DP & I would really like to have a big wedding with all our family & friends but the reality of it is that we would have to pay for it ourselves and we just cannot afford it, so basically we've been thinking of getting married overseas and having the honeymoon all in one. I've been looking on the net and Hawaii do lot's of different kinds of weddings packages...I just want to know if these sorts of things seem really cheap, chinsy and tacky? Has anyone done this sort of thing before or know of anyone who has???? All feedback will be appreciated  CHEERS

Ooooh nice!

My DH and I got married on the Coral Coast in Fiji and it was the best thing we ever did. We got married on day 3 of our holiday, and honeymooned there too. It was awesome and I highly recommend it.

We were intending to have a wedding in Sydney (where we lived at the time) with family and friends, but it was turning out to be so expensive and both my parents are dead and I didn't want it turning into a 'sad day', which I think it would have been, for me, without them there. So we just ran away ... LOL

We had a beautiful buffet breakfast, on the morning of our wedding, followed by a massage, a swim and a few cocktails at the pool bar. We were married at sunset, just before 5pm in a beautiful little thatched hut type restaurant on the beach, then we had more cocktails and watched the lighting of the torches (traditional ceremony), then had dinner (at the same little thatched hut type restaurant) with some friends of ours that came with us, and my MIL. A band played while we ate dinner. After dinner DH and I had another swim, then went off to enjoy each other ;) . The next morning we had breakfast on our balcony (eggs benedict, beautiful fruit, juices, toast). Totally awesome experience!

I say GO FOR IT! :yelclap:

I have never heard anything but good things about elopement packages. My friends got married in Fiji and they loved it.

We are thinking of doing the same.

I was talking to a girl who eloped and it was just her and her hubby and she said that only thing she would change is that she would have one of her girlfriends there to get ready with and have a glass of champers and giggle and be excited with and help her with her dress.

So thats something I will keep in mind.

Thanks ladies for your replies, it's helped me to feel better about our situation. I think we may just go ahead and get married over there...YIPPEE......now it's just the waiting game!
