DH and I have decided we will be using cloth for baby #2 and I am in the process of learning how it all works.

I have been looking at the baby beehinds MCN's and they have some great packages for starting up.I am wondering if any bubhubbers use these and if you can tell me how good they are.

Basically I am wanting to know what is the best brand on the market?

I am looking for MCN's that will last for quite a while. The baby beehinds say they last from birth to toilet training....

TIA

I haven't used cloth on a newborn, so I don't know how they'd go on newborn poo (someone here is likely to know though), but they work well on my nearly-2 DD. She's a hefty 14-15.5kg, and they fit her, with a little more room to grow.

I only have Bamboo, which I use for night, but I've heard the hemp ones are good for daytime (bamboo seem to be preferred for nights though).

They are pretty trim (depending on which covers you're using), but I have heard some women don't like trimness on newborns because they have runnier poo (and trim means smaller...so maybe they're not good because pooplosions don't fare well in a tiny nappies... I dunno, just a guess).

A lot of people here love BBB (Baby Behinds Bamboo).

You'll likely need Wool or Fleece covers for night time, but you can use PUL for day if you prefer.

I dunno what else to say.. so I hope that helps you a little...

Thats great thanks SassyMummy!

I read that the bamboo are the best ones. :)

BB Bamboo are probably one of the most popular...i would buy a few different type of nappies first maybe to see which suit better (fitted, AIO or pockets)in saying that, I use them a lot and really like them especially for night time.

i use baby beehinds at night, they are good. during the day, i use pockets or AIOs coz they are trimmer and don't need a cover...

you can't go past flats for the first few weeks for a newborn imo. You have to change them so frequently that a really absorbent nappy isn't necessary. There are some great folds at The Nappy Lady UK (google) that work well for pooplosions.

I have used BB's as my primary nappy since dd2 was about 10mths old. After about 10mths of only using those I just got a different type of nappy to try!

I mostly use the hemp during the day and the bamboo at night. They are both extremely absorbent, the bamboo being the most absorbent of the 2.

They can last from newborn to TTing, but they can get a bit of wear and tear on them that might see you having to buy a few later on. I've had mine for about 1 year and I've had 1 BBH lose the elastic on the legs (stretch right out), which I think is a pretty good record.

If you have a big enough stash it helps to minimise the strain on the nappies. Recommended amount is about 24 nappies.

BB's need a cover. PUL is good for daytime, but you can't go past wool for night (or even day if you want). The BB wool wraps are a good trim, fit, but woollies such as soakers, shorties and longies are a dream. They're breathable and require little washing. Once lanolised they only need to be relanolised about 6 weeks later, and washed only when they are a bit smelly or dirty (usually around the same time as lanolising).

If looking at PUL, BB's are good, as are Bummis or Motherease. 4 is a good amount to at least have - Using 1, 1 for the next change, 1 spare and 1 in the wash (does that make sense?!). I only wash mine when they're smelly, usually once every couple of weeks.

HTH:)

We're also fans of BB Bamboo. We use them mainly at night, they're reliable & super absorbent & can last 12 hours with a foldup and wool soaker/longies. DD sleeps in bed with us & we've never (*touch wood*) been woken up with wet sheets, so i'm pretty confident in their ability.

I use BB Bamboo and Hemp, and Greenkids on my 9 week old and have done so since he was about 5 weeks old - before then I used a few flats, some AIOs and (gasp) some disposables.

I love all of them actually. I prefer the bamboo nappies to the hemp nappies, mainly because they are so soft and lovely.

Have a look at Greenkids too - they are pretty much idiot proof, so really good when your baby is being changed by someone who isn't nappy-savvy!!

Hi- I have the Bamboo ones which we have been using at night for my nearly 6 month old (he has gone 14 hours straight with no changes and no leaks- that is a GOOD nappy!).

They are great but I cant imagine cleaning newborn breastfed poos out of them, plus as someone else said you go through so many nappies per day in the first months that you would need quite a few to get by. Terry flats sound like a good idea until the weeing slows down a bit.

We also use Bumgenius pockets (i have 24!)- I love them as even my husband can put them on Oli, and they fit birth to TTing, and they dry really fast.

For my next bub who we hope will come along soon (I had an ectopic pg last week :gloomy:) I will get a nappy wash service for the first little while then onto the BBB and BG nappies at 2 months:yes:

Anyway, that is my piece! Cherry

Oh Cherry :crying: :hugs:
We've never talked but I really feel for you right now.

MoneyFelix- I used terry flats on Ronan when he was a newborn and they were great! And that was when I didn't know about MCN. I eventually got sick of all the soaking and what that evil napisan was doing to his skin, not to mention the effects of PVC covers... ugh.

Terry flats, snappi's and fleece liners would be brilliant for the early days where feeds are still only 2-3 hours apart and poos are just as frequent. Fleece liners totally save you from effort and reduce the yucky-factor when it comes to poo. They save the nappies from most of the mess.

I find BBBs perfect for nights- you can also get bamboo fold-ups from Baby Beehinds that are excellent boosting for night. The more boosting, the dryer the bot bot, so I really recommend these. I use pul or wool- but after using wool longies for months, and never having a leak (I actually don't see how it's possible with enough boosting and lanolised wool) my vote goes to wool! Although for the early days with flats, during the daytime, I'd start with pul for the easy-clean factor in case of Poo Emergency.

Can I suggest you get a Little Squirt? Since we are talking about poo here :D It cleans off about 2-6 toddler poos a day here and I can't bring myself to think about how I'd manage without it!

First of all huge :hugs: to oliolioli :hugs:

I would suggest getting a few different types of nappies. They all have strengths and weaknesses, and I think it's good not to put all your eggs in one basket :) I prefer pockets for going out and I find the fitteds and flats are better for at home (although I like pockets at home too).

HTH :)

I would go a few of each sort for sure. I've been using GK, BG & Haute pockets as well as BBB & BBH on my little guy since he was 2 weeks (3kg) with no leaks at all :D . (I prefer the BBB to the BBH as they are softer)

Hubby prefers the pockets, I like both, but the pockets do seem to have a drier feel for bub imo. The small PUL BB covers fit my newborn ok.

oliolioli - :hugs: I'm sorry to hear your sad news.

Thanks to pookiesossage, manx girl and tea lady, I am doing really well all things considered- i hadnt known I was even PG (after three neg tests who would!) so i consider myself lucky I didnt have weeks of thinking of baby names etc etc before it all went wrong. Plus no operations or anything mean that we can ttc again eventually without too much impact on fertility, hopefully!

And to Monyfelix- Just was thinking, i wouldnt recommend getting just one (or two) nappy brands to use. That was my plan, and I got 24 bumgenius and a few BBB for night. Anyway, I keep being tempted by new nappies so keep buying more bits and pieces, so don't go too overboard early on, leave yourself some room to grow your stash as you get tempted in the future!!! And believe me if you come onto this forum you WILL BE TEMPTED! Anyway, that is me...

Hi Monyfelix,

I bought the fulltime BB package in Bamboo after buying their trial pack and preferred the bamboo for its softness. As for newborn poo...I started Maia at 10 weeks and have spent alot of time at the toilet with my Little Squirt (a must buy as Pookiesossige said! I tried rinsing them in a bucket first but waste of time, LS does much better job).

I preferred BBB to flats, when she was little as I did find the flats pretty bulky for my thin, but long bubba.

If you buy the fulltime package, make sure that you buy extra woolies as they are cheaper when you buy the package as opposed to later, which I now need to stock up on larger sizes.

The only thing is that BBBs tend to take awhile to dry, but you should not have as much a problem in WA as I do in Vic. I have had to line dry in front of the heater.

I have since discovered Bumgenius pockets and they are brilliant to dry quickly. I have 2 and now use them when going out as they are nice and trim, wish I had more of those from when she was smaller. I know now for #2.

The BBB package was well worth it. Goodluck!

Amber :smiliedance:

P.S. Ah yes, make sure you also add in a wet bag!

And as for what Oliolioli has said, "to leave room"...that is true too! Now that I have bought the package, I have since discovered this forum and am being very tempted to try others. I have started by swapping a few, that has been great!

Dunno if this is deemed advertising, but there is a Baby Beehinds demo at the baby shop in Bald Hills, Brisbane this Saturday.
I went in there yesterday and saw the notice on the window.

As you are in WA have a look at BB website. I just saw they will be there in Leederville on 29th at the Baby and Kids market (which is great to go to for preloved baby gear as well!). I'm from WA so know the area well.
