The school holidays are driving me crazy already and it is only day 1, so I am after some ideas.
Our library doesn't offer childrens programs, we don't have a playground suitable for under 7's (Matthew has a tanty if I wont let him climb 10m off the ground on the spiderweb thing at the park) so I want to try and avoid it if possible, they have no friends in town, there are no museums or anything, so I am lost for ideas with it being winter.

some indoor ideas....
* Playdough/modelling craft
* Lego
* Indoor cubby building - then sleep the night in their cubby??
* Painting (the older ones might like a paint by numbers kit?)
* Drawing
* Making, gluing, sticking etc
* Scrapbooking
* Timed runs around the house - can they beat their best time?
* Doll/Toy tea parties/dance party/dress up party - with invites, decorations and real food you could make it into a 1/2 day activity with each kid having a different job
* Make them a book - with pages and a cover (just stapled together) and get them to write and decorate it ... you could pick a theme or let them choose their own
* cooking - one kid each day gets to choose the recipe
* shopping - get them to write their own lists of about 5 items and they have to find those items at the shop and for the older ones write down how much they cost on their list
* reading
* simple board games
* jigsaw puzzles
and if all else fails - DVD's or computer games!
good luck!!

Heres some of the things we get up to - but its hard with school hols when the weathers not great. Some have been said already.
Playdough
Baking - they love to cook stuff and then eat it! Good life skill for them later on too.
Craft stuff - drawing, gluing, stickers, stamping, oh and our 4year old likes to make his own books (mostly about dinosaurs:laughing: )with pictures he draws and then tells me 'his' story to write in it.
Computer games - educational ones of course!
Dancing to music in the lounge - this keeps em going for a while!
Blowing bubbles - if its raining we do it in the shed.
Playing outside in sandpit, trampoline etc but more often than not lately its raining.
Build a town out of their toys - just using things like dump trucks, cars etc and make buildings with stuff like tissue boxes, ice cream containers etc.
Get them making cards for relatives for Christmas/B'days to put away for later.
DVDs - always a sanity saver when you've just had enuf of school holidays:laughing:
Hide and seek - altho if its raining our house not really big enuf to hide in!

I got them a craft thing each from Spotlight yesterday which kept them busy for an hour or so.
It is 5 degrees and wet today, meant to snow later...........so they will be inside all damn day.
We have a very small house (picture those little cabins in the woods that you see in movies, lol) so they don't much much room to play inside.
I was fed up with DS1 by 7:30 this morning, he has been at his brother since the minute he got up for simple things like talking. This child must be hitting puberty early or something. :confused:

Now I know why we banned ALL paint in the house years ago.
DD didn't put hers away on the top shelf in Jacobs room like I asked her too (she's 8.5, I shouldn't have to do it for her). Matthew got his hands on it and his hands are now bright blue (it wont wash off even though it's just regular paint), there are blue spots on the carpet in the bedroom and blue all over DD's sheets. :banghead:

we are in the same type of area we have nothing here so what i do is...
give the kids mummy and daddys old clothes and shoes to play with, baking is a big one, have an indoor picnic, print out some pictures and have them colour them then cut them up into jigsaws or laminate them and make placemats to give to family and friends, build a playhouse out of old furniture and sheets we did it when we were kid and my kid love it,
good luck :thumbsup:
