Hi there,
I am a sposie user but I have recently bought 1 Bumgenius AIO and 1 Monkey doodlez AIO to try out. The problem is they only seem to last about 1.5 hours and she is soaked thru her clothes.
I haven't been adding any extra liners.
DD is 9.5kgs and I have been using the medium size nappies.
Is this normal for a MCN to last only 1.5hrs? Should I be using a liner and if so what do I use?
Do you think the nappy is too small for her? The wee comes out the top where her belly button is, so maybe I need to get the 'long rise' nappies?
Any advice is appreciated...........

I think I may have answered my own question!!!
I only washed my new MCN's once before I used them. I just read in one of the sticky threads you're supposed to wash them 3 times before use. Could that be my problem???
Most probably! I think it may also depend on how much of a wetter your bub is. I can't trust AIOs as much as I do fitteds. I also boost a lot as my bub is a big wetter.

Thats why I like pocket nappies because you can tailor them to fit your bub's needs. If you have a heavy wetter AIO don't seem to have the absorbency because otherwise they would take forever to dry.
Maybe try a pocket nappy with a hemp insert and a microfibre booster, that might be better for your bub
i have both the nappies you mention and my son is a big wee-er. i agree the monkeydoodlez last about 1.5 hours (do you have micro or original?) but the bumgenius lasts 2+ hours for us...

The problem should not be that you only washed them once as both those nappies are man-made materials and do not need the pre-washes to increase their absorbancy the way that hemp does. I have both bumGenius AIOs and the bumGenius pockets, and I have exactly the same problem as you with the AIO: I can't get it to last more than 1.5 hrs and it leaks OFTEN, even after that long. I do not have this problem with the pocket version, and can trust it for 3 or more hours if I have to, and rarely get leaks! I have come to the conclusion that AIOs are just not absorbant enough and now I use pockets all the time. As other people have said, try pockets or fitteds (I have not tried fitteds but LOOVE pockets!). I swear by Haute pockets and bumGenius pockets.

Hmmmm - maybe I have bought the wrong nappies:thumbsdown:.
mum of kieran - what do you use in your bumgenius pockets? I mean, what type of booster (if that's the correct term). And how many layers do you use? Sorry - I am such a newbie at this.

I am pretty new to it myself, but you learn fast when you become as obsessed with cloth nappies as I have become!! At first I was keen for all in ones and nothing else, as I was a real disposable addict and wanted something as close as possible to them! But I quickly discovered that there are so many better options out there and I actually enjoy sitting down and stuffing a whole pile of clean nappies!! In the bumGenius pockets I just use the microfibre insert that comes with the nappy, and if using the nappy overnight I use two of the inserts at once.

If your bub is filling an AIO pretty fast then I'd recommened a pocket nappy with a hemp and microfibre insert basically up to 8 layers of hemp or microfibre in the nappy, that should last longer and keep bub's dryer

Your nappies will also leak if you use oily creams such as Sudocrem or zinc/castor oil creams and lotions. They 'block up' the nappy inner because they don't wash out very well, and make the nappy repel wee. That's one of the things that I think of when nappies leak out the top like that (I know you got that sorted though).
I'm another that's a fan of pockets over AIOs. But I have heavy wetters. A pocket actually is no different to an AIO once it has been stuffed- it's like an AIO that needs the absorbant stuff added in. Makes for quicker drying and you can customise how much stuffing you need.
BumGenius pockets are nice IMO, I have them, they come with a nice thick microfiber insert. It's the same insert that is already sewn into the BumGenius AIO. I always use it with hemp in there too- with the hemp underneath the microfiber, iykwim (ie- the microfiber on top, inside the pocket).
I like Hemparoo's that are sold at the Green Kids site (Green Kids are another great one-size pocket nappy) and they have other hemp inserts there too.

you could try a very baby - they come in medium longs - try the ww site - they have the medium longs ..and they are aio with the bamboo - pm me ifyou want to know more - i think they are ace ...
they easily last us 3 hours or more ...
