Hi there twinklestar1. I'm looking for birthday cake recipes too. I've just been on google and searched "birthday cake recipes". There's quite a bit - you just have to do a bit of on line searching. I've managed to find a Dora the Explorer birthday cake recipe using the Nickjr website. I'd say have a look - there's definitely lots to be found.

recipes.... what kind of cake do you like? I have quite a few recipes. Jsut let me know what you like and I will look it up.

Designs.... what does your DS like? You really arent limited... you can make anything. Think of what he likes and let me knwo and I will think up how to make it for you - my mum is a cake decorator and I used to help her lots.

I'm making DS a catepillar cake for his 1st birthday.... only cos he is too young to decide himself so I figured I would just do something easy. Think I am going to make marble cake...

We're doing a mouse ran up the clock cake. Banana so I don't have to put sugar in!

The Woman's Weekly Birthday Cake book is awesome. I really recommend it for all families! It's been around for decades, but is timeless.

It was always a tradition in my family growing up that my sister and I got to pick out which cake wanted for our B'day from this book and mum had to cook it :D

I am carrying on that tradition

The book just makes them so easy to make- it uses packet cakes in all recipies for ease and for people like me that go into full-scale panic the night before birthdays :) . It specifies how to cut up the cakes and decorate.

The last two cakes from this book that I have made:
Choo Choo! (http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m312/pookiesossige/ChooChoooo.jpg)

Pee Peep! (http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m312/pookiesossige/Ronans3rdbdaycake.jpg)

Yeah, I have that book, it's got some really great ideas :), templates and all.

For my daughter's two birthdays I asked her what she wanted.

First birthday I didn't get much of a response  but she was mad on cats at the time, so I made one from scratch - had a bit of trouble with the chocolate cake being crumbly to cut though, and I used glace icing which was runny and messy and hard to put on the cake.

Second birthday she decided she wanted a 'Twinkle Star' cake, so I used 2x Packet Mixes like that Kid's Cake book suggested, marbled them and joined them with jam, then used the book's recipe for Buttercream icing. The stars I piped out of white chocolate onto baking paper with a homemade star template underneath, then sprinkled um, sprinkles, lol, on them before they dried. You could change the colours or do different shapes or... *shrugs*
