Hi. I just got the 'good' news, that I have PUPPS. I am 34 weeks and started to get it a week or so ago. It started on my belly, and is already up my nech, down my arms and on my calves.
Has anyone had this, and ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Katie

A friend of mine had the severe pregnancy rash - I don't know what it was called but it was caused by a pregnancy-based liver disorder. She had to be watched carefully over the last few weeks of pregnancy due to related issues of the illness and ended up with an early elective C/S.
Keep an eye on it with the Doc if it's the same thing...;)
Hi,
I had the dreaded PUPPP from about 28 weeks when I was pregnant with my son (had it reoccur a couple of times from then until he was born and then it bloody well reappeared again on my boobs a couple of days after giving birth). The only thing that got rid of it was taking Cortisone tablets (called Panefcortolone) which was apparently fine for the baby (and must have been -I have a very happy, healthy son).My Ob. would start me on a high dose (50mg) and then titrate it down over a week or 2 until the rash was gone and it worked every time and was such a relief - that rash was so unpleasant (had a few sleepless nights in there and remember lying in baths of pinetarsil and trying to calm down the itching). The only topical treatment to give me any relief was to rub Mylanta liquid on the rash - it was so cooling and was the only thing that worked (strange but true). Good luck.

i have no idea what PUPPP is (sorry, i'm new to this, perhaps it is in the acronyms section?)... but i had a REALLY itchy rash thing in blotches on my tummy when I was pregnant, and I couldn't use moisturiser etc etc... I used Sigmacort ointment (1%?) which I believe has cortisone in it, which my doctor prescribed, and it cleared it up within a couple of days.
INTERESTINGLY when bubs was born she got oral thrush (at 5wks) and the medicos thought I had thrush on my nipples, so I started using Daktarin oral gel on them BAD MOVE I got a similar reaction to what I had on my tummy whilst pregnant (ie reaction to the Daktarin this time), so my nipples were itchy itchy itchy and it wasn't until I used the sigmacort ointment that it cleared it up...
GOOD LUCK!

Hi,
I have PUPPPS and I am 35 weeks. Yes, if its not heartburn, sleepless nights I now have to contend with this insane itching.
I am using Lucas Pawpaw cream, it seems to help, also I have been told that anything with camphor in it helps creatly, even yeast infection cream like canasten. Pinetarsol is another goood one (but a bit stinky) and good old calmine lotion (drys your skin though). I am afraid it is best to just go to the pharmacy and ask for everyting they have and try it :)
Oh yeah, cold washers helped me with a little lavender oil get some sleep at night.
Apparently we have to live through this until baby is born, its the only thing that will stop the rash :(
Goodluck and hope this was helpful

I had this too, so I know your pain!!! Mine was only on my stomach, hips and thighs though.
I found that pure Vitamin E oil was the only thing that helped me. It's a little pricey, but feels lush. And cool washcloths placed over the top.
Try some tea tree oil in your bath water too.
Good luck! :fingerscrossed:
Oh poor you :(
I did not have a rash but I got so itchy some days I could have screamed.
Have a luke warm bath in pintarsol(sp?)
I also used an oil specially for itchy skin when preggers(palmers brand I think)
Good luck with it

I have suffered from these bumps (PUPPS) also, and it almost drove me insane. I couldn't sleep and i was getting really cranky. I searched and searched the internet for solutions and i was beggining to feel like there was no hope til my baby was born. I tried all kinds of creams and also benadryl cream and it didn't work. Nothing the doctor's told me worked. Finally at night every 6-8 hours I would take Benadryl (50 mg) and I would keep applying Cortisone 10 Plus cream and within a couple of days the rash was under control and within a week the rash was gone.:smiliedance:
I have been itching for 4 days now. On my thighs mainly but up to my hips and down to my calfs. I now have like little dotty raised things all over me- should I get this checked out? I am 29 Weeks.

The last few weeks of my pregnancy i had a VERY itchy belly and when i told the doctor about it he said that rubbing baby oil on it will help the itchiness, so give that a go maybe. :hugs:

Hi, Ohmigosh, I had PUPPP and at first I couldn't find anything that actually worked, until I used a product called Pregnancy Rash and Acne Relief by Kopec Naturals. You can find them online, and boy was it a lifesaver. Within a week my itch was gone, bumps were gone, rash was gone. I have recommended it to my mom friends--and they were amazed with how fast the stuff worked too. Good luck.

Hi Kate,
PUPPPS is no fun. I got it at 37 weeks and the doc said it was the worst she had ever seen. I tried pretty much everything, and nothing really worked. Some things that helped a little were Gold Bond lotion, Aveeno anti-itch body wash and oatmeal baths. Eventually, I went on a steroid pill (prednizone??). The rash cleared a little, but was just as itchy. It dissapeared within 1 hour of delivering like magic, but it now reappearing at 2-3 weeks postpartum. I guess this is because I am breastfeeding?? It is much milder now, but I am also taking Nettle pills and drinking dandelion root tea (tastes like feet). This seems to help a little, apparently it helps the liver, but being itchy and having a newborn is a test...
I have had the best luck with the natural stuff. I hope you find some relief.

i had this bad as well :(
the one thing i found that worked was dandelion roots capsules.
i found it on the net that taking them would help and as i tried everything and i mean EVERYTHING out there i thought well why the hell not everything else sisnt work
and it worked!!
dandelion root capsules you can get from the health food shop
they saved my sanity!
being so itchy really put me off every having another bub.
i had so many blood tests done cause they though i had something wrong with my liver.
but at the end of the day the specialist just said it will go away when you have your bub!
PUPPPS is a horrible horrible thing
but do yourself a favour an get some dandelion root capsules!

I had PUPPPS. I had it at 20 weeks!! I was dreading the following 20, thinking I was going to be itching the whole time!
Thankfully it went away after 6 weeks. I stopped using everything on my skin and only used sorbolene.. for cleaning and as a moisturiser. It's the only thing that kept me sane for those 6 weeks. Also DO NOT SCRATCH IT. Seriously the more you scratch the worse it gets.
I was told not to use pintarsol as it will only make it drier and itch more.
Apparently they say you are more likely to have a boy if oyu have it, but I had a girl :)
I think i have this
It started off on my stomach and is so unbelievably itchy! And your right the more u scratch the itchier it gets! It looks really awul now, all red and raised.
I went to the hospital last night to get it checked out and they had never heard of PUPPS (I live in the UK) so they were no help. Last night it was itchy on my legs, arms, stomach and bum as well!!
It's driving me crazy!!!:hair:
