Reassurance on turning

Hi all

I think I'm just after some reassurance. My last obst appointment showed that the baby is transverse.. so my obst started talking about c-sections if he hasn't turned by 35weeks or so..

I would much prefer to go into labour naturally, than have a planned c-section.

1. is that possible?
2. I know 35 weeks is about the limit to wait until they turn, but has anyone experienced any later?
3. what is the likelihood of that happening?
and
4. some stories of babies turning even at the last minute would be nice. :)

One of our July mummy's bubs was still breech at 36wks so she went in to have bubs turned. Worked a treat too !

But i wouldnt stress too much at this point !

Try googling "Spinning Babies" they have lots of info in regards to getting babies to turn.

Many swear by acupuncture which is another option & ive also heard many speak of swimming allowing bubs to turn.

ETA : And yes many babies turn at the last minute its not that uncommon !

i had dd3 turned at 36 or 37 weeks...

Same here with my DD at 36 weeks, it was a little uncomfortable IMO, but fast and effective so i was able to deliver naturally :smiliedance: Good luck sweets, do google the information as suggested, hope you find some reassuring info!.

My DS2 was head down, but then decided at 38wks that he wanted to be breech. He turned back to head down at 39wks.

He weighed 10lb 2oz and I'm only a small person, so there is tons of room in there. :thumbsup:

Don't let the doctors push you into having a c-section. I've had both a c-section and 2 natural births and it really is worth fighting for a natural birth.

Goggle 'optimal foetal positioning' for tips on getting your bub into the right position.

Also at 35 weeks there's still plenty of time to go from transverse to normal without intervention. From my experience, most healthy pregnancies go wrong when birth is interfered with. Don't let anybody frighten you into anything without being well informed - especially surgery.

Tash, I don't even know why they're THINKING about c-sec at this point - with more than 10 weeks to go, you've got AGES before that bubba 'needs' to turn, and plenty of room for him/her to do so.

The obs just talk in worst-case scenario terms, I think, to avoid you being disappointed if that's the way it goes down - I don't think they realise how much undue stress this causes.

Like the others said, google optimal fetal positioning, and start using the techniques to make it happen - get down on your hands and needs, don't lean back in recliners etc, lean forwards with your belly between your knees etc....I'm sure that you'll be fine! :hugs:

My DD was undiagnosed breech and with our baby due in August we don't know yet how it is sitting (find out today) but my ob isn't concerned until 38 weeks as they can still turn a bit before then and she would only do a ceaser no earlier than 38 weeks anyway so if it was breech at 38 weeks she would schedule a ceaser sometime in that week. I would doubt they would let you go into labour naturally as with DD I went naturally as she was undiagnosed and I ended up at 10cm dilated whilst we were waiting for the spinal block to be put in, pretty scary and more of an emergency ceaser at that time. Good luck though, I am due in August and there were a couple of mums whos bubs were breech and have only turned in the last week or so. If the you were looking at turning the baby if it is still breech check with your ob if they would do it as some will not turn a breech bub - the ob that I see will not do it.

I know friends obs though have said they have until 36 weeks then they will be booked in for a ceaser so each ob must differ.

I think my obst. is just trying to make me aware of what could happen also. My concern is that I will not be able to establish breastfeeding straight away if I don't go into labour naturally.

I totally agree! At 29 weeks it's way to early to be talking c/sections.

My DS was transverse and he turned at 32 weeks with pretty much no encouragement whatsoever from me.

I have a history of my water breaking early with my first birth (broke at 36 weeks) and this is what the concern is with a transverse lie - if the water breaks, the cord can prolapse and cause problems.

Even in view of my history my OB was only going to put me in hospital for observation at 35 weeks if he hadn't turned by then. And my OB was pretty over the top cautious on everything. If he tried to tell me he was going to do a c/section at 35 weeks I would've kicked him.

I'm sure you're bub will turn and none of this matter in a few weeks :hugs:

I'm not sure if this can be done in your situation but my baby was breech at 38 weeks and the doctor performed an ECV to turn her. This is where the doctor turns the baby from the outside by placing his hands on your belly.

It was painful for a few minutes but better than having a C-section I'd imagine. My bub is now head-down so hopefully all will go well and we can have a vaginal birth.

Might be worth asking about.
