My ds is lactose intolerant too. to switch him to soy (he hated it too) i started out giving him 1/4 soy, the rest normal formula, then after a couple of days 1/2 and 1/2 then a few days later 3/4 soy 1/4 formula with a teaspoon of milo (cos he could notice the difference) then all soy with milo.... then i slowly cut the milo down.... hes now on soy and loves it!

You can buy lactose free long life cows milk from most supermarkets. I tried this for my DS and it was very similar in taste to normal milk.

I use the Lactose free long life milk too - and my DS2 loves the Vaalia Lactose free yoghurts!
I guess you can just keep experimenting with Goats/Rice milk. The health food shop or the health food isle of the supermarket often have some options.
