View Full Version : Green Poop
My completely b/f bub is suddenly having green poo, she's 7 weeks old and normally has yellow poops.
I'm not sure if this is something I should be worried about  ?
Or is this normal?

Could be something you are eating? Could be your supply is increasing or she is eating more(some people think its from over feeding)? BUT!!!!!! If she is otherwise happy and content don't worry about it.:)
this happened with my first baby. a midwife friend said that it had something to do with the baby receiving lots of the foremilk which is higher in lactose. i resolved this by expressing the first 20 mls off and then feeding. the green poo went and i had a more relaxed baby ( less wind etc ). Good luck

I was told that it could be 3 things - a cold, underfeed/overfeed or wind in the bowels. Hope that helps. I was also told that if they don't burp up the air in about 10 minutes it goes to the bowels. This all seemed to fit with my munchkin.

I have yet another suggestion - my bub had a similar thing for a little while and I was told that it is sugar related. ie high sugar content = green poo. This seemed to fit as I was rather enjoying a packet of columbine (caramel) lollies I had received for Christmas at the time... :D When the columbines ran out, so did the green poo...
But I was told it was nothing to worry about.
Hi,
I too have been told it's sugar related, but to do with them getting too much foremilk and not enough hindmilk.
I have an oversupply, which means that DS was getting too much lactose/sugary foremilk, and he was totally WIRED for 2 weeks till I found out what was wrong. And yes, green poop...
Now I anticipate when he's due for his next feed and express 20-30ml of foremilk about 15mins before - it's a pain, but I've got a much happier little boy who can sleep and doesn't scream for no reason.
The excess lactose was also causing horrible wind pains, and making digestion very difficult for him. Poor little bugger.
My DH, who has battled sugar and carb addiction all his life, could see it was sugar related and kept asking what I was eating  I've hardly eaten any sugar - it's the lactose (ie. milk sugar). Turns out his mum had the same problem with him as a bub, and he was 24/7 "colic". She was told to just accept it and deal with it. She's wishing they knew then what we know now...
