View Full Version : Sick
I've woken up this morning with a raging fever and a really horrible cough. It felt like I was burning up, I took some panadol to get my temp down and an hour later it was still 38.6 degrees. I got a bit worried because I don't know what effect a high temp can have on bub, especially so early on. Fortunately its come down further now, its about 37.4 which is good. I'm just going to keep a really close eye on it, I suppose its better to take the daily dose of panadol than have a consistenty high temp.
Just to top it all off, today is the day ms decided to kick in and whenever I cough I feel like I'm going to follow it up with a nice big :barf: .
Ah, fun fun. I'm off to try and get some sleep, thanks for listening!

I'm sorry Bec :(
I hope you're feeling better soon. I have no advice, I don't really know a lot about temps etc.
:hugs: :hugs:

Oh Bec, that sounds awful for you! I hope you feel better soon!
It's really important to try & keep your temperature down - it's advisable to not let it stay above 38 for long if you can. Use cool compresses, luke warm baths & panadol as you need it. When I had a cold a week or so ago, my doctor told me that prolonged high fevers (above 38) in early pregnancy can increase the risk of birth defects very slightly. If it gets up high again & you can't keep it down, see your doctor or go up to the hospy - that's what doc told me to do, so I assume they must have safe treatments for it, other than panadol. Hang in there hun - it'll be over soon!
Thanks Guys,
My fever peaked yesterday arvo at 39.1 which got me a bit worried, so I was in a cold bath with frozen flannels and drinking icy water (thanks mahna!). I couldn't get it below 38.6 and my cough was starting to get much worse, so I headed down to the afterhours GP clinic at the hospital. The doctor there was really lovely, she put my mind at ease concerning the temp and prescribed me antibiotics for what she thinks is a chest infection. And good news, I have woken up this morning without a fever, phew! My chest is much worse, almost choked from coughing so much a few minutes ago...hehehe, but hopefully the antibiotics will kick in and it'll clear up.
So, hopefully on the road to recovery with little ____ (still haven't decided what nickname to give it) safe and sound!

Hey I had the same thing when I was about 7weeks with my son, I was really worried too and had been wanting to avoid panadol etc but reasoned the fever was more of a risk than the panadol, anyway I had it for a few days and my little boy is fine,

Thanks JaidevsMum, I agree, you have to weigh up the risks associated with everything. Sure, not keen on taking panadol and antibiotics, but probably better than having a fever and a raging chest infection for weeks.
Anyway, I'm on the mend now, :fingerscrossed: I get off these antibiotics and everything goes back to normal.
