscrossed:

this may sound silly but is he hungry? dd is bottle fed so she is fuller. she was only having 4 bottles, then one day she slept less. i remember someone saying to me once to try and fill her up during the day so what i have done is make up her normal 4 x 240ml bottles and 1x 180ml. before she goes to bed i top her up by pouring 40-60ml in a little bottle, give that to her, put her in her cot awake stil and she is sleeping better again.
she probably won't sleep tonight now.
Good luck

I've found the same thing and may be a coincidence but I think it was because my ds was cold. He usually wakes between 5-7am for a feed but I found he was waking at 2am, 3am, 4am (or all 3 one night!) and just grizzly and he wasn't awake. I would check he hadn't wet himself and would re-wrap him if his hands were out but I figured the temperature was at its lowest at that time so now I make him warmer and he's sleeping through. Sometimes if he was still grizzly but not awake after rewrapping I would give him the dummy and he would suck on it for a bit then push it out and sleep until his usual feed time. Might be worth a try to make him a bit warmer without overheating. Good luck!
