Hi

I was visiting a work colleague today and he'd been up all night as his bub was cutting his first tooth. The thing is that his bub is 12 months old...is this common?? My bub is only 3 months so I know nothing bout teething yet...but 12 months with no teeth? Should he see someone about it? Please excuse my ignorance if this is a common thing!:o

My first son didn't cut any teeth until he was 10months and then he got 8 in two weeks!!!! My friends son got his first at 4 months - so everyone is different. I don't know who he would see if he wanted to see someone, cause i can't think what they could/would do to make him grow some?!? But I would say every baby is sooooo different, and if one comes through shortly it's fine. 2 with now teeth - that would be a worry!!!! My biggest fear was that they might come out WITH teeth!!!!!

Teeth come at such varying stages! Like everything else - usually in bubs own good time!

All I can say is don't wish for them too soon!!

Oh thats good to know, thanks. The poor guy looked so wrecked...not looking forward to this teething thing:)

Lucky wife tho, when our bubs cries in middle of the night my DH plays dead!

my DD is 16months and one tiny (very sharp) eye tooth is all she has so far and its not even fully through...but her gums are lumpy (do they're there somewhere!!) ..i have to say it is annoying when everyone says that "they'll come..teeth that is" and just to "wait it out..they'll be there" but my babe is healthy, happy and can still chew through food better than her cousin who has eight teeth!!:p

Bubs can a do come out with teeth. I'm proof of that LOL. I was born with 2 teeth at 4 weeks premmie. I had a full set by the time I was 6 months old. I was a freak.

Babies often develop in their own time. I wouldn't be concerned unless bub was about 18 months old and hadn't shown signs of teeth.

Just posted exactly this is another thread :o and somewhere else last night too...

My DS got his first tooth at 17mths old  He got a top middle and the first molar on the same side on the same day, the matching pair on the other side came thru a week or so later...he had a gap of 2 teeth on each side. Then he got a bottom middle and the matching molar, then the other side molar then the middle one...does that make sense??? Anyway...this all happened within about 2 or 3 mths, then the rest filled themselves in over the next few mths til all he was waiting for was the one tooth one either side of the bottom middle ones. He waited over 12mths for them and got one of them about a month ago and the last one is about to come thru now. I've not counted his teeth so I'm not sure if he has gotten his 2yr old molars yet:o

I didn't bother talking him to a dentist, my GP said not to worry too much unless they hadn't started coming thru when he turned 2.
DS could eat the same foods as other kids his age, he was biting and chewing hard fruits like apples without a problem at about 12mths, as long as we peeled them. He ate the same foods as we did from 12mths old, we just cut his a bit smaller than we would have needed to if he had teeth.

Forgot to mention we had no idea any teeth had come thru, I put my finger in his mouth to check coz I looked at his sandwich and it looked like there was teeth marks in it and he bit me:p
