Hi all,
Just thought I would start a new thread in the parenting section for those from the pregnancy section.
Hi Hayleylea - well I went through all the photos I had of Connor - and I think I must be imagining it - but can't find any at the moment with similarities. Must be something I catch when I am with him. Oh well.
Hi Bingo - I highly recommend a little pool, it takes them a little while to adjust to the difference in water temperature - especially when their baths are on the warmer side. But it has taken Connor 5 attempts and he loves it now.
We still have a bit of problem with vomit at the moment. Not sure what the cause of it is. I believe it is a small form of reflux, and it doesn't seem to bother him - but I do have a new fragrance for myself called 'la vomite', I think if I changed my clothes everytime he threw up I would need a wardrobe twice as big. But I suppose he will grow out of it eventually.
Has any of your bubbies had signs of getting up to crawl or sit up?

I found it! i was having troubles finding this section - very slow today cause its so hot! ;) nkenward -maybe it was just the photo i had up of cooper last time?? I changed it again i thought this pic i took of him today was just adorable! No signs of getting ready to sit up or crawl at this stage - doesnt that happen around 6 months? Cooper hates tummy time - ive tried everything but he just hates it!! I keep perservering though. He holds his head up but stil a little wobbly at times - He will get there though. He is very alert and getting his own little character about him now! So cute!
Anyway id still love to see another pic of connor, im sure cooper is the most photographed kid in the world lol......and my dog would be the most photographed dog in the world too.
Where would we be without digital cameras!!!!!?? I love being able to just snap away and keep the ones I like and get rid of the ones i dont!
Hi guys,
well La Vomit must be a popular scent because I too have been wearing it of late. I have to say it's not large vomits but just enough to leave that lovely scent.
We don't have any signs of crawling let alone the ability to flip over on her own. Maddi doesn't mind tummy time, just lately she's started to use her hands to grab at things while she's on her tummy. It's usually during tummy time that she does a little vomit but I figure if I had to rest on my tummy like that then I probably would too.
But she is trying to sit up all the time.

Cooper only vomits occasionally, probably once a day which i think im lucky because both my sisters kids had BAD REFLUX they were vomiting all the time!
Everything else going good here..
Hi everyone,
I still haven't got around to updating the photo of Paddy but will one of these days. I've had gastro since Saturday night which has been a real pain but I think I am finally better today. Paddy had to have a few bottles of expressed milk on Sunday and Monday but cracked it by Monday night and refused to drink from the bottle (happened to my poor husband too Bingo - Paddy was just crying and refusing to take it from him even though he has happily done so before) -I had to breastfeed him to stop the crying even though I felt sick and was dying to go to bed -oh well - that's the life of a mother.
Paddy hates tummy time too Hayleylea - just lies there and whinges. He's a strong little fellow though and can hold his head up well so I'm not worried about it. Paddy will sit in the corner of a couch but is far from ready to sit up on his own or crawl (don't think he is meant to at 12 weeks). He now loves this toy dog he has with crinkly ears and he pulls the head to his face and sucks on the nose while he constantly crinkles the ears. He was sent another toy dog as a present yesterday and instantly picked up the ears and seemed to be wondering why they weren't making a crinkling noise - very funny.
Anyway hope everyone is well and will check back in on this new thread soon.

Hey guys, this is probably going to be a stupid questions and im quite embarrased to ask it lol :o
My MIL came over today and i was bathing cooper and she kept pointing at the "dint" in his chest when he breathes....my mum reckons its normal and so does my sister - does anyone else get what i mean?? and do your kids have it? im all paranoid now. Its only when he is laying down, its not huge or anything....:o i feel like such a dill for posting this.
Anyway hope all is well with everyone

Hi there Hayleylea,
I wouldn't worry about it too much. As long as he is breathing I think that is all that matters - and he looks pretty good if you ask me.
I had a chance to meet Anna today, we had a lovely get together in Melbourne at DJs.
It seems Connor is starting to try and pull himself up into a sitting position. He still is rather unsteady - but I assume he will get there. I try and put him in a sitting position on the bed, as I feel if he rolls over - he won't hurt himself. He will be coming up to his 4 month old birthday next Thursday, and will be 17th week on Saturday.
my god how grown up does Paddy look! Cute photo Cath. Hope your tummy bug has cleared up.
Haylelea I wouldn't worry about that dent in his chest. I'm sure if it was anything to worry about your MHN would have said something to you. I'll have a look at Maddi's chest tonight to see if she also has one, but I can't say I've really noticed one.
Good to hear the get together in Melbourne went well. I couldn't find a way down there early enough so we missed out. Would have loved to have met everyone and had the opportunity to sample some of Anna's truffles.
We are off to Melbourne tommorow morning for our family get together. I'm really looking forward to sleeping in air conditioned comfort as we are staying in a hotel the night. Then Maddi and I are off to Bairnsdale to stay with my parents for a couple of weeks for some R&R. I'm really looking forward to getting some help from Mum with Maddi and mums cooking.

hi guys,
i was reading the freebies section so i thought i would try my luck with emailing around and asking for freebies...so i tried my luck with NUK! I wrote to the germany company and today a 125ml snoopy nuk bottle arrived in the mail - with lid and teat of course! Its a bit small for his formula as he is on a bigger amount then the bottle holds but its excellent for his water and will be good for his juices when he gets older....just thought id tell you guys incase you want to try your luck :D
Hi everyone,
I obviously finally got around to updating Paddy's photo. I am still trying to get a photo of him smiling but he refuses to smile for the camera which drives me nuts. He has such a cute smile (a dimple in each cheek like his dad) but as soon as I point the camera at him he gets this serious look on his face - I think he knows that it is going to flash in his eyes and isn't too happy about it.
We went to our second yoga class this morning which was great- Paddy fell asleep for half of it which is what he did last time (had to feed him and miss out on some of the class to achieve it this time but he was such a good boy really). One of the exercises he was lying on his tummy on my legs which I had pulled up to my chest while I was lying on the floor which he found very funny - he started laughing but then the laughter turned into crying - don't think he knew how to react poor little man.
Good work with the free bottle Hayleylea -how did you word your request for free stuff? I love free stuff!!
Isn't this cooler weather so much better -finally feel a bit energetic to do some things.I also think our pram dramas might be over (fingers crossed - a few successful trips this weekend) so I am hopefullly going to get out for some walks this week and work on losing a few kilos so I am able to wear bathers when Paddy is about 6 months old - planning on taking him to swimming lessons.
Anyway hope everyone is well and having fun with their little ones. Speak again soon.

Hi cath
I just wrote to them saying that i had a new born baby and i was just requesting sample products from everyone to try him out on. I also included that i had heard that some companies do this and i was hoping they would as i have heard good things about them. Anything would be helpfull and if you are able to send me products my address is blah blah blah and thank you for your time. It was along the lines of that...i cant even remember what now but it wasnt some long well worded email. I love freebies though, i havent heard of people getting them off NUK so i was excited when i got it in the mail!
:D
Hi guys,
good job on the free samples from NUK! It inspired me to email Avent and complain about my Isis breast pump. It makes this damn awful squeak when I use it and it irritates the hell out of me. So hopefully they will help me solve that problem.
Maddi and I are still visiting my parents in Gippsland. The weather has been fabulously cool. I just didn't pack enough clothes for this type of weather for the both of us. Thing is that Maddi has been waking at least twice during the night for a feed. It's killing me. I don't know what is wrong! Tonight I tried to offer her a supplement feed of formulae after her breastfeed and she cracked it and just wanted to go to sleep. I thought she might have still been hungry and thats why she is waking during the night. Uhhhh!!:( I guess it will have to wait until we get back home and see the MHN to get some advice and see if she has still gained weight. Maybe she's missing her dad?
I am still on the hunt for a second hand bumbo. I have tried bidding on several on ebay and in the closing seconds of the auction I get outbid. Does this happen to you guys? It frustrates the hell out of me. Does anyone have any ideas how I can be more successful with this ebay stuff?
Pidgeon chest, sounds interesting. I've never heard of it before. Is it like a hollow in the wall of the abdomen or something?
hayleylea
03-02-2006, 06:50
not exactly sure what the technical term or why its called pidgeon chest i will be going to the doc or CHN soon though. It has actually got better, some babies grow out of it and some dont so maybe cooper is.
Maddi might just be having a growth spurt?
I want one of them Bumbos too!! they look awesome! I hate when you get outbidded at the last minute on ebay too...i suppose your best bet is to beat them people at their own game and bid in the last seconds?! I have done that a few times. Sorry i dont have any other advice for you on that one though.
Cooper is going Great! He is such a good little boy, makes me want another one! Ill probably get a naughty one next time lol. I got my period for the first time yesterday  Didnt miss them thats for sure. And of course it had to happen when i was down at my mums with no spare clothes and when i was shopping :o  Not happy jan lol. Oh well these things happen!
oh god that dreaded P word. I'm dreading the day my period returns as I used to get such terrible headaches ect. I'm hoping that since having Maddi they may have changed for the better. Since I'm BF I'm crossing my fingers that it won't return for a few more months.
I have no idea what was going on with Maddi's sleeping but now she is back to only getting up at ~3am for a feed. I still wish that she would sleep all the way through, it would be soooo nice to have a night of total sleep. I have tried giving her a feed of formuale to top up her last feed for the night but it hasn't worked. Oh well.... what can you do.
Whats happened to Anna, are you still away in Victoria on holiday? I hope we haven't lost her when the thread changed over.
Hayleylea I know what you mean about having another baby. I've also been thinking of late how nice it would be to have another but I have to wait at least another 9 months due to my ceaser problems. Which is probably a good thing as I'm sure having another one now would really wear me out no matter how good idea I think it is. When Maddi was a few weeks old and I was getting up to feed her every 3-4 hours and she cried and I was so tired I remember thinking I could never do this again. How wrong I was. It's funny how those memories fade.
Cath I was reading your entry about wearing bathers and I thought to myself oh my god - me in bathers is going to be a bad thing if I don't get out there and do some exercise. Now that the weather has cooled down I really should make an effort. I can't wait to get Maddi to swimming lessons.:p

Hi there all,
Just caught up with all your posts. I am a bit behind - haven't had a good chance to get on here and post updates.
We are going great guns at the moment - we have past the 4 month mark/18 weeks, and seem to be going really well. I have just noticed in the last week how much Connor has changed, he is really growing up. He has become really interested in everything, anything will catch his attention and is starting to prefer Mum & Dad's company to anyone else. But most of all, he is slowly developing his own physical appearance, and is slowly losing that newborn face. I can't believe how quickly time flys, and as much as I can't wait for him to start on solids, then crawl and then walk - I really don't want to lose him too quickly.
He is still sleeping through - occassionally he might wake up - but he just wants his blankets back on - and he then goes back to sleep. But in 4 weeks, he has woken once for a bottle - but hey it was a warm night - he was probably thirsty.
Getting him to sleep at night though has been a bit of a challenge over the last couple of nights - but I think it adds to his awareness that we aren't going to bed too.
I have seen Anna around - I did mention to her about the change in threads when I met her at Chadstone.
Glad to see everyone is settling into their new lives as mummies. I have to say I am really enjoying being a mum now, its hard to imagine what life was like without Connor. As for having another - its on the cards - but not for sometime - I don't think Troy could handle me with looking after 2 bubs at once. I think he enjoys some mummy/wife time!!!! ;)
Oh, I finally have a new photo that looks ok. this was taken today - so at 4 months/18 weeks.
Hey girls I found you all!
I've only just hopped back onto bub hub after my trip to Melb - just been so busy here! I didn't get lost but I did have to search for this thread!
Natalie, it was so great to meet you and Connor - I really enjoyed my cuddle with him, what a gorgeous bubby you have! It was also great to meet your friend Loretta - I pm-ed her yesterday when I came across her on hub! Hope she's enjoying it all.
By the way, we're coming back up for another visit! I've posted in the Melb mums meet, but just so you know, I'm coming up March 5-11 with all my girlies this time! Hubby has to work 6th, 7th & 8th then we're taking the rest of the week off to shop and "sight-see" and heading home late Sat night. I've just booked some LUSH accommodation at apartments@docklands which look sooo beautiful! I might catch up with you again if there's another meet on during that time! Maybe I'll get to meet Bingo & Maddi as well!
So how is everyone else going? Immy is now 3 months and I was worried for a bit as she went through a bit of a change - she was starting to get fussy, feeds were getting shorter and she started waking again at about 5:30am. I'm glad to say it's settling down now - I make sure she naps even when we're out, I keep her awake long enough to get a good "last feed" between 8-9pm and the last few nights she's slept through til 7ish which has been great. Generally she's just a gorgeous, happy baby!
Immy really doesn't like tummy time much either though. I pop her on her tummy every couple of days but her poor little head looks REALLY heavy & she ends up struggling to lift it - instead her little legs go flying up instead!:D It's hilarious! Poor chicken! Sometimes she also does this "Superman" thing when her legs go up and her arms wave about and her head bobs up and down but she's usually screaming by this point! *sigh* she'll get it eventually!
Well my latest news is that I got the dreaded AF back. Yep, can't believe it myself. Last Monday I was chatting to a friend, had a lot on my mind and that the last thing I could deal with would be to get my period back, then sure enough, the next morning there it was. Went to the doc to discuss (I've also just started Weight Watchers with some friends) and she gave me a script for the mini-pill, which she know's I probably won't fill, but it's for "just in case". It's never agreed with me and what's the point if we're thinking of a 4th baby anyway? If we go there, it'll probably be later this year. So anyway, after a pretty crappy week (to say the least) I'm glad it's all over and I'm thanking my LUCKY STARS that I did get it (in a way) because Shane & I had a LOVELY old time in Melb and didn't use anything (that was the ONLY thing I asked him to pack but you know men...) so I'm just thankful that I'm not reporting a pregnancy right now! :D
Ok girls, can't wait to hear more from you all in this new post! Chat soon!

Hi Ladies! Do you mind if I join you?
My name is Fiona and I have a beautiful baby girl - Claire - born 11 October 2005.
I am just about to have my 30th birthday (eek!) and I live on the Sunshine Coast in QLD.
I have had a real quick read through all your posts - just wanted to post before Little Miss wakes up - she's been asleep for over 3 hours now & never really sleeps much during the day, so I'm on borrowed time here!! But I can totally associate with you Bingo, on the squeaky Avent Isis pump! Mine did the same thing, but only from time to time - usually when you really wanted it to be quiet & inconspicuous!
And those bumbo seats! They look awesome! I'd never heard of them before I saw a few on eBay (yep - total eBay addict here!!) Claire would love that - also not a fan of the tummy time, although she has been able to hold her head up since she was a couple of months old, she still really hates being on her tummy for more than a few seconds. I think she just wants to be able to look around & see everything that's going on.
I don't know that I've posted on bub hub since I had Claire - too busy! So I'm going to have to check my signature & pics.....
Hi Fiona,
welcome to this thread! It's great to chat to October Mums online and compare stories. As for my Isis pump I wrote them an email and they responded the very next day. They suggested I replace the diaphragm that came with the pack. And if it fixes it they will send me a replacement to replace my spare as it should have lasted a lot longer than it has. I'm on holidays at the moments so it will have to wait until I get home to try it out. I'll let you know if it works.
I'm still looking for a second hand bumbo as they are pretty expensive but they are pretty hard to get hold of. When they sell on ebay the go for quite a lot so I might just have to bite the bullet and lash out and get a new one.
I think Maddi is teething :( as she is constantly chewing on her fingers. I mean really chewing. And everything that is the right size she pops straight into her mouth. I really hope for my boobies sake that they don't pop through anytime soon.
Great to hear you had a good time in Melbourne Anna. I've just filled out my script for my minipill and haven't been game to start it as I'm scared it will interfere with my BF and might start my AF going??? I have no idea as I've never used it before.
Well I've got to go because as usual when I get on here Maddi wants to play with her Mum.

hey guys and welcome to you fiona and your beautiful baby girl! look forward to hearing more from you soon. Welcome back anna aswell :)
not much to say in this post..just got back from a few days at mums so i have to go unpack the car!
talk soon
Hi everyone and welcome Fiona,
good to hear you had fun in Melbourne Anna. I can't believe the periods are reappearing (I guess it has to happen some time). My Ob. told me if I was fully breastfeeding it shouldn't reappear until about 6 months so hopefully I have another 3 months without it. Dean and I have decided to forget about contraception and play "russian roulette" and see what happens (not much chance of anything at this point as we have tragically had sex once since Paddy was born -will get back into the swing of things one of these days hopefully). It took me a while to get pregnant both times (I had a miscarriage before getting pregnant with Paddy)and my cycle is all over the place so I am not expecting to fall pregnant easily so am not going to go back on the pill in case it stuffs my system up even more.
Good luck on ebay everyone - I was addicted when I was pregnant but am trying to avoid it a bit now as we don't have the funds for me to go too crazy at the moment.
Can I ask how everyone gets their little ones to sleep? I've realised that I have fallen into a bad habit over the last month of breastfeeding Paddy to sleep which is not good because it means that I am the one who always has to put him to bed now. Think I will have to start breaking this habit this week (have tried putting him to bed and just patting him this afternoon which he hasn't been happy about and I have been weak and given in - he sounds so sad crying and I hate it). Any tips for breaking this bad habit?
Better go - the little man is hungry.Hope everyone is well.

Thanks for the welcomes!
Unfortunately I won't be using my Avent pump for a while as I had to give up BF due to recurrent & severe mastitis. I was devestated! But Claire is doing really well on the bottle and is absolutely thriving - growing like mad & quite advanced for her age in a lot of areas - so I have quit beating myself up over it! Still, I'd be interested to hear how the fix suggested by Avent goes. I am definitely going to give BF another go for #2.
Funny you should say about Maddi getting a tooth - I have been suspecting Claire may be getting a tooth for a couple of weeks now as she also has been chewing ferociously on her hands 24/7 & drooling constantly. I have a brother who was actually born with teeth ( ) so I know we do have early teethers in the family! Does your bub keep putting her shirts/skirts/dresses in her mouth to chew on? Apparently this can go on for several weeks up to a couple of months before a tooth actually comes in.
My AF (sadly!) did make her appearance very soon after I cut right back on BF. My first cycle lasted only 10 days (oh yay!) but my second was 27. I had very bad, irregular cycles before finally managing to fall PG (after 26 months!!) so I'm hoping being PG has whacked them back into sync! We too have been going the "Russian Roulette" route (I like that one!) with birth control as I am hesitant to go back on any hormonal type birth control & everything else is inconvenient. Again - with us the point is pretty well moot also!! :o
Cath, I think if you have to BF to sleep at this early stage it's OK unless you really do want to break the habit. Unfortunately I have no tips on this though! My Little Miss is a sleep-fighter and will scream the house down for ages before she finally nods off. But I should be grateful as she has slept through the night since about 5-6 weeks old. She now goes from about 6.30pm - 6.30am. I have to hold her & walk around (no sitting or standing still!) patting her off to sleep. I'd love to hear if you discover a breakthrough as I also have had no luck with putting her in her cot & patting her off to sleep there!
I'll quit waffling now - Claire's awake! Thanks for letting me join your thread!

During the day cooper is great if he is tired ill pick him up and pat him till he closes his eyes then pop him in his cot and he will talk his way to sleep (sometimes!! othertimes he wont have a bar of it!) He is liking his dummy again, he has it to go to sleep with - he gave it up for a month but now likes it again and i figure there is no harm in it. Of a night he is a bit of a sleep fighter - i have to sit on the bed and bounce up and down with him and pat his bum...i shouldnt complain though because it takes 10-15 mnutes at the most.
Fiona i too had to give up breast feeding because i got a kidney stone and the medication i was on was too strong, i still beat myself up about it on occasions but i couldnt be happier now he is on a bottle, he is much happier too :D
reading about breastfeeding until Paddy went to sleep made me smile because I went through the exact same thing when Maddi was younger. It didn't bother me too much at the time because it was a special bond that we had with each other. But it made me worry that I would be the only one that could put her to bed and what would happen if I wanted to go out? We have developed a routine now where she has a nice bath around 8pm and straight after bath she has a feed. Sometimes she will go straight to bed after that or she may sit up for a little while. It just took me a little while to see and recognise the signs that she was ready for sleep. Then I would put her in her cot, wrap up her legs and put the dummy in. Then walk straight out, I found that if I stood there she would cry. She will normally go to sleep. The first time I did this she cried for about 15 minutes. Then with each night it took less and less time. Now she rarely cries when put to bed, in fact if she's tired and I don't put her to bed she will cry. I also have made it a point to let other people put her to bed sometimes just to get her used to it. I don't know if my experience helps but you could just give it a go.
Whilst I can get Maddi to go to bed my problem is getting her to stay asleep. She is still waking at around 3am for a feed. I have tried sticking the dummy in but it only makes her go to sleep for about another hour and she's up again.
Yes Fiona, Maddi sticks whatever clothing will reach into her mouth and drench it with her drool. I started pulling it out but I've now given up and just let her go hell for leather.
Ok gotta go and get the girly ready for her bath.

Hi there Fiona and welcome to the October '05 mummies section. I too am bottle feeding. I was breastfeeding until 3 months, but found that Connor was becoming really fussy, especially during the night, and then decided to start waking every 2 hours. I personally couldn't keep up, and I was quite miserable. My husband made the decision a lot easier for me, he went out one night and bought a tin of formula - and said he would take over to give me a break - but it just got easier - and Connor was a totally different baby. In 4-5 weeks, he dropped a feed and I was only up once a night for 2 weeks, and for the past 3 weeks he has slept through. I sometimes feel guilty for giving in so easily, but I know Connor is a lot better off and happier now.
Welcome back Anna, glad to see you enjoyed Melbourne, and it was great to meet you person. Immy is gorgeous, and Connor certainly doesn't mind the cuddles at all. Hopefully we will be able to meet up in March.
Yep I got the dreaded AF about 3 weeks ago. I totally agree - I don't miss that bit at all - after 12 months of not having it - it certainly is a pain in the bum!!!
Hayleylea aren't freebies great!!!! My Mum actually put an ad in the Herald Sun when Connor was born, and we got a voucher for this 'showbag' type thing from Amcal Chemist. It is great, full of all sorts of stuff.
If you are interested there is a website called www.thesamplecentre.com.au if you register, and fill in this survey, you pay something like $12 (to cover postage) and they send you out this box of goodies to try out - and you get a box maybe worth $30-$50 worth of sample products. They usually have it 4 times a year. The last one I got (for example) we were given 4 packets of the chocolate pods (same size as what you buy instore), a couple of donay hay mags and heaps of other stuff.
Cath, as for settling Connor to sleep, he is quite strange, we usually get him off to bed around 7.30. Sometimes he will be really out of it, and we can just put him into bed, and he will fall asleep - other times I just rock him to sleep. That too can be a habit - but I don't mind - I love watching him fall asleep in my arms. :) I think as long as it works for you, go with it. But if you want to wean him off breastfeeding - you will probably just have to swap it with something that works - I am sure you will work something into it. Maybe just have DH rock him to sleep for a few nights and see if that works - if your not there Paddy may not smell the milk. Just a suggestion.

Aargh! Talking about sleep issues, we just had a big one!
Claire tonight started showing that she was tired & wanted to go to sleep around 6pm, which is pretty normal. But instead the usual 10-20 mins of screaming & wriggling & throwing herself around she just had a bit of a grizzle & then was "asleep". I put her in her cot and then the eyes flickered open & it began! Almost 3 and a half hours of screaming and I've finally just put her down & had my dinner.
Ugh! My back is killing me from carrying her around - as I said before, she won't let me sit or stand still - I must be moving around, which is just murder on my back! Every time I tried to sit down or change her position to ease up on my back, she'd completely wake up again & start screaming & I'd have to start all over again from scratch! I ended up having to take her for a half hour long ride in the car.
She does normally fight sleep, but she is rarely this bad. The only other recent drama we've had was when we went to a wedding this weekend just gone & she screamed almost constantly for nearly 5 hours! But I think that started because she wasn't used to all the people & attention and then she just ended up "past-the-point" as we call it, where she is just so worked up all she can do is scream.
I wonder if this recent sleep thing might be because she is going through a growth spurt?? Has anyone else had this? They go through another spurt around 4 months, right? From memory she was more grizzly than usual around her last growth spurts.
Also, has anyone got any suggestions about how to get babies of this age used to being around people? (It's been a rough few days!!) I was reading somewhere recently that babies around 3-4 months start getting unsettled around unfamiliar situations & people. Have any of you started experiencing this?
I'm not looking forward to Friday - 4 month shots :( Claire got a bit sick last time with fever & was pretty cranky for about 2 days. Looks like my nightmarish few days ain't over yet! Oh, I shouldn't say that! She really has been exceptionally good when she hasn't been over-tired & crying. Sigh! I'm just exhausted!
Sorry to blabber on so much again, it's just been a while since I've been able to talk to other mums with bubs around the same age (still looking for a mother's group in my area!)
Thanks for letting me get this off my chest!

freebies are certainly great nkenward - i tried the sample centre thingy but my post code isnt eligable!!! :(
I also wrote to heinz they just sent some brochures though - but among it was a heinz recipie book which wasnt too bad!
Fiona - vent as much as you like we all have them days. Cooper is pretty good around people, actually he LOVES being out and about with different people (gives him a rest from seeing my face every minute of the day lol :p ) I suppose if you just keep taking her out and putting her in different enviroments she will get use to it. I have also heard that around this age they prefer Mummy and daddy rather then strangers and other people...so it might just be a 4 month thing. Cooper has to have his needles in a couple of weeks, he was really good last time though it didnt affect him in the slightest..touch wood it doesnt affect him this time!
Im soooo tired today..my MIL works at the hospital and told me yday of a little baby dying of SIDS :( So i was up all night making sure cooper was ok, just me being an over protective mum!! Im still tired from my night out with the girls i can tell you i wont be doing that in a hurry again!! hangovers arent worth it especially now i have my little man!
anywho Coopers down for his morning nap so i better get going and do some stuff around the house..
Hi again,
you poor thing Fiona - that sounds stressful. How much does Claire weigh? I know that carrying my 7 kilo boy or rocking him for too long kills my back so I can only just imagine what your back must feel like after 3 and a half hours. Like Hayleylea said I have heard that around 4 months babies prefer their parents to other people and don't like to be held by anyone else and I don't know what you do about that. We haven't got to that stage yet (Paddy was born on the 29th of October so is still closer to 3 months than 4 months). Can Claire spend regular time with her grandparents or a close friend so she gets used to other people on a small scale? Paddy sees his grandparents and a couple of my friends regularly and seems to enjoy having other people chat to him at this stage.
Hope you get through the day Hayleylea - I tend to be a bit paranoid about the SIDS thing too and am always worried that I might have Paddy too hot in bed and always like to check he is breathing before I go to bed myself - I think we are all over protective Mums but that's not a bad thing.
Natalie I think you are right about getting Dean to try and settle Paddy a bit more so he doesn't get reminded of my milk so much (tried to get him to do it a couple of times last week but he would only try for 5 minutes and then come out and say it wasn't working - I think he needs to be more persistent).Bingo my concerns are the same ones that you had - that I will be the only one who can settle Paddy to bed which is not good. I am going out for dinner with some friends tomorrow night and I would love to come home to a baby fast asleep in his bed. We will see what happens (Dean will probably give up and have him up playing when I get home - I am going to have to let him know this is a last resort option only). Last night I did manage to get Paddy to sleep without having to feed him to do it. I fed him at 8:30 after his bath and had him asleep in bed at 9 but he was crying again after 10 minutes (picked him up and it was a big burp stuck in him poor little man). Then his nappy was wet so I changed that and then put him back in bed and turned the light off and he started crying but I put on this musical bear and the music seemed to distract him from crying and I knelt next to the cot and patted his chest while he whinged and squirmed. I put my finger in his mouth at one point and he sucked on that for a while then I took it out and he found his own hand and then sucked on his thumb instead while making crazy grunting noises and then he finally went still and quiet and I left the room with him still sucking his thumb and he went to sleep - woohoo - much better than having to get him up again to feed him to sleep. I might try the dummy again like you did Hayleylea - Paddy liked it in the early weeks but the went off it too. Maybe he will like it again now and it can replace my nipple as a soother which would be nice.
Anwyay better go and do a few things. Hope everyone is well.

Hi Cath - Claire weighed 6150g at her 3 month check. I know she's grown a fair bit since then so we'll find out how much exactly on Friday. I wouldn't be at all surprised if she was nearly 7 kilos.
My mum & dad live only a few minutes away so she has spent a lot of time with them. They babysit sometimes too. She is perfectly happy with them & I've never noticed a problem with anyone else before either. When we go out, we're constantly bailed up by middle-aged women goo-ing & gaa-ing over her (I'm sure every new mum faces this!!!) and she has always treated them to a great big beaming smile. She also does this every time we go through the supermarket checkout. I think maybe she got overwhelmed on Saturday because we were in an unsual place, it was hot and she also had so many people in her face. I hope that was all it was.
Hayleylea, I hope you managed to catch up on some sleep today!
I had no idea you could write away to places for freebies! You guys have the right idea! I love freebies!!!! I am terrible - I even buy magazines I don't normally read if they come with those freebie sample bags! lol And you should have seen me with my Bounty bags! I had no idea you got them when you are pregnant (I feel a bit naiive now!) I was like a kid in a candy store, as they say!
Gotta go soak the burp cloths while Little Miss is asleep (small dramas sleeping today - not as bad as last night, not as good as during the day yesterday... sigh!)
Catch up with you all again soon!
Hey there...just thought I'd pop into this section & say hi to all the other October mums out there. My little Katelyn was born on October 18th last year. Hi katelyns mum! Wow, what a cutey!!! And so tiny! Claire has always been a chubber with little sharpei rolls, but was so short when she was born - I haven't come across anyone yet with a full-term baby who was as short as Claire - 48cm. (Takes after her stumpy-legged dad!) lol :p

Claire went to sleep no problems, no crying at about 1/4 to 6 tonight & I thought is this too good to be true?? Yep! It was! 10 mins later she was screaming! I've been walking her around since then & have just put her in her cot. She was lying there happily sucking her thumb, but now she's "yelling". I call it yelling because she's not crying she's just, well.. yelling!
I'll go back in in a second. I hope it's not going to be another long night! DH isn't home from work yet - he's probably too scared to come home after last night! lol
Get a good night's sleep hayleylea!
Hi Katelyn's Mum,
what a great size baby you have. I wish that Maddi was that small when she was born. She was a whopper at 8 pound 14 and still is up there. She certainly doesn't take after me as I'm a shortie, probably her Dad. Was Katelyn full term?
I think that the 4 month growth spurt is a nasty one as Maddi is also wreaking havoc and wearing me out.
To all October Mums out there having fun getting their angels to sleep = You are definitely not alone there  Maddi has been fighting off the sleep fairy all afternoon and has literally just crashed in her bed. Thank God. I'm off to have a Bailey's and put my feet up. I'm out to dinner at a friends house on Thursday night with Maddi. Wish me luck as it's my first dinner with Maddi out and I'm prepared for the worst.
Fiona, I can just imagine the yelling as Maddi has discovered her squeal and loves to practice. They must be really enjoying experimenting with those vocal cords!

Good morning all. Hi Katelyn's Mum - yes your little girl was small - welcome to bubhub.
My son Connor was born 2.9 kg, but was 2.7kg when we left the hospital. But I am happy to say he is now 6.5kg at his 4 month weigh in. He is still rather short I was told - but I reminded the MHCN that my husband & I aren't exactly tall - so really there could be something in that.
But I was recommended at this visit to put a thickening agent in his bottle to help with his reflux. His reflux doesn't seem to be causing him pain, but the vomiting is getting a bit much. I can't go anywhere that I don't get covered in vomit. So we will see what happens.
We had a little trouble getting Connor off to bed last night though - which is quite unusal. Could be something to do with the warmer weather on the way? But he did sleep like an angel during the day though (not very common at all).
Good luck with the night out Bingo - I am quite sure all will go well. I am actually going out on Saturday arvo and leaving Connor with my DH & 2 step kids - I am just waiting for the phone call. But it will be good practice, because i am going back to netball during the week on a Tues. evening - I am too hoping to come home with Connor asleep in his cot (not sure whether this will be the case though).
Anyway must go - we have our mother's group meeting this morning. Has anyone else been to a mother's group? How did they find theirs? Mine isn't too bad - but some mother's love talking about how great their child is - as if their child is better than everyone else's - but I suppose you will get that everywhere.

well cooper woke at 2.30 last night for a feed  He hasnt woke up in the night for so long i cant remember when! Its all good though he just fed and went straight back to sleep and slept in till 7.30 so that was ok. I think he is going through a growth spurt!
When i stayed at my mums for a couple of days and went out cooper was good as gold, he went straight down for her and slept all night, he is good like that....I have come home to cooper screaming for daddy though! My mum has had 4 kids though so she has had plenty of practise! ;) I hope all your night outs turn out good and your little darlings be good for their daddys :p
Havent been to a mothers group yet! starts up this month though...bingo like you said some mothers make out they have the perfect child - you do get that everywhere. Cooper is a great baby but ill be the first to say he definatly has his moments lol
Hi everyone and welcome Katelyn's Mum,
I just love the tiny little babies (my friend had a little baby who has only got to Paddy's birth weight of 4.1kg at 7 weeks old which is hilarious really - Paddy is a boofa). I was told at his 3 month check up last week that he is in the 90th percentile for height and weight which is just bizarre (Dean and I aren't all that tall but we are both a bit overweight so we are certainly not tiny - not that we were always overweight- we used to be "normal"- our last 6 years of lots of beer drinking together has made us fat - I lost weight at the start of pregnancy because of the shock to my system of no beer - the weight loss has stopped unfortunately).
Cooper sounds like such a good boy with his sleep Hayleylea and that is such a bonus with bottle feeding that your partner can do the early feed - I wish Dean could breastfeed sometimes. He will be doing the last feed with expressed milk while I am out for dinner with some friends tonight so at least I get a bit of a break which is nice. It's weird when they wake up in the middle of the night all of a sudden after not doing it for ages. Paddy has mostly slept through from about 8 weeks but woke me up at 2:20am Monday morning (think a big poo he did woke him up) so I had to get up and feed him and get him back to sleep - made me appreciate the nights I am not up doing this (slept through again last night thank goodness).
That's funny about the yelling Fiona. Paddy does that and sometimes it sounds like he is yelling "hey!!". Hope your night was okay.
Hope the dinner goes well tomorrow night Bingo. It can be stressful anticipating the dramas if they play up. We have gone down to the local pub for dinnner with Paddy the last 2 Friday nights and the first time was a great success (in and out in an hour and no tears or tantrums) but the second time was a little more stressful (still not too bad though) - it was really busy so the meals took longer and he stated to get grumpy after an hour and I had to get my boob out which I really wanted to avoid but it had to be done - was so busy and noisy that noone really noticed I think anyway and even though Dean and I had to take it in turns to eat at least we got out of the house.
How was mother's group Natalie? I had my first one last week and it was pretty good - there were about 12 mother's and we just divided into little groups and chatted really (the nurse tried to get us to talk about our hobbies but we ended up comparing birth stories and talking about breastfeeding dramas). I'm sure over time there will be mothers who annoy me but at this point it all seems okay. The weird thing in my mothers group is that are only 2 baby girls and the rest are all boys and 2 of my friends have said their mother's groups are mostly boys too - poor Paddy is going to have to compete to find a girlfriend when he is older.
Anyway I can here Paddy waking up from a nap so better go (got him to sleep without breastfeeding again - woohoo - can't be too proud though - carried him in asleep from the car and put him in his cot and he stayed asleep - not really an achievement). He breastfed to sleep again last night - still working on that one (or Dean will be tonight anyway).Talk soon.

Claire is a chucker too! I have a friend in Sydney who has a 6m old & her bub is the same. "Happy Chuckers" they call it!! It's not like a painful reflux, they just spit up a lot & it doesn't seem to cause them any real discomfort. Claire goes through stages of being quite bad & then sometimes hardly anything at all for days. There have been times where she'll have a big bottle & the whole thing will just come straight back up! The number of times I have had to change every single thing I've been wearing right down to bra & knickers!! Ugh!
My friend was saying that she tried the thickened formula on the advice of a CHN & it made her baby constipated. When she spoke to another nurse she told her that the thickened formula should only be used for babies with bad reflux. Then yet another nurse told her that was rubbish! I wish they could all agree on things sometimes! It'd be much easier! Let me know how you go if you end up trying it. Are you going to use a thickening agent or thickened formula? I haven't heard of adding a thickening agent before. Do you get it from a chemist?
I was looking for a mother's group around where I live & never really came across anything promising, so I posted a thread on bubhub & got quite a few responses, so we're going to organise something. Then I was out shopping today & I ran into one of the girls from my antenatal group & she said they'd just started a mothers group up. Unfortunately Claire was starting to get grumpy so I was a little pre-occupied & wanting to get going so I didn't think to ask her the details. I really wish I had!!
Wow Cath! Paddy sounds pretty healthy! 90th percentile is good! When Claire was born she was in the 85th for weight & 25th for length!! At her 3m check she was in the 75th for weight & 55th for length (maybe starting to be more like mum than dad now??!) Funny you should say about all the babies being boys! The girl I ran into today said all the mums in her group had girls! There were only 2 boys! And out of the 12 couples in our antenatal group, she said she only knew of one couple that ended up with a boy!! I hope you have a great night out tonight!
We're having my mum & dad over for dinner tonight. Today's my 30th b'day.
Hayleylea, there must have been something in the air last night!! Claire woke at about 1.30am (and I am in QLD, so it would have been 2.30 down south!!) which is really unusual for her. Also, she was actually crying - normally when she wakes up she just yells - she never cries on waking up. When I went in there she was more asleep than awake. I changed her & gave her a cuddle & by the time DH came in with her bottle, she took 2 sips & was out like a light again. I wonder if babies can have nightmares? She's done the same thing once before. I definitely think they are going through a growth spurt.
Gotta go clear some stuff up for tonight so the house doesn't look like a cyclone's hit it. Claire has just finally gone down (much later than I'd have liked, now she'll probably wake up at the same time she's normally starting to want to go to sleep for the night. Oh well!) I'd been sitting here typing one-handed for a while there! (It's taken me about an hour to type this between walking her around & finally putting her in her cot!)
Have a great night all!

Happy birthday fiona!! Hope you have a good night. Cooper was down in bed before 7.30 tonight, he was talking away in there for ages - i thought for sure he would start screaming any second once he had his play but then everything went quiet and i walked in and he was sound asleep! They are so cute when they do that - it makes you so happy doesnt it!?
Hopefully he sleeps all night tonight ;) if not its ok...after all a little boy has to grow :p
We have been at our out of town house renovating today and cooper was a good boy, got a bit grizzly here and there but wasnt too bad at all.
Anywho im off for an early night incase my little man decides to wake up tonight. Take care all and once again happy birthday fiona!
:D
Hope that you have a great day and get spoilt like all Mums deserve to be on their birthdays.
Hi All
Just a quick read of the post, and just wanyed to pop in and say hi to all you october mums.
DS was born on the 1st Oct last year. After 28 hours of labour and an emergency c/s we finally got ot hold our beautiful baby boy.
BJ is now 4 1/2 months and is staring to roll. He has worked out that when he wakes up he can turn himself over (he is a tummy sleeper), and when he does starts lauging his little head off. I love waking to it in the moring. He is fianlly sleeping through. he goes down at 6.00pm, I pick him up and feed him at 9pm (he usally doesn't wake) and then he wakes between 4.45 and 5.30 in the morning.
I have just returned to full time work, and am really enjoying it. it has made the time i spend with BJ even more special.
Would Love to chat longer but need to clean the kitchen.
Look forward to chatting with you all

hi belinda and welcome to our thread :D He is certainly a little cutie..
sounds like you had a tough labour...mine was 36 hours  I got induced after 30 hours of contractions not going anywhere and then had him naturally in 6 hours. Its funny how much you forget that once you hold them in your arms!
Cooper slept all night again....went to bed at 7.30 and woke up at 6.30 YAY good little boy! He is back in bed now having a nap.
My fish died today...2. Im such a sook when it comes to my animals! I noticed they had a white fungy thing on them yesterday so went to the pet shop to get them some medicine but they didnt make it throught the night. I have had them for 2 years! :( The pet shop owner said they have heaps of sick fish with the same thing and heaps of people have been in asking about the same thing - thinsk its something to do with the weather. Poor little things. Also on the animal front i have a naughty 4 month old rotweiler! Too cute but Too naughty and today my cockerspaniel is getting his vaccination needles (how expensive is that!!) God you guys must think i live in a Zoo lol.
anywho hope all is good with you guys
Welcome Belinda! Great to hear from you and glad you've joined our thread. Hayleylea sorry to hear about your fish. I love having fish but gave up a few years ago as they kept dying on me, maybe now I have more time at home I should get back into it. We have a large Kelpie cross called Sam, he's a real sook and loves cuddles. Although since Maddi arrived he hasn't been getting many from me :( . I'm actually a virologist that makes dog and cat vaccines so yeah I know what you mean about the cost of vaccinations. But once you see a sick animal that hasn't been vaccinated you don't mind forking out the money so much.
Well I lashed out and bought a new bumbo off the seller on ebay. I gave up trying to find a cheap second hand one. It seems everyone is after one. They sell for about $60 on ebay second hand so I paid the extra $19 and got a new one. Can't wait to get it and try Maddi in it. She must have the best stomach muscles because she's constantly trying to do sit ups. We had a great night of sleep last night. Maddi went down at 8.30pm and slept until 5am, gave her a feed and she went to sleep until 9.30am. Oh such bliss!
BTW Belinda I love the name Bailey! When I was pregnant with Maddi I really missed my Baileys so thought if I had a boy..............................he might also be called Bailey.

Hi! Hi! Hi!
Thanks all for the b'day wishes. I had a really great day. DH gave me a carved figurine of a mother holding her baby - so sweet! I loved it! My dad kept calling me middle aged! Silly old bugger! lol!
It's good to hear everyone's bubs sleeping well. I've been trying something new with Claire the past couple of days/nights (after our traumatic night a few days ago!) and it seems to be working well. I have been putting her into her cot with her dummy in & her mobile on as soon as she starts to get really tired. I will wait there with her for a while & then go out. When she starts to fuss, I go back in. It takes a few goes, but each time I go in there she is more & more asleep. I have only been picking her up if she is starting to get really upset (which is only on the first trip back in, if at all), otherwise I just pat her, stroke her face, put her dummy back in - whatever she needs. So much better than walking her around for hours! My back is practically dancing with glee!!!
I love hearing about everyone's pets, although I was sorry to hear about your fish hayleylea. :( We have a sooky, big friendly yellow lab named Rusty. He is about 8 years old and just the most gentle, lovely dog you could ever hope to meet! He & Claire have met, but as he is an outside dog, they don't spend a lot of time together just yet. They actually aren't all that interested in each other at the moment! Rusty just adores kids & he is so gentle with them. With adults he will jump around & play rough, but he seems to know not to do that with kids. And the smaller they are, the more gentle he is.
Ooh! I just had a knock at the door - Claire's birth certificate has arrived! How exciting!! (Geez! It took long enough!)
Hey bingo, tell me how you go with the bumbo seat. I would so love to get one but I think my DH will divorce me if I buy any more expensive things for Claire! I am in negotiations at the moment to buy a jolly jumper & stand off eBay, but it's up to about $65+ and still has a couple of days to go. I know this is cheap, but DH keeps insisting we don't need it. Blah, blah blah! I'm trying to explain to him we need one with a stand because our house has hardly any door frames. BTW, when you say Maddie is doing situps, I think Claire is trying to do the same thing. Does Maddie curl herself up like she's trying to sit up? Claire keeps doing this when she's in her bouncer.
Belinda, isn't it just the best thing in the world to wake up in the morning to the sound of your baby laughing! The way you described it sounds so gorgeous!! I was just thinking this morning about what I'm going to do when the time to make a decision about returning to work rocks around. Some days I think I will go back (part-time, I won't go back full time as I live 2 hours away from where I work & I don't want to spend that time away from Claire 5 days a week), and other times I think there's no way I want to/could go back. I'm not looking forward to making the decision! I'm glad you are enjoying it though, that's great!
Better go, I think Claire has had enough of her morning nap now....

Thanks everyone about my fish. I suppose thats life! Took Axel (my golden cockerspaniel) to the vet to get his vaccinations and he wasnt impressed! lol He loves people but he didnt like the vet one bit today...poor little man. He was the absolute baby before cooper came along and i havent had much time with him of late but now we are doing with axel aswell as cooper so he is getting much happier :D Cooper just loves Axel - he is already trying to grab at axels big floppy ears! Axel is a placid dog though there is no way he will bite...but you still have to be carefull with kids and animals - you hear so many times on the news that a family dog mauls their kid..that would just be horrible!
anyway i better be off cooper is due for a feed - daddy has him down the street at the moment but they should be home any second!
LOL, well now you have Katelyn was only 44.5cm long. And when I was born I was apparently only 43.5cm!
Hi Katelyn's Mum,
what a great size baby you have. I wish that Maddi was that small when she was born. She was a whopper at 8 pound 14 and still is up there. She certainly doesn't take after me as I'm a shortie, probably her Dad. Was Katelyn full term?
Yeah, she was born at 39 weeks & 1 day. But because I had pre-eclampsia she wasn't getting much bigger in the last few weeks. I just weighed her yesterday & the parents group & she was 4610g with clothes on...I she's be at least 4.5kg withougt her clothes...which I think is about 10lbs. I know of some people who've delivered 10lb babies....I can't imagine delivering a baby as big as Katelyn is now!

Welcome Belinda and happy birthday for yesterday Fiona (30 is the new 20 - hardly middle aged!!).
Sorry to hear about your fish Hayleylea.
It's funny so many of us have dogs. We have 2 - a staffy named Ollie and a staffy/kelpie named Ruby. Paddy has really started to notice the dogs in the last couple of weeks and watches them as they wander around the house (they are very spoilt inside dogs half of the time). Poor old Ollie used to be my baby but he has been replaced which I was a bit worried about but he is coping very well and seems very concerned if Paddy is upset and always wants to be near him. I am very careful about them getting too close and would never leave them alone. I think it's nice for Paddy to grow up wioth dogs - he has never been bothered by their barking and just seems calmly interested in them.
Good work with the change in Claire's sleep routine Fiona - much better for the back. I really have to start trying stuff like that with Paddy more regularly - I keep getting lazy and pretty much feeding him to sleep becuase it is the quickest way to do it. I was worried that Dean wouldn't be able to get Paddy to bed last night while I was out but he had him down for the night at 8:45 and he didn't wake up until 6:45 this morning (mind you he still fed to sleep but it was on the bottle rather than me - nice to know I can escape now and then though).
Better go - Paddy has woken up from a small nap (can't remember the last day nap that went for more than 40 minutes).

Hi everyone
My name is Michele and I am completly new to this website. Well i shouldnt really say completly new as I have been sticky beeking at everyone elses posts and decided that it was time for me to post my own.
I have a beautiful DD Mackenzie who was born on the 1st October in Brisbane. I was going through all of her pictures from birth to now trying to pick a picture to add to my profile and i am amazed at how quick she has grown.
Shes awake now so I better go and attend to her. Bath time and off to the inlaws for dinner.
I look forward to speaking with you all.

Welcome Michelle!! Glad for you to join us! Gee we have alot of new comers this past week its been GREAT!!!!!! Like you michelle i was looking through coopers photos and i cant believe how small he was. When i was shopping today i seen a TINY little baby and i couldnt believe that cooper was actually that small! time goes soooooo quick.
I think its important that cooper grows up around dogs...i have never been without one and i could never imagine being without one either! we are moving out of town by the end of the year (currently renovating) the house we have out there has 10 acres so god knows how many dogs and other animals i will have LOL. Im an animal lover through and through. Cath my dog is an inside dog too...VERY SPOILT!
Bingo i think im going to invest in one of those bumbo seats aswell...new too as by the time you get them off ebay and with postage its just as good to get a new one!
Anyway cooper is fighting his arvo nap so i better go tend to him
I have a beautiful DD Mackenzie who was born on the 1st October in Brisbane. I look forward to speaking with you all.
BJ was born the same day at 11.04am. What hopsital were you in?????????
We too have two dogs. Two mini foxies. Maverick and Zac. Bj loves to watch them as the walk around the house. He keeps smiling at them, and I swear he is think "If only I could grab hold of it". I keep telling them (Mav and Zac) to watch out the minute Bj is able to move he will be straight after you. They just look at me as if to say, what are you going on about mum .
Bj has even started rollin gover in his sleep today. Mum heard him stiring and went in to check on him and here he is on his back. It is amazing how qicuk theny lern things, and once they learn it they use the new skill everyday.
posted by fiona was just thinking this morning about what I'm going to do when the time to make a decision about returning to work rocks around.
Returning to work hasn't been to bad. I am a special education teacher, and work 20 mins away from home. Mum is looking after BJ at our place which I think has helped him as the only thing that has changed for him is that mummy isn't here for a little while. He is still getting B/M for most of his feeds while I am at work, but I am finding it a bit hard with trying to fit in the expressing at work. I love my job, and I have a great support network in good friends at work, so this helped make my decision a little bit easier to.
Well better go and check dinner.
Take Care

I can't believe it!! I am so excited I just have to tell someone! Claire had her bottle tonight & fell sound asleep with it in her mouth - at 5.30!!! I kept thinking she was going to wake up any second, but I just went & checked on her & she is still sound asleep - hasn't budged! It's now 6.30 here. Phew!
I'm livin' it up while I can, she has her shots tomorrow morning so I think by tomorrow any sleep routines will be out the window. I hope not, but last time she was knocked around by them pretty bad. :( Poor baby!
More on the doggie thing - we are on 1 acre & will be getting a new friend for Rusty next week. My DH has a few greyhounds & one of them (the best one of course!) has just recovered from an injury that will prevent her from ever racing again. She is now going to live with us & my DH is going to breed from her (uh, not with Rusty! Greyhound/lab cross!! lol can you imagine?!) So soon we will have lots of little pups! Greyhound pups are so cute when they're born, have you ever seen a really young one? I think it's important for kids to grow up with pets too. I think they learn so much & pets can teach them to appreciate animals. I also love taking Claire out into the yard as the sun is going down to watch all the birds. She loves watching them! We get hundreds flying around our place at that time of night & she is just mesmerised by the sight & the sound of them. I always talk to her about them & tell her what they're doing & point out the baby magpies & tell her how their mum's look after them. DH thinks I'm a nutter!
Hi Michele! Nice to hear from you! I'm looking forward to seeing some pics of Mackenzie!
Hey Belinda, is BJ rolling front to back & back to front also? Claire rolled front to back a couple of times & is oh-so-nearly rolling back to front. She is funny to watch! Every chance she gets now (I have to watch her very carefully in the bath & on the change table!) she arches her back right over. She ends up with just her feet, shoulder & the top of her head touching the ground! It looks so odd! I bet she'll roll over completely any day now.
I never noticed how much Claire had grown until about a week or two ago. It was like one day I just looked at her & thought "whoa!!" I'll be interested to see how much she's grown tomorrow at the Dr's.
Is anyone else having needles again soon?
hayleylea
09-02-2006, 18:59
yep we have needles next friday! fortunatley last lot of needles cooper was fine....fingers crossed its the same this time! I try and get them done in the morning so he i feeling a bit better by the night...im not sure if that helps or not though!
Thats good about claire fiona :) Cooper is sound asleep today too....he usually goes down at around 5 for an hour then up again and back to bed for the night at around 7.30 but tonight there was no getting him to have a nap in the arvo so we have been trying to keep him occupied. he had his last feed at 6.30 and was in bed by 7.15 so id say he is down for the night...here's hoping!
Little puppies are just georgeous arent they! I bred my cockerspaniel with my sisters cocker around 2 years ago and unforutunatley the mother got bit by a snake and died when the puppies were 2 weeks old. My sis was pregnant at the time so i took them back to my house and played mum to 4 little puppies! You think being a mum to a little baby is hard lol! I was up every hour feeding them, i had to set the alarm so i could get up to them, i had to clean them every day with a wet cloth (mimicking the way the mum would lick them) Had to wean them off milk onto food...it was sooooo rewarding though. Although when it come to 8 weeks i didnt want to let them go! I was so attached to them and they were so attached to me...i cried each time one went off to a new home. I still keep in touch with most of the owners though and my mum took one of the pups so its good to see them grow up! (im such a sook!)
Anyway im off to have a shower.
Haylelea and anyone else looking at a bumbo I have just found out that you can buy them at Toys R Us fo $63! Pity I didnt know that before I paid $79!
MrsMiggins
09-02-2006, 20:53
What? Are you kidding?! Sixty-three bucks - I'm there!!! I dunno if we have a Toys R Us nearby, but I'm gunna find one! Ah, don't worry. It could have been worse - one I was bidding on a while back went for $89.50!!!
Oh, and I didn't end up getting my jolly jumper - thing went for over $80. I thought I may as well just spend the extra 30 & get a brand new one.
(PS - The fiery red-head is still sound asleep!! Oh joy!!! :D )

Hi all,
Geez I have been out most of the day - I have missed out on all the goss!!!
Welcome to - Belinda and Michele.
Our little thread has certainly grown. I thought there would have been more bubbies born in October last year.
Time has gone quickly for sure. A friend of mine's daughter just turned 1, and I thought her 12 months went rather slowly. But with Connor I can't believe he is 4.5 months/19 weeks. As much as I am looking forward to Connor experience so much as he gets older - I can understand how attached you get to them being a baby. I can't wait to have another.
I can't believe Anna is looking towards a 4th already!!!!!
Hayleylea we have a couple of goldfish - they are actually doing ok - even though their tank reached 30 degrees during the hot weather. They were originally in a pond outside - but the neighbours cat tried to get to them. We also have a lovebird - and she is quite good - except for the 4:00am squwaks - it has taken Connor a little while to get used to that - actually the bird is now a pain in the rear end - keeps waking him up during the day.
Those Bumbo seats look really good - Bingo - I had no idea what you were talking about - but I have now found them on the web. It maybe something we consider I think.
Fiona - we have started on the thickening agent - it is added to formula - so we haven't bought the thickened formula itself. But if it works - we may just swap to the thickened formula - its too expensive to just buy separately. I have started to add it to every 2nd to 3rd bottle - in case it does mess with his bowels - and then I will bring it forward to every bottle - but I have noticed a difference. He stills vomits a little - but nowhere near as much. But he hasn't gone yet in 36 hours (this is unusual, sometimes he may miss a day or 2), he went to bed tonight though fluffing - so I don't think we will have a problem (fingers crossed).
With Connor's injections - he was already crying before the DR gave them too him, so I don't think it really mattered - but he stopped soon after it. But he was rather grumpy the next day.
Good luck with everyone else's bubs and there needles!!!

Hello
Thanks for welcoming me it was great to read your replies.
Belinda i had Mackenzie in the RBWH at 5.14am what about you?
Fiona Mackenzie had her needles last Tuesday. I gave her panadol before she had them and after and she was fine. That night she slept from 7.30pm until 7.30am which I was pretty happy with.
I fully recommend the Bumbo seat I got one last week and it is a life saver. She sits up at the dinner table with us while we eat dinner - they just feel that they are a part of things.
We're having our first night without Mackenzie on Saturday. She is staying with the inlaws while we go to a 30th on the Gold Coast. They're really good with her so I'm sure she will be fine.
We have a little problem at the moment with Mackenzie and her cot. she moves around that much in the night that she get her arms and legs caught in the railings of her cot and wakes herself up. Does anyone elses baby do this or can anyone suggest a way that I can stop it happening? A few people have said to use the bumpers but i have heard that they shouldnt be used because of the chance of suffocation.
How do I attached a picture of her?

Hi Michele!
I have just given Claire a dose of Panadol except now I've had to bump her appointment back as she's still asleep! Only problem is that the only appointment they had left was 45 mins later so unfortunately I'm going to have to go wake her up shortly which I really, really did not want to have to do!
Claire normally sleeps in a snuggle bed inside her cot, but the other day I had to wash the cover & it wasn't dry by bedtime, so I just had to put her straight in the cot itself. She was fine except that she'd rolled around so much that when I went in in the morning, she was lying horizontally across the bed with her legs through the rails! I just ended up putting the snuggle bed back in. I don't really have any suggestions other than getting yourself a snuggle bed, but Claire will have grown out of hers shortly, so it's not going to be a long-term solution. Sorry I can't be more help! I too don't want to put in cot bumpers.
To attach a pic, go to user control panel and then edit avatar. You can then add a pic from your own files.
Have fun on your night out & try not to worry about her too much! ;)
oh I think I can offer some help with the railing situation, I read about this just recently. Yes your not supposed to put bumpers in the cot according to SIDS recommendations but you can buy a mesh cot bumper (kinda like a flyscreen I guess) so that they can't get their legs or arms through the railings. I really liked the idea of that. At the moment Maddi doesn't move around much so I haven't looked into it any further than hearing about it.
I think Maddi is really teething as she has had the runs for the past 12 hours and apparantly that is a sign of teething. Damn it my boobies are not going to like that news.

That mesh cot bumper does sound like a great idea, doesn't it?! I wonder where you can get them from?? I'll try & do a search on the ever-bountiful eBay & I'll let you all know if I find anything. No idea what I'll search under......
I hadn't heard of runny BM being a sign of teething - interesting! Being bottle-fed, Claire's BM are usually pretty thick, so I wonder if it would have the same effect on a bottle-fed bubba? Claire has been chewing & dribbling like mad for weeks now. I still wonder if she'll cut a tooth early. No sign of any breaking through just yet.

My baby Grace is doing well i have just started getting her into a routine she wasnt a very good day sleeper, would only sleep in my arms when i rocked her... which was driving me insane!!! after a week of a lot of crying she puts her self to sleep most of the time in her bassenete which makes it so much eaiser!
Bubs hates tummy time... she gets so frustrated.Wot age do they usualy start rolling over?
Just wondering wot companies have u guys gotten samples from?
I think the bumbo seats look great but i recently brought grace an indoor swing thing... i dunno wot they are called... but that keeps her entertained... well she is awake now gtg...

Nah, nothing on eBay. I tried all sorts of different searches. Mind you, plenty of people must be happy to use bumpers - there's heaps listed & most have several bids! bingo, if you hear of where you can get these mesh things from, I'd be very interested to know.
Hi beetlgrl! I am no-where near you now, but I did used to live in Penrith! Your sleep issues sound all too familiar to me! You should have a read of another thread I posted in the sleeping/settling issues forum. I called it Sleep Fighter/Hysterical Screamer. It is indeed a good-news story!! Claire is not real big on tummy time either. She will do it for a very short period of time, but she gets frustrated with it pretty quickly. Claire will be 4 months old tomorrow & she rolled over once before Xmas (tummy to back) & has now done it a few times since. She is also trying her hardest to roll back to tummy. She's nearly there! I think rolling is one of those things that varies greatly from baby to baby.
Poor baby Claire! We managed to get down to the Dr's in time, even though I had to wake her up to take her. She was all giggles & smiles at everyone in the Dr's office and so it broke my heart to see her screaming when she got the needles! Don't you just feel like the most horrible person on the planet?! She has been OK so far. She's had a big sleep - went down at about 1.30-ish & is still asleep now at nearly 4pm. I hope she doesn't feel as rotten as she did last time. I figured because it was the same round of shots that she would have the same reaction, but the nurse said she may be a lot better this time round because her system now knows what to expect. I sure hope so!!! She was smiling again before she went to sleep, so I'm remaining positive. It did take a few hours to catch up on her last time though.

WELCOME BEETLGRL!! Unfortunatley i am no where near you either im from Bathurst NSW! I find it hard finding anyone on here remotely near me! anyway its nice of you to join the thread! The more the merrier! Your little girl is just gorgeous!
cooper also HATES tummy time, i try him every day but he gets cranky and just cries....he hasnt started rolling over yet, he gets very close but cant get over his arm, he will do it in time though. Most people i knows babies always roll from belly to back first but like i said cooper hates tummy time so i dont think thats going to happen, i keep perservering though.
Fiona i hope clair is good for you tonight and not too miserable after her needles! Fingers crossed for you!
I have got samples from happy baby , nuk and advent and also some nappy company...ummm bambo nature, they sent me 2 disposable nappies. I wrote to heinz and they just sent me a whole heap of brochures, however in it was a baby recipie book which was good.

Hi Girls
Thanks for looking into the bumper situation - I will see what I can find and let you know.
Fiona I'm glad Claire seems to be ok. I gather they cant be too bad if they have a big sleep afterwards. I made my mum come to the doctors with me as I hate needles myself let alone watching them give them to Mackenzie. I just made sure I was there to give her a big cuddle afterwards.
Welcome Janna I'm only new to this site as well. I dont live anywhere near you, I live in Brisbane.
Mackenzie has only just started to like tummy time - I suppose she has no choice considering she keeps rolling. I took her to pilates with me today and she was great. She managed to amuse herself for 1 hour which doesnt happen very often.
Anyway better get my a** into gear as we have people coming over for dinner tonight. This website is a tad addictive :p

That bumper looks like it would be ideal!!! Thanks for that hayleylea! If I can't pick one up here, I have a couple of friends in the states who may be able to do something for me....?
Michele, let me know if you see any around. (And yeah, I think I am also addicted to this website!! lol)
Well just after I posted last, Claire woke up & was all smiling & happy. I changed her nappy and then picked her up off the change table & she just started howling! Poor thing!! :( I gave her another dose of panadol (actually I give her the Dymadon one - the chemist suggested it last time because she said it's not supposed to be as bitter, but Claire doesn't really enjoy it still anyway!) and about 10mins later she was feeling a bit better. I just lay with her on my bed and gave her a bottle, played some games, sang some songs (she LOVES "Rock-a-bye Your Bear" from the Wiggles! Every time I start to sing it, she recognises it & just beams the biggest smile you ever did see! I think she likes all the actions. Worked a treat this time too, thank god!) read her a couple of books and she was good as gold for about an hour and a half. Then she started to get upset again and I thought she was looking a bit tired, so I gave her another bottle (she only had a couple of sips) and she dropped quietly off to sleep! Hopefully she'll be OK in the morning. Last time it took pretty much bang-on 48 hours til she was her old self again, but this time she doesn't seem as bad. No fever either (touch wood!)

i think there is one of them bumpers on american ebay if you shop on there too? but you might be able to pick one up in OZ or even on an online store overseas. It would help having people overseas as you wont get ripped off on postage.
Anyway im off to bed. Have my nephews 4th bday party tommorrow....just finished making his "pin the smile on Thomas the tank engine" hehe a take off of pin the tail on the donkey...he is a THOMAS FAN THRU AND THRU! it looks awesome - im very proud of it. He will love it its a huge thomas made out of cardboard..i really think i should go into business making them ;)
goodnight all.

Well done hayleylea! The Thomas stuff sounds very cool!
I have twin nephews who'll be 4 in April! They are a bit of a handful! Unfortunately I don't get to see them as often as I'd like as they live in Canberra.
Hi everyone
Mack's Mum - I had Bj at the mater mother's private, and would never go back there again. I had the worst experience with midwifes on the ward. If and when we have another bub we hope to go to North Weat. Fungers corssed.
Fiona - Bj rolls from tummy to back constantly. He is yet to go from back to tummy, but I think that is supposed to harder than tummy to back. he is doing the same thing as clare witht he feet and the shoulders. We had phtos taken this morning and he rolled over (daddy saw him roll for the first time) and hit his head on the box they had him on. i hope it hasn't scared him off rolling.
I would love get one of those breathable cot bumper to. BJ is still sleeping in his cradle on a tetra matteress. We tried him in his cot and week or so ago, but he justed moved to much, and would wake beacause him arms or legs were stuck or he had hit his head. If someone finds them let me know. We had bought a snuggle bed for him, but I got concerned that beacuse he was a tummy sleeper, witht he side of the suggle bed he would get hot and get to stuffy.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Hi guys....have any of you guys had or are organising a christening or naming day? We are not religous at all so we are opting for a naming day....just wanted to know everyone elses thoughts. I figure when he is older if he wants to join some sort of religion then he can do that on his on accord...my MIL isnt so sure she thinks he should be christened regardless  He wouldnt be catholic as neither DF or I are but we have a catholic priest as a family friend and even he said that if we have no intention on of going to church or arent religion then not to get him done that its not "magic" and a naming day is just as good...so i think we will definatly go with the naming day. I had looked into getting a celebrant but i have looked at a few threads on this site and alot of people just get a family friend to do it as they cant justify the $250 which i totally agree with. So i might do that and make up our own little certificate etc and we are going to plant a tree for him aswell.....we have a house out of town (where we will be moving too hopefully by the end of the year) its on 10 acres so i was going to buy an established native tree and get a plaque made up for it to commemorate the day..i think that would be kind of special. Anyway i just want to hear your thoughts :D
Hayleylea
We had BJ baptised/chirstened just last weekend. Niether Lee or I are particully religious, but it was something I felt strongly about. Not quite sure why, but I was baptised so that may of had something to do with it. He was chirtenined into to the anglian church, as that is what I was baptised into to.

nearly 4 months he was born on october 17th so he is a bit of a late one to do it i think? oh well its still exciting :D
Hi guys, my god you go away for a couple of days and you miss so much here! I'm so addicted to this that its the first thing i look at when I can get on a computer. Maddi is so sick, i thought she had the runs from teething but it turns out she has a tummy bug. Basically everytime I feed her she does a runny poo. I took her to the doctor and he said if its not gone in 5 days then they will need to do further tests. Tommorow is day 5! My poor baby. Other than having lots of poo's shes happy enough and isn't too grissly.
Maddi still doesn't roll over in any direction. She used to roll from her tummy to her back but all of a sudden she stopped. I figure the longer she doesn't crawl the better, that way I don't have to run after her.
How did you guys go with that mesh bumper?
Good to hear from some new members:D :D

hi there, im an october mum too with my lil girl born on the 3rd. she is beautiful!!!:)
she is rolling over now and doing a skydiver impression where all her limbs are off the floor when she is on her tummy. she gets her legs up under her so her bum is in the air but she isnt going anywhere yet (phew!!) when we are holding her over our shoulder she pushes with her legs like she is trying to stand up. is anyone else finding that their bub is fascinated with everything they eat/ drink? Zara snatched my jam sandwich the other day and tried to stuff it in her mouth! i nearly had a fit! she comes off the breast to watch me drink water from the sports type bottle. cheeky girl!:D she sleeps well through the night and wakes up at about 0500 for a feed and a play. i have noticed though that she has this yukky red patch behind her ear that comes and goes but it gets all red and weepy and smells gross. she also gets red, scaley eyelids around where the lashes are. has anyone else seen this  and what worked to clear it up?

How exciting hayleylea! Love milestones!!!! I think actually 4m is the earlier side of "normal". I thought they started rolling back to tummy "normally" around 4-5m. Claire keeps looking like she's trying to do it, but isn't really getting anywhere just yet!
bingo, I totally know what you mean! I went to Bris for a baby shower today & I kept thinking how there is going to be so much to catch up on when I get home! OMG! I am such a loser!! lol :D I hope maddy is feeling better soon! At least she doesn't seem to be getting too much discomfort from it, that's a plus. I haven't had a chance to look more into that mesh bumper thing, but I definitely will.
Hi mumoffour! Claire is obsessed with watching me eat breakfast! It's like it is the most fascinating thing in the world to watch me eat a bowl of cornflakes (I can assure you it's not!) Also, drinking water out of a bottle has her mesmorised! They reckon when they start showing interest in food, then they could be ready to start solids soon! Aaawwww! Our little babies are growing up!! I am not even thinking about starting Claire on solids til 6m! I saw a tiny little bub today & I thought, OMG! Claire used to be that size! When did she get so big?! You were saying about that scaly skin thing - yep! Claire has that at the top of one ear where it joins the side of her head. Actually, she has it on both, but one ear is a lot worse than the other. She also gets a red rash behind one knee that flares up all the time (only ever on the one leg - the other's fine) and constantly has a red, lumpy rash under her chin, around her neck from where she spills milk/spits up/sweats. Sounds gross - sorry! I try to keep it clean, but it's really hard because she doesn't have much neck right now! Her head pretty much sits atop her shoulders! She also isn't real happy with me wiping cloths/baby wipes etc around there. I haven't done anything about the scaly skin thing though. Just wipe it gently with a cloth when she's in the bath.
Time for me to go sleeps now!:p Catch you all tomorrow!

I suppose there is no "norm" when it comes to rolling over, that sounded a bit silly, its just my MIL is always wanting him to do more stuff and asking me when he is going to do it etc....she doesnt like the baby stage much she cant wait till his about 7 months..i keep telling her not to wish him grown up so quick cause its going quick enough already.
Nobody replied about the naming day christening thing i asked about? No one interested?
Anywho i better get going...daddy is feeding cooper at the moment but its nearly play time :D

I wouldnt worry about what your MIL. All babies do things at different stages I wouldnt wish their life away.
I went to a naming day on Australia Day. One of their close friends conducted the ceremony. They panted a tree in their back yard as well. It was really nice. I'm going to get Mackenzie christened but that's only because we're both catholic (not that we go to church or anything) and MIL & FIL are VERY catholic. If I wasnt getting her christened I definatly have a naming day.
Hi Mumoffour my baby is also very interested in what goes in my mouth. We let her suck on a grapes the other day and she loved it. I agree with Fioan I'm not going to start her on solids until 6 months - really it just makes more work for us.

Hi ladies,
Welcome to all the newcomers that I haven't welcomed yet - its getting quite full and I don't want to forget anyone.
Connor is rolling really well onto his back - but hasn't quite got the gist of the other way - and he is 4.5 months already. But he has nearly got to the stage of sitting upright. Yesterday hubby had him on the floor in a nudie, and he was getting up on his knees and moving backwards. Then flattened out again and moved around in a complete 360 degrees on his tummy - this is quite cute to watch - but I am definitely have to keep my eyes open - he is going to crawl and I won't be able to find him one day.
Its great to hear that Cooper has rolled to his tummy - as my MCHN would say - he is right on cue!!!
As for the naming/christening cermonies - we decided well before Connor was born that we wouldn't have a cermony like that - we are both not baptised - so we felt it was a bit hypocritical for us to assume Connor should be baptised. It is for him to decide for himself, and we had a name for him already before he was born - so we didn't have any thoughts on a naming cermony, as he already had a name.
However it is still a lovely idea if it is something you and your husband want to do - I think everyone has their own a opinion - I think you should do what you want to do. I think planting a tree is nice.
We are going well - however, the last 3 days - Connor has just been extremely hungry - having a 150-200ml bottle every 2 to 2.5 hours. He is very active, and I think he is burning off the milk really quickly. I am just going to keep an eye on him - because if it continues - I might have to start solids a little earlier to keep him going. I gave him a piece of crust from my fruit toast this morning and he chomped straight onto it - and cried when I took it away - I think that could be a good indication, and he no longer has the tongue reflex (ie: push food out). Geez he certainly wants to try things early.
Fiona - I tried Connor on the thickening agent - no go! It bound him up something cronic - so we too will call him - the happy little chucker!!! But I think if he starts on solids - it might eventually toughen his little tummy, and he will grow out of it.
Hope everyone else is going well.

Fiona Mackenzie suffers from reflux. When I was breast feeding her (1 mth ago) her vomit was bright yellow so I decided to her on formula. I was advised by my lactation consultant to give her Goats Milk formula. It has done wonders. She still chucks a little bit but doesn't scream and it is the normal colour. I did try her on normal formulas but I found they were too heavey for her gut.

Sorry hayleylea! I meant to reply about the naming ceremony thing, but it slipped my mind! My DH & I are not at all religious & neither are our families. People keep asking us when we're going to have her christened or baptised & I have to keep telling them we're not! I'm actually quite against it personally for us because we would feel it was pointless & hypocritical seeing that we are in no way religious. I think that if religion is important to you, then by all means go ahead. It is a great thing, as it is a part of your family's way of life. If not, then there is always the naming day alternative. It sure does sound like a lot less fuss anyway! :)
We haven't even talked about a naming ceremony. I do though like the idea of planting a tree. I had seen that before & liked it. I doubt we'll do it though as my DH would probably think it was a little "hippy-chick" for him!
Well, on the rolling issue; Claire was on her tummy today and actually quite enjoying herself! She rolled over once onto her back and then was lying happily on her back for a while & decided to try a roll back the other way. She got right over onto her side, like she has been doing a lot lately, but couldn't seem to get her bottom arm out of the way. And then all of a sudden, she just flipped over and was on her tummy!! I gave her a big clap & a cheer and she was so proud of herself!! Then a few seconds later she rolled back over onto her back (then she'd had enough & wanted to get up!) YAY!!! When I put her into her cot (insode the snuggle bed) for this morning's nap, she kept trying to roll over onto her tummy, and I think she would have made it too, but for the wall of the snuggle bed.
They are gonna be crawling soon! Scary, huh?!
At the baby shower I went to yesterday, an old boss of mine was there with her 2 kids. I was carrying Claire around in the Baby Bjorn & I said to her - this was you at my baby shower! At my shower, her bub was actually only 3 months old we worked out, and yesterday she was crawling around all over the place! We were outside so she ended up completely covered in dirt! It was all in her hair, her mouth, nose, ears etc..... Oh what fun we have to look forward to! Our clean little babies will be no more! lol

HOORAY FOR CLAIRE!! Isnt it exciting....its scary though how fast they are growing up!
Thanks fiona for replying about the whole naming day/christening thing. I agree with you after much thought i wouldnt get him christened as i too think its hypocrytical. The naming day thing for us is really just a celebration of Cooper, there will be no religious speaks what so ever...basically just a get together to show everyone how proud we are of him...we are getting a family friend to do it not a celebrant and there will be a tree planting etc and then basically just a bbq for our family and friends. We got engaged just before i got pregnant and never even had a engagment party or anyone so its a good way of getting everyone together from both sides of our families as it hasnt happened in awhile :)
We have come down to my mums again for the night cause DF is on night shift and he will want to sleep a bit tommorrow so its easier to come down here rather then sneaking around and trying to keep cooper quiet :) plus nanny just loves having us! Talk to you guys soon.

I am hopeless at trying to remember what I was going to write! I meant to say last time that it sounds as though Connor will be wanting to crawl soon, Natalie! He sure sounds pretty mobile!! He must be so cute to watch at the moment!
I was just saying to DH this morning - look at all the crap we've got lying around the place that'll have to be moved when Claire starts getting around! Ugh! Big job! But it's gotta be done! We moved house just before Xmas & the place still looks like we're moving in! We've unpacked all the main stuff & now we just need to find places for all the junk. So we're being a bit lazy given that it's so, so hot here & that we have a bub to look after... well, any excuse we can think of really! I hate moving & packing/unpacking!
DH just came home a moment ago with a big surprise for Claire! He went out & bought the Fisher Price Incrediblock I have been eyeing off! We just saw it in the latest Toyworld catalogue for $49.99! BARGAIN!!!! It is way cool! I have been playing with it!
Have a good night hayleylea! Hope Cooper has fun at Nanny's house!

Yep Connor is sure getting active, no signs of rolling to his tummy - but definitely trying to get on all fours.
Wel we tried apples tonight. He took to it very well - no tongue reflex, and chewed and swallowed with no gagging- there was a bit of playing - like spitting it through his mouth - but all in all - i think he loved it.
For those of us who have boys - went clothes shopping today for some warmer outfits - more for just around the house - not for going out etc - have you noticed the lack of things for boys!!!! Very disappointing I have to say.
Good luck Hayleylea wth the cermony - sounds great.
have you noticed the lack of things for boys!!!! Very disappointing I have to say.
Certainly have. There seems to be heaps for girls but nothing at all for boys. I too am looking for new clothes for DS as he is growing out of just about everything he has. Dh had a win yesterday at Trade Secrets. He pickup some relly nice Oshkosh for DS at really good prices. They are sooo cute.
Good luck with the shopping.

Oohh! Love OshKosh! I got some great OshKosh gear off eBay really cheap for Claire. There's one outfit in particular that is just the cutest thing you ever did see! Every time she wears it we get lots of comments!
You know, I noticed there were heaps more girl's clothes than boys this season too! I have been going loco buying stuff for Claire & noticed there wasn't a lot of really great boy's stuff. Even on eBay, there's always more girl's clothes. Although today I did notice there was heaps of boys stuff just ending. May be worth a look. I was a bit iffy about buying second hand baby clothes off eBay at first, but I have just got so much really good stuff really cheap, it's defintely a good thing!
Just wanted to let you all know of a little tip - for those whose babies aren't all that into tummy time, I got this book from the library the other day that was about games to play & activities to do with babies. It has a lot of really good ideas. There was one I saw about tummy time that I only just tried today & Claire loved it! What you do, is roll up a towel & place it under the bub's chest. Claire (who is not normally a huge tummy time fan), sat there happily for about 10 mins, loving every second! She pushed right up on her arms too, so it's really great exercise for them. I took some (very cute!) photos if anyone wants to have a look at what I mean. Just let me know.

Hi guys
all is going well at nannys house....my mum spoils cooper and he just loves her.
Fiona, cooper not being a fan of tummy time either i would love to see what you mean with the towel!!! I dont know if you meant you would send the pics through so we could have a better look or not but if you did my email address is hsmith23@hotmail.com i also have messenger if anyone wants to add me :p
I too am dissapointed in the range of boys clothes available! I have been looking for winter stuff but there isnt much around at all...
lol, having a girl and having a lot of choice for clothes means that you go stupid and buy lots of clothes. I am out of control. :o
Poor Maddi is still sick. She went back to the doctor and we had to submit a stool sample so they can test for what is wrong with her. She has lost so much weight and every time I give her a feed she does a poo and it's a really weird green slime, sorry if thats TMI but I'm really freaked out and worried. Today she has started to be more lethargic and looks so pale. The results don't come back for another day but it seems like ages.
I have dreaded Maddi getting sick and now it's happened. Luckily Mum and Dad are up for visit so they are reassuring me that Maddi will be ok.
I forgot to let you know how our dinner out went on Thursday at my friends house. Maddi was a gem and was full of smiles, even had a little nap.
Well Maddi and I had been away at my parents house for 2 weeks without her Dad who had to stay at home and work. When we got home she was all smiles for Dad and cuddled up to him straight away. DH was astounded as how big she had grown, I guess when you see them every day you dont notice as much. Maddi is filling out size 0 clothing pretty well these days.

Poor maddi! I hope she gets better soon. I have been dreading cooper getting sick aswell - touch wood it doesnt happen but i feel for you guys!! GET WELL SOON MADDI! :)
Cooper has been an angel today...he woke up at 6.15 this morning (a little earlier then usual but i figured its because we are at nannys house) so i fed him he had a play and was looking tired so i gave him a cuddle and his little eyes closed for a minute so i popped him into his bed (because i needed to go to the toilet) anyway he was wide awake kicking and playing in the cot so i let him go and then 5 minutes later i walked in and he was sound asleep....he woke up at 9.30 and had a tiny feed and then played for a minute and then started to get whingy so i cuddled him and put him in to bed again and he did exactly the same thing. He also did this a couple of times last week. Its sooo good i hope he puts himself to sleep more often...its so cute and it just makes you sooo happy. He is such a good boy, not meaning to brag, but i havent had a bad night with him yet! mind you we havent gone through the teething stage yet lol. :p I have heard that sleeping patterns can change in the blink of an eye so im definatly not taking it for granted while its good. :p
Hi everyone and welcome to all the newcomers to this thread (October was a busy month last year).
Bingo I hope poor Maddi gets well soon -I'm sure she will be fine but I understand it must be worrying. I get worried about the littlest thing with Paddy (we are off to the Dr today because he has a little bit of an infected big toe from me poking at it trying to get dirt out from under the nail I think - the Dr will probably think I'm mad for going in but better to be safe than sorry).
Cooper is a legend with his sleep Hayleylea - I am quite envious. Paddy is really pretty good but I am usually up every morning at a pretty horrible hour (4:40am this morning). He usually has an 8 hour sleep at night (which he did last night -was in bed and asleep by 8:40 - his 8 hours is often exact which is funny) but Saturday and Sunday night he started to scare me a bit because he was up for a feed at midnight one night then 1am the next (and then back up at about 5am both days). I started to think his sleep pattern might have changed which worried me - I really do appreciate his normal 8 hour sleeps. Hopefully it was just a couple of nights though. A friend did tell me that at about 4 months the whole pattern can change which is a bit scary.
Fiona I have recently been using the rolled up towel under the chest for Paddy's tummy time after the nurse told me about it when I said he hated it - he likes it much more now and seems somewhat happy about being there for a while which is good. That's good Claire likes it too and exciting news about her rolling. No sign of Paddy rolling yet but I am quite happy for him to stay in one spot for a while yet.
Natalie I bought a few cool long sleeve tops for Paddy at KMart but it was a while ago when I bought them (haven't looked recently). There seems to be stages of heaps of cool stuff and then nothing. Good luck with the search.
Better go - lots to do in the 40 minutes (probably - wish he would nap longer than that one of these days) that I've got while Paddy's asleep.

8 hours is still pretty good cath...have you tried keeping him up longer so you dont have to get up so early? its eaisier said then done though because when the poor little things are tired their tired.. I know theres no way of keeping cooper awake if he is tired...if you try he only gets cranky. He goes to bed at 7-8 and gets up 6.30-7 usually.
Off to get our 4 month old needles this week :( So id say friday night and the couple of days after mighten be so blissfull.

Hello all
My name is Kellie. I am a new mum to Abigail 3.5 months, also new to the whole online chatting thing, but going insane at home with noone to talk to. So I thought I would have a go.
Hi Abi's Mum, don't worry you'll soon become an bubhub addict like the rest of us. It is great to be able to chat to other mums when you are at home all day. Keeps you a little sane and it's nice to be able to share problems and stuff like that. I've changed my Avatar to Maddi sitting in her new Bumbo. It's so great. She is still getting used to it, at the moment she sits there with a shocked look on her face but is loving being up there with all us oldies.
I know what you mean about sleep habits. No sooner do you think you have it all figured out then they all go and change on you.

Thanks bingo,
I's sure i will be chatting alot. At the moment, language seems to be limited to peekaboo and ga-ga, dada etc, :)
I don't know how Abi (or I)did it, but she has just slept thru the nite from about 11weeks. We went camping then, and from the first nite, she decdied it was to hard to wake for a 3 am feed, gosh-darn it:D

Hi there Kellie, welcome to the October 2005 thread.
Another melbournian!!! You will have to keep a check on the victoria/melbourne section. There is a group of us that get together every month. I know Lalor Park is a little bit further than some of us - but if you don't mind the drive - then it would be great to meet you.
I am out in the South East (Narre Warren South). but we have a meet on the
10th of March at halliday park - can't quite remember where it is though.

Ahhhh..... you spend the day out shopping & there's so much to catch up on when you get back!!
I've just got to keep an eye on the time 'cos there's a couple of items on eBay ending soon I want to jump in & make a last second bid on.
OK, first up, Tummy Time pics! Kellie (hi, BTW!) you may be interested in these also. Claire was also not a big fan of tummy time, but I saw an idea in a book where you place a rolled up towel under the baby's chest & Claire just loved it! She sat there for at least 10mins. And today when we were having tummy time (without the towel), she was happier for longer too.
I'm also going to post some other recent pics (being a proud mumma!!) she is just so gosh-darn cute!!

Bingo, I hope Maddi is feeling better! Let us know how the test results go. I know you must be a nervous wreck. But I'm sure she's fine & it's just a tummy thing. (Fingers Crossed!) Once she's better I'm sur she'll put back any lost weight in no time. She looks so gorgeous sitting there in her little bumbo seat!! I have been angling DH to try & get one. I'll let you know how I go!
Hayleylea, that's great about Cooper sleeping well! Claire is a pretty good sleeper (has slept thru since 6w & has slept 12 hrs + since about 3m) but only recently (as you are all aware!) has she gone down without a fight! We've had a couple of relapses when she's been out of her routine - somewhere away from home - but even then she hasn't been too bad. I've definitely noticed a change in her sleep habits just a few days before she turned 4m, so that is no old wives tale!! There were even a few nights there where she was waking up at about 2 or 3 am very briefly, but she's back to sleeping thru again now (phew!)
I said to DH last night that I would be very surprised if a tooth doesn't pop through shortly. Claire has been chomping away on everything in sight. Every day it gets more & more (so does the drooling!) She grabbed my finger today & was chomping away like she was trying to gnaw through it! Last night, she was grabbing her bottom gums with the fingers of one hand & pulling down really hard & grizzling. Poor baby! I have tried to feel her gums to see if anything is coming through, but to be honest I don't really know what I'm supposed to be feeling. Time will tell I suppose!
Better go check out these eBay lots. Chat again soon! Have a great night all!

lol! I know! When I took her in for her needles, the Dr & the nurses couldn't believe it either!
She has also been able to make a sound like "mum" or sometimes "mumma" since she was about 2m old. At first we all just laughed it off as a cute thing that sounded like she could talk, but then she kept doing it - and not just at any time, only when she's either tired & grizzly, or really upset. She doesn't do it any other time. And since she was 2m old, it has been getting clearer. I think she doesn't really know that she's speaking & certainly doesn't know what it means, but that she recognises it as a comfort sound...? That's the only thing I can think of.
When we took her in for her needles, she was really chatty & the nurse who gives her the needles made a comment about it. We got to talking & I mentioned the "mumma" thing and she just laughed & we could tell she didn't really believe us. Then after her needles she was really howling & kept saying "mumma" over & over again. When the nurse heard it, she couldn't believe it & grabbed one of the other nurses to show her too!
It's pretty cute to hear! Although it totally breaks your heart when your little girl is really upset & is calling out "mumma"!!
I definitely have to get a bumbo seat, although we appear to have fallen in a financial black-hole the past couple of days, so it might be a while! I'm glad to hear Cooper is happy in his! What a cute new photo too!!!
Gotta go, sounds like Little Miss is awake!

As for the mumma thing, Abi does it too, except it definately isnt deliberate and it sounds a bit more like maaaaaaaaaamaaaaaaaaaaa to me. but everytime she cries, lowe and behold that what she cries. But every time I hear it, I just want to giggle, which is good i guess, cause then abi starts giggling back pretty soon

I'm just glad everyone seems to be having success with the tummy time towel idea! I wonder why they like it so much better?? Maybe it's easier for them to hold themselves up so they don't get as tired as quickly.
Hayleylea! You are so lucky!! Claire is really smiley at the moment, but as soon as I point the camera at her, she stops!! I'm so lucky if I can get a good one of her smiling!
I read somewhere recently (actually, I think it was on the Huggies website) that babies smile more at 4m old than they do at any time in their first 18m! I'm not sure why exactly, but it appears to have some truth to it!
Who was it was saying that they got a recipe book & some info booklets from Heinz? Well, I spent all of Sunday night emailing companies asking for freebies & I got that stuff from Heinz also. It's pretty good, isn't it?! One of the booklets was about how to know if your child is ready to start solids. While I'm not planning on starting Claire on solids til 6m, I was reading that they are ready if they show interest in your food (well, we've discussed that one already!), if they don't seem satisfied by a feed (she seems OK there), when you offer them a spoon, they lean forward and open their mouth, and if when you offer them food the extrusion reflex has gone (pushing food out with the tongue). I was just curious to see if that reflex had disappeared, so I was eating a plum today and noticed I had a very captive audience, so I took the tiniest little bit on my finger, made sure it was all mushy & put it on her tongue. She made the funniest face I have ever seen in my life! It was so cute! But she didn't try to spit it out, she just moved it around in her mouth & then beamed a huge big grin at me! So gorgeous!!!
Then I wondered of she would take a spoon if I offered it to her. I have these soft Heinz spoons that someone gave me at my baby shower, so I whipped them out & offered it to her without anything on it. As I suspected (because everything goes in the mouth at the moment!) she lunged at it, mouth wide open! I gave it to her to have a bit of a chew so she can get used to it before we actually start solids. I might try letting her have a gnaw on it a little each day. Then I put some formula from her bottle on it & let her drink it off the spoon. She wasn't real sure about it, but she took a few mouthfuls. I was thinking I might also give her a few mouthfuls of formula off the spoon each day too so that she can associate the spoon with food before we start solids. Can't hurt!
Geez, I can waffle on can't I?! Can you tell I'm starved for adult conversation?! (Not to mention being addicted to this website!)

Hi fiona well id have to say im also addicted to this website!! It was me that recieved the heinz recipie book and it is good...all of the info was pretty good actually.
I have started cooper on Farex/rice cereal of a morning. He took to it like a beauty - he was so interested in us eating food etc so i thought i would try it and he gobbles it down like no tommorrow and i have had no problems with pains in the belly etc so ill keep offering a ilttle bit to him every morning.
Cooper has gone down for the night so its mummy and daddy time now cause i have been away for a couple of days...so i missed out on valentines day :( When i got home he had these 2 cuddly gorrilas that are attached to each other with a red furry chain and heart and when you push a button it sings "your the one that i want" its sooooooooo cute. We dont usually get anything for each other for valentines day so it was a sweet suprise!
Anywho im off talk sooooooooon

first professional photo a success...saw the guy over a the shopping centre and the photos were only $40 for up to an hour shoot and so i thought i would give it a go and the photos were GORGEOUS he was so good and the guy doing them was great. If you didnt like the photos you didnt have to pay. Of course i liked them but i only chose one will get some more done when he is older.
what a spunky photo. I'm invited to a photo party next month but am in serious doubt that Maddi will be in a good mood for it. I've just come back from Myers, they had some kids clothes for 50% off so I bought up for next year. Such good buys I couldn't resist. Maddi is still unwell and we are still waiting for pathology results to come back. The doctor of course seems unfased by it all, tells me there is nothing they can do until the results come back. I'm ****ed off because it seems a bit lame to me. She's had the runs for 7 days now and I'm sure she isn't getting much nutrition as everytime I feed her she's pooing it out 10 minutes later. I hate how doctors pat you on the back and say there, there like your an idiot and thats going to fix it all.
Mmmm, now I feel better I've vented a bit.

Its expensive to buy but it does wonders!!!!!!! Ill definatley have to look into getting it unless i can find someone with it lol ;)
I've got version 6 which is great. But I still have a lot to learn. As for the photo party its by Butternut Snapz. It's at a friends house. As for how it works I have no idea as I've never been but I guess I'll find out on the day.

I've never heard of photo parties either. Is it like a party plan thing?
Bingo, I am sorry to hear Maddie is still not feeling well. I'm sure your Dr is just trying to avoid worrying you unneccesarily. They probably don't realise when they're being insensitive. I hope to read soon that she is feeling better & starting to put weight back on. {{hugs}}

Oh my goodness!!!!!! Look at his big beautiful eyes!!!! You're right, it looks like a totally different photo bigger! (Not that he isn't just as cute in the little avatar, but I can see what you mean about it looking different!)
That is just the cutest photo!!!!
To put my photos in, I copied a link from my picture hosting site. Have you ever used photobucket.com? They're really good. Just upload all your photos from your computer & they give you a IMG code (you can paste that in here for instance - NB: some threads don't have the IMG code activated, but this one does), a URL & something else... I forget. But it's a great site & it's free to use! The only problem is that my computer is painfully slow, and it takes me ages to upload photos onto it, so half the time I just couldn't be bothered!
MrsMiggins
16-02-2006, 19:37
Hi Mel!! I live about an hour north of Brissie, so not all that far away!
BTW, Hayleylea I just had a look at Cooper's website - very cute!!! I started one of those up when I was PG with Claire, but I just got lazy with it! (again, stupid slow computer had a lot to do with that!)
as far as I know Butternut Snapz is a party plan thing. The party Im going to is on the 4th of March so I can let you know how it goes. I'll call the number and ask them if they have a website as they invite didn't come with much information. I tried to find them on the internet with no success. The other thing is that I live in Bendigo so maybe they are only here? But I'll find out for you if your interested.
Thanks for all the well wishes for Maddi. Hopefully she'll start to feel better soon. After talking to a few friends that have their kids in childcare there is a bad bout of gastro going through the kids. The night Maddi got sick she was being smothered with kisses by a 2 year old earlier that day who ended up with gastro, so big chance thats where she got it from. So watch out for the gastro bug, I hear it's in Melbourne, Bairnsdale and Bendigo!

thanks again fiona....i told you it looks better bigger :D everyone comments on his eyes they are soooo big and blue...too cute.
Bingo that would be good if you find out....it might just be a bendigo thing but i would be interested in it if it was down this way.....make sure you let us know how it goes it sounds like a GREAT idea...even something good to get into!!
oh hayleylea, I just had a quick look at Coopers website and the photo's are cute. I'm with Fiona, he has the biggest adorable eyes. Loved the photo of him sitting in his bumbo too.
Hi Mel, welcome to our forum. Good luck with the move and hopefully we'll hear more from you.

I have just been looking at all of Cooper's pics, hayleylea - they are all just so cute! You know, Claire has that same 'measure me millipede' thing! She's not all that interested in it though...Don't you reckon you just look at them one day & you get a surprise at how big they've gotten?! I never really noticed with Claire, even with photos from when she was born, I could tell she was bigger, but she was still all in the same proportions, so it was never all that obvious. Then one day recently I looked at her and just went "woah!" When did you get so big?!
Hi Bingo - that gastro thing sure sounds about right. 2yo with gastro + sloppy kisses = sure-fire bubba gastro! Hopefully the Dr will be able to give her something to get back to normal quickly. Have they given her anything at all yet?
I really must go! DH is away & I have to feed the dog (normally his job!) and get myself dinner. I've been saying that for over 1/2 an hour now!!)
this thread moves fast lol... roll on 22nd march (moving day!!) im sooo unorganised and we are freaking about bubs passport cos they are sooo strict here now and bubs mouths have to be closed and on his his mouthi is open.. we should find out soon anyway.... anyway i will pop back tomorrow as its 11pm here now and i should be in bed! lol
yah, this stuff is addictive and I too should get off my bum and do some stuff. I just looked at the Melbourne Mums thing and noticed they are getting together in March. What happened to Annabananna? She's very quiet, miss hearing about Maddis twin. I'll be in Melbourne on March the 15th for 3 days I think at this stage so will probably miss out again!
Fiona they didn't give Maddi anything for the gastro, just told me to try and keep her fluids up. Seems pointless as whenever I feed her it just goes straight out the other end!
hayleylea
16-02-2006, 20:01
it definatley is addictive...lucky i have broadband or our phone bill would be over the moon as i check this site all the time!!!!! lol. Cooper loves his measure me millipede thing! His little eyes light up as soon as he sees it. He is always grabbin at it.
I agree with you fiona one day you just look at them and think OH MY GOD look how big you have gotten. Its funny looking back at photos...and when im walking down the street I see all these tiny babies and im like look how little that baby was and whoever is with me says to me it wasnt that long ago and cooper was that little!! so true but i cant remember him being that little lol.
Spose i should get going to bed soon too...:p

Hey mel, you also need to change your sig - to Oct 2005! ;) I wish we could be TTC'ing now (although at the risk of incurring the wrath of my Dr, we are not actually using any BC at the moment, so technically......) but I really would like to space the birthdays out a bit anyway. DH & DD are 15 days apart & mine's in Feb, so we've got birthdays, Christmas, New Years, birthdays.... all fairly close. I'd love a winter baby next time - get some use out of the clothes Claire grew out of before she had a chance to wear them! It's been so hot here since she was born, she's got heaps of stuff it was too hot for her to wear.
I'd love to have another girl & then in a couple of years a little boy.
I hope getting PG next time doesn't take as long as it did for #1!! I couldn't bear another 26 month wait!!:(
(Oh, and PS: Me & the dog have actually both been fed - I'm back! Talk about addicted!!!)

I know how you feel Mel! How long were you TTC #1?
we got told after trying for about a year that i couldnt have kids. i had never ovulated apparently... after waiting 6months for an appointment at the fertility clinic we found out i was 12weeks preg a week before the appointment! lol so we were trying for about 18-20months or so...
MrsMiggins
17-02-2006, 09:31
Wow! What a great moment that must have been for you - discovering you were PG!!!
Your bubba is a little cutie!!! I have a friend who's son's name is Brayden & I was quite surprised to see that your son actually even looks a little bit like him!!
We had "unexplained infertility". We had a lot of tests & what-not & they couldn't ever find anything that would explain why we couldn't fall PG. In one way it was a relief to know that technically there wasn't anything wrong, but it was very frustrating not being able to do anything about it. And also very heart-breaking month after month (as I'm sure you know!)
It took us 26 months last time, so I really hope we're not faced with that again! Who knows, maybe our bodies know what to do now?!:) :) :)

Geez you really can't miss a day on this thread huh!!!! So much to read up on.
Welcome Mel - great to see another little boy born in Oct 2005. I think that nearly evens us out!!!
We are going fine. DH wants me to put Connor into a baby contest on Monday - not too sure whether I am interested in it. I know he is cute - but I am biased.
Anyway its hot here again today - I am so over the hot weather - I don't mind warm days - but when it is muggy - its pointless and yucky.
We have a wedding tomorrow - and I am leaving Connor with my parents - for his first sleep over. Should be interesting - but I know I am going to miss him like crazy.
Bingo - Hopefully Maddi will be better soon. As soon as she is over the gastro thing - she will have so much energy - that you will have trouble keeping up.
We finally have a giggle that comes with smiles now. We were not too sure whether it was just another sound - but it kind of sounds like a giggle now.
I totally agree - they do grow up fast. I too want to get some prof. photos - but not too sure where to go - whether to just go to pixi photos - or get some others. I would too like to have something special - but not the common ' anne geddes' type thing (they are nice though) but just something out of the ordinary. Our local shopping centre is having a photographer along next month - but it is during the week - and DH can't get time off for that. Oh well - must do some research.
I wonder where Anna is these days?

What a great story Mel. My pregnancy was unexpected as well. But it was the best thing that could have happened. I didnt even know I was PG until I was 14 weeks. It was a relief as three months had already pasted by without me even knowing. We will try again once DD is nearly 2.
Mackenzie went in her Jolly Jumper for the first time yesterday. She loves it. It is so funny to watch her dancing around on the floor.
Does anyones baby suffer from reflux? Mackenzie suffers from is quiet bad. She basically vomits after every feed and isnt putting on very much weight. We are going to the DR on Wednesday so hopefully he can give us some advice on what is best for her.
Myself and DD are going to Melbourne next week to visit my family. We are both very excited. My mum will be very suprised at how much she has grown.
Hope Cooper isnt feeling too bad after his needles. I am trying to post a picture so you can all see my beautiful daughter but I am having trouble. I think the pics are too big. Anyway I will keep trying.
Michele
Mackenzie 1/110/05
Hi guys,
I just found out that Butternut snapz is a Bendigo based company so no luck there for you guys. But I did find that there is a group in Melbourne, go to www.bigimagephoto.com.au and have a look. They do it in your home so it's nice and easy!
It's so nice to read about the stories of fertility problems being solved by the arrival of a baby. I know of one friend that was told she couldn't have children, three children later she would love to go back to that doctor and tell him what for.
gotta go Maddi is SQUEALING for me to pick her up.

Michele, I can't wait to get a jolly jumper for Claire. I know she will just absolutely love it! A friend of mine said she'd give me hers but that was a while ago and she hasn't mentioned it again since....
You know, I find that really frustrating! I think people offering to give me their second hand baby stuff is very generous & it is greatly appreciated, but I have had sooooo...... many people since I got PG saying to me "Oh, don't go out & buy one of those, you can have mine" etc. But then months down the track I never hear anything more about it. I don't feel right asking them about it - I'd just feel funny, but then I think, well should I go & buy one myself or wait??
When I was PG my SIL said to me so many times (she has twins) Oh, I've got two of these and two of those and I'll give you this & that. Then before my baby shower, se couldn't make it (lives interstate) and so she asked my mum what I needed. Mum gave her a few ideas & she said she'd get me a nappy bag & a mobile, so mum told everyone else that we didn't need those things. Come time for Claire's arrival & I didn't buy either of those things cos she said she was getting them for her & she never did! DH's ex (mum of his DD) said she was going to get Claire a Christmas stocking with her name on it as a Chrissie present. I really wanted one for her first Xmas, but I thought I'd better not if she's going to be sending one & she never did, so I ended up getting Claire a cheap stocking from The Warehouse on Xmas eve cos it was all I could find!
Sorry guys, I didn't mean to rant! (I tend to do that....:o )
Hayleylea, isn't it so heartbreaking when they're all happy & smiley before their needles! Poor Cooper! I hope he'll be fine after his sleep & will have forgotten all about the nasty needle person!
Natalie, isn't the giggling just the cutest sound you ever heard?! Claire started out with a sound we thought might be a giggle also, but it's definitely now a giggle! I love playing tickles with her on her change table in the mornings just to watch her giggling over & over again!
Hi everyone and welcome Mel,
hope Maddi will be okay soon Bingo.
No advice on the reflux front sorry Michele -Paddy seems to keep his food down pretty well at this point. Hope the Dr can sort something out for you.Look forward to seeing Mackenzie's picture.
Great new picture of Cooper Haylealea and I hope he recovers okay from his injections - was it 3 injections again this time?
I am over this hot Melbourne weather too Natalie - we went out this morning to Highpoint and were leaving about lunchtime and it was disgusting. Bring on winter I say - I love winter clothes and being able to cover up. If anyone feels like shopping there is currently 50% off the reduced price of everything at Myer which is great - I got some great bargains - went a bit mad in the childrenswear and book departments. I was meant to be buying stuff for Paddy for next summer but seemed to get sidetracked and came home with mostly stuff he can wear now which I've got to stop buying - he is never gong to wear it all. I really hope we have at least one more boy in the future so that we can get to use all the clothes I have collected.
Good luck with Connor's sleepover. I'm sure you will miss him. I think it would kill me to leave Paddy for a whole night but I am very much looking forward to next Wednesday - Dean and I are going out for dinner while my parents babysit which will be great. Paddy always seems to want attention at our dinnertime so I can't remember the last time I had dinner without a baby talking at me and having to say "yes little man I know what you are saying" (or something equally as ridiculous) between mouthfulls.
Anyway better go.

My problem exactly!!! I just can't pass up a bargain! I got all these gorgeous little tops for Claire yesterday from Kmart. They had all their summer stuff reduced & then had 15%off storewide! I ended up getting all these cute tops a few for 85c & a couple for under $2! What a bargain!!!!
I keep telling everyone that we need to have another girl before we can have a boy - preferably at a time when its a little cooler so all these clothes can get some wear out of them!

Did Cooper only get 2 needles?? What state do you live in again? I am in QLD and our 4m injections here are 3 needles. I have a friend in NSW who says that theirs are now all combined into 1 needle. How much easier would that be?!?!?
When I asked the nurse about it, she said that the combined single needle is so expensive that there is no way the government will fund it (which I think is ridiculous!) & when I told her about my friend in NSW, she didn't know anything about it.
What about everyone else - how many needles where you live?
DH & I were even seriously considering taking her down to visit her Nanny just over the border at 4m & getting them done down there so that she would only have to have 1 needle.

My pregancy is going good as far as morning sickness havent had any! But have a high heart rate and is making me feel really tired, I had a high heart rate when I was pregnant with Maddie so I was naturally scared of it happening with this one and it is! I just cant do anything which makes it hard with the girls, cause they just run a muck now! REST REST REST they all say and all u mums know that only happens when the kids are sleeping!
Let me know if anyone has been through this cause I dont know anyone who has and Im feeling quite rare at the moment!

oh how good would one needle be. Maddi is due for her 4 month injections once she is feeling better and there is going to be 3 injections again. I wish I didn't have to take her as I too hate hearing her cry like that. Maddi's pathology results came back inconclusive so we had to send more samples today and the results are supposed to be back on Monday. RRRRRR! Last night Maddi threw up her 11pm feed all over me, which I didn't give a toss about, I was more worried that it was the start of a vomiting stage. Luckily she ony did it the once or I would have been marching down to the hospital. I spoke to the doctor over the phone today and he said if she starts to get a dry tongue and wrinkly skin then we have to take her to the hospital and she will need to be put on a drip. God I hope it doesn't get to that stage. She's so tiny and I can't see her letting the drip stay in.

Bingo, you must be so frustrated & concerned! I can only imagine what this must be like for you.:( {{hugs}} Let's hope the vomiting was a one-off.
I wonder why the needles are different everywhere you go? You'd think that immunisation would be a federal government funded program & that it would be the same Australia-wide. It's stupid how it is now!
hi neneales! They say the best way to get your kids used to needles is to let them watch you when you get your needles (of course, you need to put on a brave face too! :) ) If you're PG at the moment, you should take your kids with you every time you get bloodwork done so they can see that it's no big deal. When they get their's done tell them it'll be like a little bee sting, then it'll all be over - never tell them it won't hurt.
When I was 5, we were moving O/S & we all had to have a million needles (you needed them to go anywhere in those days!) I remember the 2 things that helped the most were watching my mum & dad get needles first & then watching my big brother get his & trying to be braver than he was! I do remember that he cried & I didn't! lol:D

Speaking of photos, if you register online for Coles Baby Club, you get vouchers for Pixi Photo/Portrait Place.
They're not bad! I just got mine in the mail.
There are 3 vouchers: 2 x Free Sitting & Gift Portrait (free sitting & a free 25 x 33 (10" x 13") full colour portrait) You don't have to buy anything to use these vouchers; and 1 x Free Sitting & Gift Portrait + 6 Free Photos (bonus pose) with the purchase of a 4 pose collection. The vouchers have no expiry date & are only 1 offer per family, but in the conditions it says you can use the vouchers at 6 monthly intervals (I'm assuming this means the same family can use them at 6 monthly intervals? )
You also get a voucher for 2000 bonus FlyBuys points when you spend over $100 at Coles (valid til the end of March).

lol! You are a bad influence girl!:p
I tell myself a hundred times a night I'm going to bed & I rarely end up there before 11pm! Mind you we are in the backward state of QLD which is yet to introduce daylight savings (I'm ever hopeful we'll see it one day being a southerner!) so it's only 8.30 here!
hayleylea
17-02-2006, 20:33
lol still not in bed yet but im getting sleepy....it sucks because cooper is such a good sleeper but i have a naughty little rotweiler who decides to get up at 5am and wake everyone up lol....

I luuuuuurrrrrvvve Daylight Savings!!! For a start it'd mean an extra hour's sleep in in the mornings!!
Now upon your recommmendation, I have had that 2nd glass of red (just as good as the first) although I may be in trouble - when I poured it I realised there was too much for 1 glass & not enough for 2 glasses left in the bottle......
....... so of course I've had to have it all tonight!
Ahhh - naughty rottie! We have a big fat lazy labby (a beautiful little man, none-the-less!) who sleeps more than Claire does!
BTW - Yes! Have messenger & love it! Feel free to message me whenever. I'll add you if you pop up!

Oh! I meant to tell you!
In the freebies & samples section, someone posted about free samples for biodegradable nappies. I just filled in the online form for a sample pack. I know how much you love freebies!
Also, have you tried that one for a free sample of the pet food? It's for Supacoat treats. I did that one tonight too.
And - I also just posted a link for free Gaia Skin Naturals samples.

I'll add you. I don't think I have my Messenger online at the moment. I took it off auto & I sometimes forget to activate it when I'm online.
We actually posted at the same time! Make sure you check out my post above yours - it's about freebies!
Have a good nite! DH just went to bed. We got an extra pay TV box in the bedroom & just put A/C in so he practically lives in there now!

Thanks fiona...i did the biodegradable nappy one...i recieved 2 nappies in the mail. They were soooooooooooooooooo soft. I found though when cooper wet them they stunk a little :o But they were really nice and soft but dear to buy but hey who cares when you get freebies!

What the websites for these ones? ill have to do that too...
After all went well with coopers needles last night he was alittle restless last night... he let out a few little cries and he was sooooo hot. Poor little man. He wasnt too bad though i had to get up a few times but i didnt have to get him out of his cot, just patted his tummy for a second and he was back in snoze land.
i cant believe this thread moves so fast lol. so can someone tell me what immunisations babies get there and at what age? do u have the menigaccocal B (SP?) one yet if so how many doses and at what ages, lol sorry to be a pain! btw brayden has silent reflux and milk protein allergies....
MrsMiggins
18-02-2006, 09:00
Sure!
The Australian Recommended Immunisation Schedule is as follows:
Birth: Hepatitis B
2m: Diptheria Tetanus Whooping Cough; Hepatitis B; Haemophilis Influenza Type B (Hib); Polio; Pneumococcal
4m: (as for 2m)
6m: Diptheria Tetanus Whooping Cough; Polio; Hepatitis B (or at 12m instead); Pneumococcal
12m: Measels Mumps Rubella (MMR); Haemophilis Influenza Type B (Hib); Hepatitis B (if not done at 6m); Meningococcal C
18m: Pneumococcal (if eligible); Varicella (Chicken Pox) (The chicken Pox vaccine is the ony one not currently funded under the national immunisation program)
4y: Diptheria Tetanus Whooping Cough; Measels Mumps Rubella (MMR); Polio
You need to have an up to date immunisation schedule (or proof of a recognised catch-up schedule or a valid exemption) to enrol your child at school.
As for how many needles each time, I can only tell you how it currently is in QLD based on my own experience, because as we are learning, it seems to be different everywhere! Claire had 3 needles each time for her 2m & 4m shots.:(
Hope that helps!
Hi guys, man you guys were having a blast last night. Hayleylea if you still have those bags I'd be interested in taking them off your hands as I'm still BF.
Bradysmum I'm in Victoria and from what I can see on Maddi's card is that she gets a men'B at 4 months and 12 months and a Men.C at 12 months. Hope that helps you out. One of my friends has a bubba that is allergic to dairy and also has reflux, he has just gone onto solids and she is finding that has made a lot of difference to the reflux problem. I've read about thickening agents in the formulae to help out but as I'm BF I don't know anything more about that. I think a few of the girls were talking about it in this thread a while ago.
I'm soooo tired, Maddi woke at 11.30pm, 3.30am, 4.30am and 7.30am last night! I miss my bed!
I'm often on MSN too, my hotmail address is lucindacapuano@hotmail.com so put me in too!:D

We don't get Mening' B vac in QLD - at least not to my knowledge!! See, this is weird! Why wouldn't it be the same across Australia?! It's not like people don't move or travel interstate?!
I added your hotmail address to messenger, but it said I couldn't add you as you didn't have a Passport account  Anyway, it automatically sends you an email inviting you to join.
I hope you get to catch up on some sleep today!
thanx! gosh they are so different from here! i will have to talk to the drs and see what they say. cos we have 4 doses of menzB now. and no menzC. our babies get done at 6wks, 12wks, 18wks, then 6, 8 & 12months.... brayds has had his first 2lots, as he was too sick to start at the right time. we have him on pepti junior formula for his protein allergy....

Not to worry bingo! You make sure you get a good night's sleep tonight!
Hayleylea, I am so sorry I missed you tonight! I was on the computer, then I went to go look after Claire, but I left in on. After I'd played with her for a while & fed her & she was starting to get tired, I was walking around with her for a while & I walked past DH who was on the computer. I saw the messenger thing in the task bar & I asked him who sent a message. I swear to god! He is dead-set hopeless! I don't know how many times I have explained to him about messenger & what it is - he has no idea! He said "I dunno, it's been sitting there for like half an hour"
Claire was being a rat-bag tonight (still, a cute little rat-bag!;) ) She kept acting like she was falling asleep, so I'd put her in her cot & then she'd be wide awake, smiling & giggling (hard to be cranky when they're doing that, but I still wanted her to go to sleep!) This went on for 2 hours! To be fair, she did start acting like she was tired at about 5 o'clock, which is at least an hour & a half before her normal bedtime.
So now I'm exhausted & covered in baby slobber. (And yet these are the things I love about being a mum! Call me crazy....) I think I'll have an early one for once too.

Fiona thats ok that you missed me..i think you said hello to me last night too but i was out for tea and left the net on
talk to you all soon...
Hi Chels, love the photo of Riley. Riley is 1 day younger than my daughter Maddi!
Fiona, I was looking back at the thread and I must have missed the page that had all your photos of Claire. My God does she really sit and stand like that? Thats amazing, she's so strong.
I was thinking it would be great if we could momentarily have Avatars with us with our babies so that we know what we all look like? Just a thought - what do you guys think?
hi guys,
thanks for the compliment of photo.thats the first one i got of him smiling:)
fiona,im glad you chose claire as a name,i like it better than chelsea.its funny how many chelseas there are now.when i was born it was an unusual name, same as my brothers camden and aiden and my sister jade.anyway im waffling now.have a great day girls:p

Riley's pic is a cute one!! Love those smiley pics! As soon as we turn the camera on Claire she gets fixated on it & stops smiling!
Actually, one of the reasons we decided against Chelsea is that one of my friend's at school's name was Chelsi Faye. We wanted Fae as a middle name, so it would have been Chelsea Fae! Since we had Claire I have come across soooo..... many Chelsea's, so I'm glad we went with Claire (you never hear Claire these days!) but I still really like the name Chelsea!
I made Fae from my mum & grandma's names. They are Florence, Allison & Edna.
I got DH to take a photo of Claire & me this morning. It's not a great one, but I was looking through my photos & I only have 1 or 2 with us both in it & they are really old (like newborn pics!) We really should get more family shots!
Bingo, I love your photo with Maddi! It is so lovely! You can see the resemblance! BTW, Claire does have really strong legs, back, neck etc. She always has, not sure how or why! All she wants to do though is stand up, which is really exhausting for whoever is holding her (ie: ME!) I'm really going to have to get her a jolly jumper asap. Just need to get some bills out of the way first.....

Hi all,
It is taken me a little while to catch up on all the goss - Hayleylea & Fiona you certainly must have had a great night the other day.
Hi all too - Bradysmum & Chels - geez its great to see lots of Oct. 2005 mums.
Connor had 3 needles for his 4 month shots. Same lot as the 2 month ones.
The sleepover went well and Connor was a little angel for Grandma & Grandpa - even slept through the night. They bought him a present while he was there - one of the walkers that are suited for 4 months + - he absolutely was beside himself. Wasn't too sure at first - but when we went to pick him up - you couldn't get him out of it.
Connor too has reflux - it is painful reflux - just lots of vomiting. Our health nurse recommended thickening agents - tried it for 2 days (only every 2nd bottle) and he was so constipated, it wasn't worth it in the end. So we are more than happy to just live with the vomit - we just have to get better at predicting it!!! We were trying solids - but on some advice of others - it will be better if we wait another few weeks. He is happy with more milk - so we will leave it at that at the moment.
Anyway must go - lots to do before bed!!!! Hopefully I will have a better lead on the posts tomorrow. lol!
Hi there guys,
How do you find this stuff Hayleylea (the ticker stuff that is)? It's pretty nifty, plus it helps me figure out exactly how old Maddi is.
Nkenward it was great to hear that Connor was so well behaved for his grandparents. Wish that Maddi would be a bit more relaxed about me going out. She is very clingy to me at the moment.
Great Tickers Fiona, my personal fav is the color photo, she is a real smiler isn't she!
I've just pigged out on a slice of mousse cake and let me tell you it was yummy. So much for that diet to get rid of my spare tyre. I figure it's my comfort food for the past week of hard work and lack of sleep while Maddi has been sick. We went for a walk around the local lake tonight and fed the ducks and the swans. Maddi loved it and was giggling. It worked a treat in tiring her out as by the time we got back to the car she was out like a light and slept all the way home and then half an hour in bed. I imagine she's dreaming of the ducks and swans tonight.

20-02-2006, 07:49
Oh, I hope it isn't a cold!! I'm dreading Claire getting sick!:(
I got what I thought was the start of a cold about a month ago (sore throat & a bit snuffly) & Claire started getting a bit snuffly also, but nothing ever came of it for either of us (thankfully!!)
I was trying to remember the last time I had a cold & I think it was actually at least 2 and a half years ago! It was just after we moved to QLD & I was on holidays from work (that'd be right!) I used to pick up everything that was going around until I started eating a balanced diet & taking multi-vitamins every day when I was trying to fall PG. Ever since then - not a thing!!
Hi guys,
one of the bubhub mums has a website www.bellapictures.com.au and it has some absolutely stunning photos of babies if you were interested in getting photo's taken. Worth having a looky.
Hayleylea I really hope Cooper doesn't have a cold. Poor thing and poor you. It really is quite stressful when they get sick. Let us know how you put your ticker as a outlook signature, I tried it out a few times last night and it just came up as gobbledygook each time I tried. I tried HTML and that didn't work either. Stupid computer! It's definitely not me :D :o
Hi,
hope everyone had a good weekend. Hope Cooper isn't sick Hayleylea and hope Maddi is on the road to recovery Bingo.
I have a question for everyone. Has anyone found that thier little ones have changed their sleep habits at about 4 months. Paddy seems to be going back to waking up in the middle of the night again after sleeping through for at least 8 hours from 7-15 weeks. We have had a crazy week this last week and I feel like I have a newborn again. Saturday night he went to bed at about 9:30 (after quite a battle) and was up again at 3:10am then back to bed at 4:00 but was then up again at 6am then back to bed at 6:30 then up again at 7:30. I am struggling to fall quickly back asleep myself after each time so am not getting much sleep and am feeling buggered. He was better last night -in bed at 9:30 again (no battle) and then up at 4:00 until 4:40 then up at 7:30 -that I can live with. Anyway I have read that at about this age their appetitie may increase which means they wake up in the middle of the night again - I sort of hope that is it so that when he starts solids he will sleep through again. I miss my night sleeping boy!!
That's great the sleep over went well Natalie. Nice to now you can have a break now and then.
I'd better get going and pack the pram - off to yoga class soon - didn't go last week and my back is feeling the effects. It really seems to help strengthen my back for the week which is good when I have to carry a 7+kg boy around. Hope everyone has a good day.

Hi there Cath,
Yes I have heard that babies tend to change at the 4 month mark. Connor has become rather hungry - but has just increased his bottles during the day - but is still sleeping through. But I have heard that breastfed babies will tend to wake again during the night. I think it all has something to do with growth spurts.
I have noticed not only has Connor increased his milk, but he has just become his own little person - I can see a dramatic change in his personality and appearance. He more aware of what is going on around him, and he is now reaching out for Mum & Dad.
hayleylea
20-02-2006, 11:03
cooper woke up twice in a row during the night but now he is back to sleeping through. I too have heard that they change their sleeping habits when they hit 4 months.
Cooper seems alright he is still happy and no temp...a little cough here and there but nothing major just hope it stays that way!
Anywho gotta get going and have some lunch
sleep habits definitely change at 4 months. Maddi's changed about a month ago and I'm still trying to recover from the rude shock of it. I know what you mean about getting back to sleep. I have been having so much trouble, usually laying there for about an hour or so looking at the ceiling wishing I was asleep. I'm dreading the teething stage!

I agree too! Definite sleep pattern change at 4m! Although Claire does seem to have gone back to sleeping through (touch wood!!), there was a while there she was waking up around 1-3am every night. Luckily she'd go back to sleep pretty easily, so I was only up for 20 mins or so, but I suffer from insomnia so getting back to sleep is tough for me also! She also changed her whole pattern of actually going to sleep, which was tough for all of us!
Hopefully it'll only be a brief change for you Cath!
Claire also increased her feeds, but today she's hardly had a thing! Each time I offer her a bottle she has only a tiny bit & then doesn't want any more. I know they only take what they need, but it is very hot here today & I don't want her to get dehydrated. It's now just after 3pm & since 6.15 when she woke up this morning, I worked out she's only had about 300 mL. She's supposed to have approx. 5 feeds a day of 240 mL!

hey! That looks really good actually Hayley! Can't wait to see your pics using it! Don't you reckon the chick in the "family" photo looks curiously like Princess Mary?! (Does anyone else feel kindred with Princess Mary having bubs born around the same time?! Or is it just me...... :p When their bub was born & it was in all the women's mags, I was joking with DH at the Coles checkout that our bub could marry their bub & we'd be related to the Danish royals & the checkout chick looked at me strangely like I was serious!)
How's Maddi today bingo?

Poor little guy! And it can't be much fun for you either hayley! I hope you're both feeling better soon.
And I hope Maddi is better, bingo!
Claire only just went to sleep now - it's 10.15. She is normally back in bed way before now & we're supposed to be meeting a couple of other bubhubbers for lunch at midday! I'm going to have to wake her up to go. There's no way she'll be awake by then. Oh well, I hope she sleeps in the car.
Have a great day everyone!
Hi guys,
we are waiting for more test results today. Hopefully we'll get some answers as to what is causing her tummy troubles. She is still pooing a lot and a funny green color. But she seems to be happy enough? Maddi got weighed yesterday and is not suffering at all from weight loss. At 4 months and 4 days she weighs 7.1kg and is 64cm tall. I'm definitely going to be the shortest in the house for sure.
Going out for lunch sounds like a great idea Fiona. What a great day for it. I'm not game to take Maddi visiting at the moment in case she passes on her bug. We wouldn't be very popular if that happened.
Poor Cooper and poor you. Hope you both get better soon. Dose up on the multivitamins and make sure you get lots of rest. I hear the nasal saline wash is great for bubs if their noses get too blocked and they can't drink.

Well, she did wake up in time for us to go to lunch, but then all day now she hasn't had a big sleep. The most she's had has been just under an hour! So I'm sitting here typing with a tired, grizzle-puss in one hand! She's being cute actually, she's got her cheek resting up against mine and this cute little pout going on! I'm trying to keep busy because when I do she normally goes back to sleep.
See the new smilies bubhub's got going on beside the window when you're typing a post? There's some cute ones there!
I'm glad Maddie isn't losing any weight & that she is happy. That must be a huge relief for you bingo!
I hope Claire has an early night tonight, cos so might mum! I didn't go to bed til about 12.30 last night! Dang & Blast this cursed bubhub! I could chat all night!:ecomcity: Except I regret it the next day!
hey hayley, I'll try that website out later! thx!

Hi all,
How is everyone going?
I hope Hayleylea & Bingo your little ones will feel better. Connor had a little cough for a couple of days - but it was due to having some really warm nights and not going to bed with enough clothes on for when it got cooler during the night. But I know now that he has to wear his sleeping bag - regardless of how warm it is - because at least I know that he can't throw it off.
Well we went to the Baby Contest on Monday - what a lot of hooha! I didn't believe parents could act so ridiculous - but it is all true. We arrived just before 11am, only to discover they were already judging (not according to the times alotted). It cost $8 to enter - and there would have been at least 100 children ranging from 0months to 4 y.o. They judged the 0-6months first - I was fine with that - assuming they would announce the winner after each section - nope - they went on to judge the next lot. It took an 1.5hours to judge the 0-6months, Connor was so good - but he wasn't going to just sit there for 3 hours. Anyway, I gave up and went home - it wasn't worth it - I know he is cute, I don't need a ribbon to prove it. But geez some parents just go overboard - there was a 3 y.o boy in a pale blue tuxedo - he wasn't even cute.
Anyway must go - my little boy is calling - we have our last mother's group meeting this morning - it will be interesting to see if they are interested in continuing the meetings.

Wow Natalie!! I was thinking about taking Claire along to one of those things, but was afraid it would be just like you said. Now I reckon I could happily do without it! I hate it when parents are like that. I just want to slap them across the face and tell them to get a grip!
I'm also not looking forward to the pushy, obnoxious "sports parents" when Claire is older. We used to live near some sports grounds & often went for a walk around while the kids were playing soccer or footy or whatever & I was shocked & disgusted to see how some parents behaved! You like to think that it's all a terrible cliche, but unfortunately it's not! What about encouraging your kids instead of screaming abuse at the referee/other kids/other parents?! You really do have to wonder sometimes!
Can I ask you, when you use the sleeping bag for Connor, when do you put it on him? I thought that'd be a really great idea for Claire as she will kick the sheets off every time. But then I got to thinking that I couldn't see when I would be able to put it on her. I couldn't do it before I put her into bed, it'd be too awkward & I can't see her being too happy about it! And if I try to zip her into it when I'm putting her into bed either I risk waking her (if I'm putting her in when she's asleep) or I risk her getting frustrated being wrapped up in it (she hates being wrapped/swaddled) and keeping herself awake & getting upset. I'm pretty sure that all sounded like gobbledy-gook :ecomcity: but do you get the general idea of what I'm trying to say?! lol
I want to figure something out before winter. At the moment it's not too bad as I have just been dressing her in a bodysuit & trackie pants, which is warm enough. She has the A/C on all night, set to 21-22 degrees.
Fiona I know exactly what you are talking about with the sleeping bag because I had the same issues with Maddi. I found a cheap one on sale at Myers ($7.50 - bargain) and thought I would try her out in that. Thank God I did because she hated it. Honestly, she started screaming and kicking when I put her to bed . I took her out of the bag and hey presto she went to sleep. So I was thankful that I hadn't spent all that money on a grobag. So if you know someone that has a bag you can borrow to see if Claire will sleep in it then I would recommend that.
That baby competition sounded horrific. I can just see the image of poor little bambino's trussed up in huge ribbons and tuxedo's.
Well we are off to get some photo's processed. I tried yesterday only to find my CD wouldn't work :banghead: .Very frustrating when I had to get Maddi in and out of the car. Gone are the days of quickly nipping out!

Hey Bingo & Fiona
I'm hearing you arbout the sleeping bag. mackenzie hated hers. We are in Brisbane so it is so hard to know what to dress her in at night. We have a AC in our room which is opposite her room so she does get the cool air. I cant wait for some cooler weather. We are heading down to Melbourne tonight for a week so hopefully it's cooler down there.
:smiliedance: :yelclap: Mackenzie's first two teeth are showing. I was giving her a bath this morning and she was sucking on my finger and I felt two little sharp things. I had a look and she has TWO front bottom teeth coming through. I cant believe it she's not even 5 months yet.
I'm taking her to the pediatrician today regarding her reflux hopefully he can come up with something as nothing seems to be working.
Anyway better run her majesty is calling.

Oh yay!!!! Teeth!!! That is so exciting! :yelclap: I'm looking forward to my little munchkin's teeth coming through, only because I've been expecting it for so long now! ...waiting....waiting...waiting.....
Bingo, that's what I was afraid of with the sleeping bag. I've ummed & ahhhed over several cheapie ones on eBay, but haven't got one yet, because I really do think she'll hate it. Oh well! I think I might just stick to bundling her up over winter! I'm sure she'll be fine. I wonder what age they stop trying to kick the covers off....?
Oh! BTW on the rolling thing.. Now that Claire's got the hang of it, I can't stop her! The second I lay her on her playmat on her back now, she just flips right over onto her tummy & is happy to stay there. :)
Also, she has now found her feet... well foot! Whenever she's laying on her back, say in her bed, carseat, on her change table or laying back in her pram, she instantly grabs out for her left foot. Only ever her left. To the best of my knowledge, she's never even tried to grab her right foot. And she will hang onto it for ages too! Does anyone else's bub have a left/right preference - especially on the foot-grabbing thing? When Claire started deliberately sucking her hands, it was always the left one, now it's both pretty equally. Same with thumb-sucking.
Is it too early to tell handedness? DH writes right-handed, but for everything else (golf etc.) he's left-handed. His other DD is the same as he is. I am completely & utterly right-handed. I wonder....?

Cooper moves around his play mat like nothing else the days! He is SOOOOOOOO vocal aswell he talks and talks and talks:ecomcity: its so funny!
Fiona cooper also LOOOOOVEEEESSS his feet but i havent noticed him take a liking to either his right or left side. Im right handed but i eat with my knife in my left hand and fork in the right hand :banghead: lol so does DF!!! Actually so does my brother! got no idea why but i cant do it the "proper way" which is suprising because im usually pretty coordinated
We are at my mums again tonight because Trent is on nightshift so we are staying so he can get a goodnight sleep tommorrow without cooper waking him up and without me tapping away on the keyboard as the computer is our room  Anywho ill write again soon...

Love all the new pics. Haven't had a good chance to get some new ones yet - been a bit slack. But hubby has been busy fixing computer problems at the moment. He fixes the computers at my work as well - and it seems they all go at once.
As for the sleeping bag - Connor doesn't seem to have a problem. We just have a routine - he has a bath around 6-6:30 and then his last feed. But I usually just leave him in his nappy & singlet (depending on how warm it is, if it is too cool, I will put a jumpsuit on first). He has a book around 7ish with his Dad, and then I settle him b/w 7 & 8 for bed - that is when I put the sleeping bag on him. If it is warm, he will struggle a little, but he soon gets used to it. But at the moment, he just goes down in the sleeping bag with just his nappy & singlet - I don't put anything else on him, nor do I wrap him. Luckily he is just contented with.
I think with some sleeping bags, they aren't as soft as some - that could be a problem. The ones I do have a quite soft. I also find at night, he doesn't wake during the night if he is in one.
Michelle - good luck with the teething. I thought Connor was teething - but I have been told that his drooling & hands in the mouth are just part of growth & discovery process. I hope Mackenzie isn't troubled by them too much.

hello every one
I am a 23 year old mum of a baby girl (Anna-rose) and new to the site. i was told that every one in this thread is lovely so I thought I would check it out :)
Anna is nearly 5 months and is cute as a button, sooo entertaining. I was induced ( she was 10 days overdue and really over cooked) labour was a nightmare ( I still haven't recovered lol) but was so worth it ;)
Anna was born 3.485 kg just under 7 pound i think.......
I have partner and we are both crowd controllers and security gaurds. well thats us in a nutshell
so um yeah......
Hi Baybijojo, great to hear from you. Hope you enjoy reading all about our latest woes and will join in with us. Yes labour is no walk in the park but at least at the end of all that pain look what u get:p
nkenward I think u might b right about the sleeping bags as the cheap one we bought was not very soft. I might borrow a grobag from a friend and see how Maddi goes in one of those. I have the same trouble as Fiona in that I worry about Maddi pulling the bed clothes over her head during the night. We have found her like that at midnight and it is worrying. Most of the time she's OK though.
Maddi is still a poo machine and I don't know what to do. Do I take her back to the same doctor and demand more investigations? Or do I try another doctor for another opinion or do I let it ride for another week? I don't know if this is normal, that gastro lasts this long (15 days) in babies this age?

Hi Baybijojo!! I love the name Anna-Rose! Very pretty! It's fun getting in here everyday & seeing what everyone & their bubs have been up to. Our very own mother's group!! :ecomcity:
Thanks for the sleeping bag info Natalie! Was Connor ok with being swaddled/wrapped? Because I think this'd be Claire's main problem with the sleeping bag. When she was newborn she was ok being swaddled, but after about 3 days I think, she just wouldn't stand for it & always managed to undo herself, no matter how well wrapped she was - our own little houdini! And now she's the same with sheets/blankets. We're lucky if they stay on for more than a minute (and that's when she's sound asleep!) Maybe you've got the right idea there bingo - see if someone's got one I could borrow for a night or two. Hmmmm........ I'll have to suss it out.
Bingo, I would be concerned too. It is really great though that Maddi does not seem to be in any discomfort or pain & had not lost weigt at her checkup, but still, if something's not right, then you obviously want to get to the bottom of it (ahhh..... so to speak!;) ) If it were me, I'd probably have another talk to the Dr & then if I still wasn't happy, get a second opinion. If you do have to get a second opinion, you're probably going to have to start all over again with samples etc. :(
How was your mum's place Hayley? Cooper getting spoilt rotten & loving every second of it?! :D My mum & dad are looking after Claire for us this Sat nite - we have a wedding to go to. They're going to come babysit at our house. I hope Cooper's mossie bite isn't too itchy! Poor little man!

Hi there Baybijojo welcome to the Oct 2005 bubs. Connor is almost 5 months as well - hasn't the time flown. Yes, I too can still remember the labour - however, it wasn't too bad for me, my DH even recalls me saying at the end "that wasn't too bad, I could do that again", I think I was a little delirious at the time. lol!
Connor was great until about 8-10 weeks with being wrapped. Until the weather got a little warmer. We would then go in, and the blankets would be all over the place. It was quite funny to see him though, as sometimes the blankets would be wrapped like a toga.
Bingo, it wouldn't hurt to get a 2nd opinion. But I have heard that breastfed babies tend to be different than say bottlefed. I know Connor when breastfeeding would go multiple times a day - and it would be explosive/runny. But since being on formula it has become more regular. Not that I am an expert - but it would pay to see someone else. Has Maddi got a temperature at all, or any other symptoms?
Well Connor hits the 5 month mark next week - can't believe it. But I have gone back on my word on the solids - and decided that he is ready. We had our last mother's group facilitated meeting on Wednesday - we had a bit of a morning tea. I took some truffles that I had made - Connor decided that he wanted it too - took both my fingers that were holding a truffle and lunged with mouth wide open to take a bite. When I took it away - he cried. His eyes lit up with all the food on the table. So I take that as a good sign.

24-02-2006, 12:02
hmmmm..... yes, I've been contemplating it too, Natalie. Every time Claire is around food, she launches herself at it! When I offered her a spoon (with nothing on it) she lunged straight at it, mouth open wide! I think I'd like to maybe wait a little longer as she doesn't seem to want more after a milk feed (how do you know though? Claire is often a little restless after a bottle, but she's always been like that  )
I am really looking forward to making her little meals!! :chef: I've been reading & re-reading that great little Heinz recipe book & I am inspired!
A very good friend of mine who lives in Canberra is about ready to have her first bubba any minute now! I am so excited!!!! She sent me an email this morning saying how everything's ready & she keeps going in the nursery & looking at evrything sitting there all fresh & new & can't wait to bring her bub home. :D Oooooohhhh! It's so exciting!!!! Can you believe I'm getting clucky?! You'd think I'd have more than enough on my plate at the moment, but in all seriousness, I can't wait to have another bub! We're going to start trying again probably around August. (I wouldn't be disappointed if it happened before then, but I know waiting is for the best. Although no contraception....... :shame: we're very naughty, I know!)

I have been watching this thread grow and grow so i thought i would join in, i am a 28yo mother of twin boys born on the 31st Oct. (Just made it in this group).
Currently on Maternity leave and i am really enjoying my time at home especially now when they are starting to play with the toys and give me big smiles and squeals.
Look forward to chatting to other mothers
oh wow twins! You are a legend :yelclap: how are you finding it with double trouble? One of my friends has just had twins at 33weeks. The boys are still in hospital but doing well. She is going to try and breastfeed both of them which I think is just such a lot of work but like she said she doesn't know any better as they are her first. Welcome to our "mothers group" and hope you keep popping in.

Thanks Bingo,
The boys are great, they are finally starting to get into some sort of routine. It is alot of work but worth every second of it. I actually gave birth at 37 weeks my waters broke then two hours later i gave birth by C/Se. I was actually due in for an elect c/S at the 38th week but the boys had other plans.
I actually bottle feed, i tried breastfeeding but i found it too hard with two of them.
Hope your friend and the twins are ok i considered myself lucky that my boys were able to come home with me. My thoughts are with her.

All is good here, we are back from nannys house. Cooper hasnt been drinking a great deal the last few days but he seems happy enough so i guess its ok. he is still sleeping and stuff just not drinking as much as he use too.....he might be feeling a little off though as he has had a cold.

Hi mylittletwins!!! I have twin nephews & they are a handful for their poor mum! But then again, they are nearly 4! (Time goes so fast! It doesn't seem that long ago I held them both as newborns in my arms at the same time!) But as rambunctious as they are, they are the most wonderful little boys!
Isn't maternity leave just wonderful?! I am absolutely loving it!! I knew that it'd be tough to go back to work, but now I'm dreading it so much that I am very seriously doubting I will go back. If I do, it will definitely not be full time. I live 2 hours away from where I work & am away from home for 12.5 hours a day. I don't think I'd be happy being away from Claire 12.5 hrs a day, 5 days a week. I'm not looking forward to having to make that decision.
Hayley, Claire was also drinking a lot less a few days ago (I think I posted something about it) but is now back to normal. Maybe it's just another stage? Maybe it's the weather? Who knows!
I had to take Claire to the Dr unexpectedly today. When she wakes up in the morning, she sometimes has a little bit of 'sleep' in her eye, which I just gently wipe away & don't think much more of it. This morning there was some & I just did what I normally do. Then after her morning nap, DH said to me that her eye looked a little goopy. Sure enough there was more 'goop' there, but a little thicker. I wiped it away, but said I'd keep an eye on it in case it got any worse. Within an hour of that, I was calling the Dr to see if I could get in! I couldn't believe how quickly it got really bad. Her eye was just weeping & pussy (sorry - gross!) Luckily it wasn't red & didn't seem to be bothering her. She was her usual happy, smiley little self!
The Dr said it was a bad case of conjunctivitis (bad only because it had gotten so bad so quickly. However she said it was a good sign she was still happy & it was very localised). She gave me a prescription for some antibiotic eye drops but said only to get them if it started getting worse, and to just keep wiping both eyes with saline constantly. Hopefully it won't get any worse as I am not looking forward to having to give her eye drops!! DH's DD was born with a problem with one eye & they had to give her eye drops several times a day for years (I had to give them to her a couple of times & it is not something I wish to repeat again in a hurry!!)
I'm just glad it doesn't seem to be causing her any discomfort. I hope it stays that way!

Hi Fiona,
I am glad things are improving. I also had to go to the doctors with Matthew he has been suffering reflux and we got him on Zantac, it does help. I am only using it occasionally now, poor little kid suffered with it.
Other than that the boys are great they are starting to smile and squeal and its great, they are also starting to notice each other now. Its so cute.
Yes maternity leave is great, i have 6 months to go. I will be going back i am only 5kms from the CBD so it will be easy for me, but i will be sad to leave them behind but they will be in good hands. It has gone so fast though.
I am currently going to mothers group and thats been great meeting new mums in the area has been fun, they are all such a bunch of lovely women. Hopefully we will continue to meet up afterwards.
How are you coping?
Poor Claire with conjunctivitis. Lucky for Claire she's got a mum that knows what to look out for and quickly too. Maddi was a real :devil6: tonight. She wouldn't go to sleep until 9.45pm and finally collapsed in bed. It is a hot night so I suppose she was just feeling hot and sticky? Have you noticed that a lot of us October Mums have just gone through different bouts of childhood illnesses at the same time? How strange. ....Maybe it's because we've all become such social butterflies and interacting with people more?
Mothers group is great isn't it Fiona. It's nice to get out of the house and meet with other mums at the same stage as you. We've just finished ours up and we are aiming to continue meeting every two weeks. Hopefully everyone will continue with this as I like it. We had to miss out last week as Maddi had that tummy bug and I didn't think the other Mums would like their bubs to get it too.
Well I should go sit on the couch with DH seeing as I'm about to crash out in bed:sleeping: .
sorry I should have directed that Mothers group comment to you mylittletwins. I'm so tired I can't read properly.

Oh no! Reflux is no fun at all! Claire has what I believe is known as silent reflux - very spitty, but doesn't seem to bother her. I just have to put up with us both wearing several different outfits every day! lol :D I permanently have a cloth nappy over my shoulder, but I still get "got" every day! Some days are worse than others.
I love the smiley/squealy stage! I will blow raspberries on Claire's tummy & play "here comes the tickle hand!" every time I put her on her change table, just to hear her squeal & giggle! It is the best thing in the world, isn't it?! I read somewhere recently that babies smile more at 4m old than they do at any other time in their first 18 months, so I am out to enjoy every single second of it! :D
I always wanted twins - even when my brother & SIL had my nephews..... until I had just one baby of my own! Everyone I know who's had twins first up (I know a few people actually!) say that they cope because they don't know any different, but I don't know how I'd have coped if I'd have had 2 of Claire! She is a wonderful, wonderful child - don't get me wrong! - but I really struggled the first 6 weeks (I still was delighting in being a mum, but it was just a lot harder than I'd expected!) I had a lot of trouble breast feeding, which in the end meant that I had to give up (which I was devestated about) and she cried so much (and inconsolably!) we thought that she might be colicky. She is such an active baby that it is at times quite exhausting! She, up until quite recently, needed to be held constantly & had a lot of trouble going to sleep. I don't know how I'd have coped with two! My hat is off to you!! :yelclap:
But now I'm being a glutton for punishment because I really want #2 ASAP!! lol ;)
hi, thought i could join in.
im Rachael, mother to Joshua Luke, born 8th october weighing 6lb 12oz. Its been the best having him, but we have had our problems along the way. we have had to deal with him being toung-tied, feeding problems (breast and formula) and sleeping issues. To add to the situation he has slight reflux. all this in just under 5 months.
some people say they grow too quick, but these months have gone forever.
we have also just started josh on apple puree mixed with rice cereal. he seems to like it so far. We are giving it to him befor he goes to bed and found that he sleeps through the night better.
We went out today and brought his first pair of swimmers. he looks so cute in them. we hope to get him into the pool some time soon. cant wait.
i plan to get a job soon, so we are looking at putting josh in childcare. we are looking at ABC learning center. i want him to get used to other people taking care of him b4 i go to work.
anyway enough babble from me
hope to chat soon

Woah! This thread is moving so fast tonight I can't keep up! There's a new post every time I go away to write something! :D
Hi mum2JLH! Sounds like you've had a bit of a rough trot! :( I hope things are on the improve!
We were thinking about booking a place for Claire at childcare in the event that I do have to go back to work. There is an ABC literally less than 1 minute walk from our house, so that would be the obvious choice. I have looked at their website & haev heard good things about them. Let me know what you find if you decide to go with them. I do like their learning philosophy. They like to actively teach children, not just mind them & I think this is great.
How cute are little kids' swimmers at this age?!! I got Claire a little pair of baby speedo's (a swim nappy) off eBay & I keep wanting to take her for a swim in the pool just because she looks so darn cute in them!!! They are fuschia with a bright blue 'Speedo' on the bum - so cute!!!!
(PS: Your bub is just one day older than mine!!)
OMG OMG OMG
