Hi Girls

Im just after some advise really.

Ok Im 29 weeks pregnant (30 weeks this Sunday) and I've just had to finish up work due to high blood pressure. Its been high (150/90) for over a week. I saw my doctor again today, she called the hospital and said to come in for a hospital visit next Tuesday. It just seems like no one wants to deal with me. My doctor has been really good, but when I was seeing her (before she called the hospital) she said I'd needed to be started on bp meds straight away andthe hospital would probably get me in tomorrow. Now my doctors surgery has just called back saying the hospital called them back saying for me to come next week!!! Its like we've gone from needing something done NOW to you'll be right till next week.

Am I overacting??? Im not sure, I guess Im just sick of nothing happening. Is my bp really high?? Is it high enought to do any damage to our bug??

Thanks for reading. Zoe

p.s I currently have no protien and my bloods were ok, but my feet hands and face are swollen.

Hi there

No you are not over reacting, I would go straight to the hospital, it's better to be checked out then to sit around worrying about it. It could be nothing, but high blood pressure is a sign of pre-eclampsia. Just because there is no protein doen't mean that it's not that. I had no protein and my blood pressure was up and down, but not to high and I ended up with HELLP syndrome, a very severe form of pre-eclampsia and lost my little girl. So I would go and get it checked out again if you are at all concerned, don't leave it to late. Take care.

Zoe don't muck around with this, your blood pressure is high. I am appalled the hospital is giving you the run around. It sounds like you might be getting pre eclampsia and it needs to be stopped before it progresses as believe me it can progress very very fast. I would ring your doctor and tell her you are worried and could she call the hospital on your behalf to get them to take you seriously especially given you have swelling. Maybe you could even ring the hospital yourself.

The symptoms of pre eclampsia

Swelling
Headaches
Weird visual disturbances (i saw shooting stars)
Pain around the liver
Protein in urine

I had severe pre eclampsia and felt totally well so you need to be careful. I had my baby at 35 weeks, c-section he was only 2040g and spent 1 week in special care. It was an awful experience. Good luck and let us know how you go.

I would definately ring the hospital. I was admited to hospital at 160/90 and kept in a week before they induced.I was 36 weeks at the time.
Good Luck

It sounds like you have pre eclamsia and your blood pressure is pretty high. I know all about it as i had it twice now and each time was worse so if you want some info pm me. You are classified as having pre-eclamsia when you have protein but you can have protein some days and not others i found. i had to go on bp tablets and be hospitalised on and off. Both my babies were born two wks early. I had sever odeam i swelled up like a ballon all my weight gain was fluid at the end so it all fell off afterwards.

Thanks girls

I went to bed early last night with a killer headache, so I didn't get back on till now. Ive just spoken with my doctor and I'm going up to see her to have another check up. She said if things are still up, she will probably just send me to the hospital. Thanks Zoe

Good luck Zoe with your appointment.

I had a highish BP during my pregnancy I was already on a smallish dose of beta blockers for slight tachycardia which my Ob wanted me off originally by the birth. When i started going to him my bp was about 120/75 by about week 27 it was 150/80 even with the beta blockers i was on so he ended up increasing my dose slightly which brought it back down to 135/75 approx which it stayed at until i had her. I didnt get any swelling though of hands or face though my feet swelled a bit in the last weeks. He did test my kidneys with blood tests also a U/Sds when i had the 30 and 34 week ones i had to have to check on the placement of placenta.

hi Zoe
i hope all is well at the appointment.
I suffered high blood pressure the whole pregnancy about 140/80 ish and at the 28 week i had to stop work and do basically bed rest and if it was to continue (which it didn't till later) i would have bed rest in hospital.
Then at 38 weeks it went throught the roof, i was "ripe" as they say and was induced.

I reccommend rest, and take it now while you can.

good luck

Zoe,

Please get someone to do something. I had pre-enclampsia (i think thats how you spell it) any way i was i stuck in hospital for 2 weeks before i had DD because like you i had high blood pressure. It is not good for you and can harm your little bub.

I dont want to scare you or anything but you really need to get this checked. I had to have an emergency c-sec at 35 + 2 weeks cus my blood pressure was dangerously high - i think it was something like 170/40.

You say that you had a really bad head ache? I had a splitting head ache the night before they induced me - i thought my head was going to explode so i tried to sleep it of but it was no good. the nurses came in and gave me magnesium (its supposed to bring your bp down fast but i still went in to the delivery room) they monitored me overnight and at 7.30 the doc was supposed to come back to break my waters but when he checked the ECG report he said that every time i had a mild contraction the babies heart beat would drop so if i was to continue through labour the baby may not make it - so they sent me in for a c-sec at 8 and DD was born at 8.43am weighing only 4pound 1/2ounce (1.83kg)

So please do something, and take it easy. Let us know how you go.

Glad to hear there taking good care of you. I know there is nothing worse than being hospitialised. i got quite depressed both time being hospitialised for 3 wks and away from hub but it is the best thing and your in good hands. I found the headache to be the first sign. good luck and i wish you the very best.
thinking of you and keep us updated

Hi girls

Just thought I'd give you all a quick update.

I was seen at the hospital every few days between my last post (end of January) and the 13th Feb. On the 13th feb my bp was 160/115 (on bp medication) so they decided to re admit me to play around with my medication.

Over Monday night I developed HELLP Syndrome - very quickly.

Tuesday 14th February at 9.52 I had a emergency c-section to deliver our beautiful baby boy Isaac. He is very strong and healthy (still in hospital for around another 2 weeks), and Im doing well.

Doctors were amazed at how quick my bloods got nasty, and my body started shuting down. Monday morning my bloods were fine, by Tuesday early they were very bad. They thought I'd need a blood transfusion but lucky I didn't.

THanks so much for all the advise.

TAke care Zoe

Hi everybody, I went to my doctor for having headaches at least 2 times a week. The doctor gave me a prescription for pills that help headaches and high blood pressure. I don’t have high blood pressure, but have headaches. Should I take this medicine and what can happen if you take high blood pressure medicine and you don’t even have it? I am little confused. Can anyone help me?
