After i took castor oil with DD and it appeared to work. On the 30th of June, i decided that 40 weeks and 1 days was enough, so out came the castor oil.
I really didn't think it would do much but give me the "runs" I took it at 2pm and was sitting on the toilet by 4pm.
At 6 pm, i thought i may be having contractions, but was unsure.
By 7pm i was pretty sure it was the start of labour. Contractions pretty much started at 5 minutes apart and lasting 30 seconds. By 8.30pm they were 1.5 minutes apart lasting for 40 seconds.
I called my midwife at 9.30pm, had a quick chat and said "you need to come in otherwise you will have the baby at home" I explained that i hadn't long been in labour and didn't want every thing to slow down when i arrived.
I told DH i wanted to stay at home another half hour as it was still too early.(my first labour was about 18 hrs in total) After two more contractions, i told DH we were going to the birth centre, as the pain was getting really bad. DH packed DD into the car as MIL was meeting us there.
The car trip in was so painful and it hurt to sit through contractions. The birth centre is usually 3/4 of an hour drive and we did it in under 30 minutes.
When at the birth centre my midwife was ready to go, with the bath already run.
The midwife had a quick check on baby's positions and heart beat ect and i jumped in the tub.
The pain become so intense with every contraction, i submerged my head under the water and screamed. DH quickly pulled me out (maybe he thought i was going to drown?) until i told him to leave me alone. I didn't want him to touch me through the contractions either, as i felt too confined.
After a few contractions i really needed to do a bowel motion, so i got out. After saying I "can't do this anymore, it hurts too much"
I realised that it was baby as well that i wanted to push and the midwife said it was okay.
As i started to push my fore waters broke going half way across the bathroom.
I slowly pushed the head out in a few contractions, and we called DD and MIL in, After a few more pushes and half the body came out and the rest of the waters broke and he slid straight out into dads hands, at 10.48pm
We had only been there 20mins:eek: Just as well i didn't wait another 30 minutes at home.
It was a wonderful quick, less than 5 hour, drug free labour.Though contractions were very full on very early but with DD being there to see it all was wonderful.
Ethan came in weighing 7pounds 11 ounces.
50 cm long and head circ 33.5cm and perfect in every way.
