Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone co sleeps with their baby and if so did the baby wake up through the night for a long time? I did for 6 months as there was only Caitlin and i in the bed, and i have recently just put her in her own cot. She sleeps ok in it but still wakes up in the night, i normally just give DD her dummy and she will go back to sleep. Is she just waking up cos she isn't in the bed with me and is she still getting use to being on her own, or could it be another reason as she was still waking up through the night in the bed with me? :p

Hi squirtle81.

She might still want to feed, that is normal around 6 months to still want night time boobie. You could try feeding her instead of the dummy? My children woke for feeds at night for a long time (not sure of the exact time as they were in bed with me and helped themselves) Have you looked into the sidecar set up with your cot as a transition if your not wanting to co-sleep anymore, that might help her get used to not being in your bed with you.

Goosie22,
What is the side car setup? Thanks for your advice i got told babies dont need feeding through the night once they reach 6 months but i guess all babies are different and mayb she is hungry.

Side carring is where you push the cot up hard against the bed, with the side taken off, so the baby has their own space, but is easily accessible to you for any night feeding.

From what I have read, it is actually quite important for a baby's wellbeing to be allowed to wake for night feeds for at least the first 12 months, and my 23 month old son still wakes once a night for a feed which is perfectly fine with me, as we co-sleep, him actually in bed with me, so it is not disruptive.

All the best!

I co-sleep because i put ds in his cot when he was first born and he only slept in it for no more than an hour and then would wake up. now depending on when he has his last feed he only wakes up for a feed between 2-6 and then usually goes back to sleep unless its 6 and then he stays awake. sometimes i even get a sleep in and he wakes up at 8 but that doesnt happen often. lol.

A question for ApprenticeMomma or Goosie re: the side car arrangment thing. (sorry Squirtle for hijacking your thread :o )

I have got our cot set up like this for when the baby comes, the drop-side will come off (if DH doesn't do it soon, I'll just do it myself:rolleyes: ) but our problem is we have a really really old double bed which is quite high off the ground. So the cot mattress is not level with our mattress. My DH suggested that we get a piece of foam cut to size, to put underneath the cot mattress. Would this be ok? I've heard that foam mattresses are not good because of the SIDS risk, but surely this arrangement would be ok if it's underneath the cot mattress?

Thanks for your words of wisdom ladies :)

I guess anything firm enough to keep the matress stable would be fine, and I'm sure foam under the matress itself would not pose any harm.
It is more what the baby is actually coming into contact with while laying there that is important.

We co-sleep, with the side car, so if its hot, I can put MJ in the cot but still right near me. She is 8months & feeds about 2-3 times between 8pm & 8am. Like Goosie, i dont even wake alot of the time, MJ helps herself :p
