Hi

I was just going to be so I checked on Jaz and she has wet her bed again.

She is 4 1/4 and decided a couple of weeks ago to stop wearing a nappy to bed because her cousin (who is a bit over a year younger than her) had stopped wearing them to bed.

Since then she has wet the bed more nights than not. Any suggestions for how to help her?

She got out of nappys quite late. It was a bit of a struggle and was forced upon us when she started preschool a bit over 12 months ago and she needed to be toilet trained. Physically she has been a slow developer e.g. took her first steps at 17 months but didn't really walk until 20 months and 1 week.

At the moment I take her to the toilet when I go to bed (or Cathy does if she is up later than me) and then we go in and ask her if she needs the toilet when she wakes up. We try not to make a big deal of it when she has an accident, but of course she is embarrased.

I'm sure some of you have been there before us, so I'd love some ideas.
Many thanks
Graeme

I remember babysitting a little girl a few years ago who took some kind of medicine before she went to bed to help stop her wetting it. Maybe talk to your doctor about her and see if theres anything they can do. Although they'll probably say she'll outgrow it fairly soon.
Kids do things when they are ready, you could try those 'drynites' sleep pants in the meantime.

Hi Graeme, I know how frustrating this can be, my nephew wet the bed until he was about 6. My sister used to take him to the loo before she went to bed, and ended up learning to "sleep wee" which wasn't much help!

What cured him was a placebo - I got a little bottle with a dropper and filled it with water and a couple of drops of food colouring and vinegar. I took him off to a quiet spot and told him that a lady at work had given me these drops, her little boy had the same problem, and every night before he went to bed he put 3 drops under his tongue and every morning he put 2 drops under his tongue and in a couple of weeks it stopped him from wetting the bed. We kept it a "secret" (my sister told me that she'd see him sneaking the drops from the bottle under his pillow!). Anyway, he stopped wetting the bed within a couple of weeks - had a few accidents, but it really helped.

I guess it would depend on what your daughter is into - maybe it could be fairy water or whatever, kids are gullible and the power of the mind is amazing!

Good luck! :)

Yay! No accidents last night :) (we took her to the toilet at 10, 1.30, and 6.30). She's gone back to sleep.

If she keeps having accidents, the "drynites" sound a great idea.
We'd prefer not to use medication yet, but could try the placebo. Thanks for the suggestions.
