When you where a single parent, or now (if you are one).

Did you ever get told to leave a mans pair of shoes or workboots out near the front door and hang some mens clothes on the clothes line every now and then...

When I first moved in here and when I lived out of home before I got told to do this by every second person...

Are people arond here paranoid or have you been told to do it also..??

If not maybe you should do it for peace of mind..

Never have been told that but I have always lived somewhere with men in the house - my brothers, then my flatmates, then my husband.

What a great idea though!

Nope never been told to do that!
I live in a fairly safe area and have a policeman on one side of me and a nosey but nice neighbour on the other side so I feel fairly safe.

I think it's a great idea! It would make me feel safer and more comfortable.

Never been told that at all. but i guess its the same as getting a relative to go to your house and turn lights on when your on holidays, then going and changing what rooms the lights are on in a day or so, just so ppl think someone is home.

I'm too lazy to do my own laundry most days! sheesh!! lol

I've heard of it, but never been told myself to do it... I think I look a bit ballsy and mean, people might think I can do the whole self defence thing :D

Ive been told to do it every since I moved out of home at 14.
Never have bothered though unless there actually is a man in the house - which isnt that uncommon. (and I mean because I have alot of male friends thankies lol - so there is normally one around at some stage to leave his boots outside)

Nope never been told to do so.

Even though, since moving in my new house in february, I have had one incident with strangers knocking on the window of my house at midnight and putting a street pole up my stair case, I'm not too scared being on my own.

A friend of mines sister and her husband and kids live across the road from me, so they look out for me, and so do the neighbours next to them... So I feel pretty safe :)

Yeah, I've done this since my ex moved out. My younger brother is a 6'4" tradesman so he gave me old work boots of his (which are huge lol) and I leave them outside, and move them around occasionally.

ETA: I do live in a security building but I still worry. I once lived in an apartment on the 3rd floor of a security block and still had a home invasion. You can never be too careful or too security conscious.

No I haven't been told to do that but I have two wonderful neighbours that watch out for me. I agree it is a good idea especially if you feel uncomfortable or unsafe..

I was told that alot when I was on my own - but I never did it.

All you need is a nosy neighbour and your dad to drop around to visit his grandchild all the time. Nosy neighbour then tells all other neighbours you have a man always at your house and you're right. Worked for me. :p

No, I've never been told this. I think if I did it, the whole street would be talking about how the girl in number 20 who got knocked up has shacked up with a new bloke already!

Seriously though, I have friends, bros, and my dad coming and going, so no need I think.

Besides...DD's feet are so big that I'll just put her shoes out the front soon :D

What a great idea. When I was living alone and had people at the door I'd quickly ask them to be quiet as my boyfriend's asleep :)

My mum got told this 20yrs ago when she was widowed, I remember her telling it to me. We always had mens clothes hanging on the line etc.

I must admit since spliting with DH I have left his shoes at the front door.

I have very nosy neighbours tho, like they have a glass held to the wall to listen   so I can only fool would be theives maybe, but in saying that my car in the garage got broken into two weeks ago and I have been a bit scared since then. :(
