I have been using OPK's pretty much every day for the last month and got excited on Friday when I got a double line. But it was a very faint double line, and the pamphlet inside the OPK pack says that a faint line is a negative; only when the test line is the same colour or stronger than the control line is it a positive.

Well, the last 3 days I have had double lines, but they are all faint. Let me re-word - they're not faint, you dont have to squint to see them - but they're not quite as strong as the test line.

What do you make of this?

Perhaps I should just get a maybe baby...

The test line is supposed to be stronger than the control line for it to be positive.
I was initially confused by whether they were positive or not, until it was actually positive and it was obvious.
I only used them for 2 cycles and each time there was a gradual change over 3 or 4 days.
Good luck.:)

Hi Ally84- I was also wanting to know the answer to this i have been test for the last two months with the OPK's and my line's have never been as dark as the other but i have had all the sign's of O.
So to put a ease to my mind i went to the doctor's and told him about the result and now i have had a blood test that show if you had O that month it needs to be done on day 21 of your cycle.
So i will find out tomorrow and will post about it tomorrow will be interesting to see if i did O than i will know these OPK's aren't all cracked up to be.
I have spoken with a few ladies and they never got the same colour line and it was always showed lighter and now are PG from this so i to don't know how great they are with telling if your O.
So if i did O this month and the blood test show this well than the OPK must not alway have to be the same colour line.

The last 2 times I fell pg I used an OPK and am familiar with the strong double line - that was how I conceived.

What is really confusing me though is that the test line is gradually getting darker. Over the last 3 days. Where LAST time it got lighter and lighter as the days progressed AFTER O.

Let us know how your test goes at the dr.

Hi Ally,
Have you been using them once or twice a day? I ask because on mine they say if you get a faint positive in the afternoon then test later at night and see if the test line gets darker.

Some months you may not be oing. Your body may be releasing a little of LH and that is what the test is picking up but not releasing enough to release the egg hence the test line isn't getting darker.

Wendy's onto something about going to the Dr to get a blood test to see when and if she is oing. That may be an option for you.

good luck and hope you find the answer.

It could also be the time of day your testing, just remember the instructions go off what is for the 'average' woman and we're not all average...lol..
Here is an interisting bit of info for you showing the different surge times in a study.

Results of the data gathered revealed that the LH surge began (in the blood):

Between 12:00 and 3:59 AM in 36.7 percent of the cycles
Between 4:00 and 7:59 AM in 48.4 percent of the cycles
Between 8:00 and 11:59 AM in 7.1 percent of the cycles
Between 12:00 and 3:59 PM in 1.9 percent of the cycles
Between 4:00 and 7:59 PM in 3.2 percent of the cycles, and
Between 8:00 and 11:59 PM in 2.5 percent of the cycles

Because it takes about six hours for a serum LH surge to be reflected in the urine, these results suggest that, in 85% of women with normal ovulation, the initial detectable urinary LH surge will fall somewhere between 6:00 AM (12:00 AM plus six hours) and 1:59 PM (7:59 AM plus six hours). These results may thus help women to further pinpoint the exact timing of the LH surge and subsequent ovulation.

From: http://www.inciid.org/fertinews/lhsurgetiming.html

I myself have had surges at midnight and also VERY ealry in the am (as in FMU) where if I had tested at the recomended times I would have missed the surge.

Wow that's great to know. Thanks for the info. On my instructions they say to test between 2pm and 8pm, and have no drinks for 2 hours beforehand. I might start testing a little earlier.
Great info

Wow! That is fantastic! Thanks for that Mumof4! Your so knowledgable

I normally test as soon as I get home from work, at about 5:30pm/6pm. The pack that I have says not to test first thing in the morning (1st urine), as it could show a false positive. So I used the 2nd urine and I got a strong positive and that was just a few days ago.

Hmm - guess we will find out in TWW!!!

I hope the TWW goes fast for you Ally and that the timing was perfect:)

I've never used OPK's before but I'm thinking about using them next cycle (AF due thursday:mad: )

I was wondering if they give you any indication that you are about to ovulate, as in a day or so before, or is it only the day of ovulation??

Thanks
Denise xx
