View Full Version : Baby Dentist in Brisbane
Can anyone recommend a good baby-dentist for Cobey's first check up or whatever it is you have to do after one year?
How much am I expected to pay for the pleasure of having him kick and scream in my arms while his mouth is pried open?
Cheers.

Don't feel bad, my kids never saw a dentist until they were 6 and in kindy.
dont think its going to be a kick and scream affair, kids these days should grow up without any fear of the dentist whatsoever. Take him along to your next checkup, and the dentist should just talk to him, and make him laugh, and have a quick look that way every time you go, he can have a ride in the chair, push a few buttons, play with the water squirter.... its all made fun these days. And a nice dentist wont charge you for those first few visits... if you live anywhere near morningside let me know, and I can recommend someone.

Driving through Chermside one day I saw there was a paediatric dentist there (never heard of them before!). You could give them a call and see if there is a similar one closer to you - I'm sure they'd know if there was :)

There is also a kiddie dentist called TFI dentistry and that is in Cleveland. I think most dentists are kiddie friendly though, a friend of mine is a dentist and said that the best way to make the trip to the dentist less traumatic is to start them young. He said that the first trip usually mainly involves sitting in the chair et and just getting used to process iykwim.

I'm taking my two year old to a pediatric dentist next week.
He's in Wickham Tce, I'll let you know how we find him :)

The tooth fairy - I think she's at the bayside somewhere. She does rounds of the daycare centres talking to littlies about their teeth. She's apparently very very good.

i am thinking of taking Cierra to the dentist when all of her teeth have come through. I reckon getting the clean and flouride treatment would be freaky for a little one. I cant even get C to open her mouth long enough for the daily brushings!

Id probably recommend taking your child to your dentist. Im not sure is peadeatric dentists are much different from the average dentist. could be wrong

When I was at the dentist for my last checkup, my dentist told me to bring DD to my next appt, mainly just to familiarise herself with the environment and meet the dentist and then we may repeat the process a couple of times (at no cost, can be timed for my/DH's checkups) and then when she's ready they will do a quick check up, hopefully:fingerscrossed: without tears and tantrums. I don't think you specifically need to see a paediatric dentist, especially for littlies, as most dentists these days are more kid friendly.
 my next check up?
I can't afford to go and get the work done that I need - let alone go for a check up.
Cheers for the advice guys :)

Our private health fund gives each member of our family, two free dental checkups a year, which includes a scale and clean.......we wouldn't go as frequently if we had to pay.

I took Luka in to see the dentist on my appointment, so didn't pay for him. And like everyone said, it was a bit of a play and a quick glance at his choppers. Luka will open his mouth on request for a few seconds, so that helped.
The dentist told me it's more about diet at this stage anyway, and as long as they are not on the sugary treats their little toothiepegs should be good.
Hmm, I'll have to lay off putting Coke in his sippy.. :p
just kiddin' ;)
The Brisbane Smile Centre does free first checkups I think...
just google it

I've taken DS to the paed dentist at chermside before. She's good and the whole office is decked out great for the kids. they even have a screen so they can watch a DVD while getting their teeth checked. She's not cheap, bout $90 for a check up, but she was good.

You probably won't find anyone that will do a three year old in the chair. They won't sit still, even with gas.
My DD had to have a filling done when she was just on three (I think I posted earlier in this thread...it's old lol) and she had to have a general in hospital (day surgery).
We have health cover so it was about $200 out of pocket I think. But the total bill was over $1000 :dizzy:
depends how your daughter is, the ped dentists have a lot of skill and toys and bribes to give it a go, if the child is willing. The filling doesnt have to be perfect, unless its a really bad big hole that is, as long as they get most of the decay out, and a type of temp filling in there, it can get you buy until she is a bit older, and more willing to have another go.

we don't pay either, our health fund covers it.
the whole family goes to the dentist at once for our checkups, so DS got to watch the rest of us and was busting for his turn.
all that we were really aiming for was for him to open his mouth and let the dentist look inside. he held still long enough for the dentist to have a quick look and to count his teeth and we were happy with that. then he got a sticker and balloon, each visit he should be better and better.
We play dentist at home for a week or two before hand so that he knows what he needs to do with opening his mouth etc. We make it fun and give lots of praise when he does the right thing.
