I just wanted to know if anyone else still wraps their baby to go to sleep. Taiya is 6 months old now. I stopped wrapping her at 2.5 months and then started it again at 4 months.
The only way I can get her to go to sleep is to breastfeed her (whioch is now no good as she is going to childcare next week) or wrap her.
Does anyone have any suggestions??? If I dont wrap her she just rolls and flips around in her cot until she gets stuck and screams.

Hi There,
I still wrap my 7 month old as if i don't she will pull her self up on her cot and will not go to sleep on her own. I find if i wrap her she knows it is sleep time, but sometimes she unwraps herself. I also want to know how to stop wrapping babies as i won't be able to wrap her for ever and she needs to learn to go to sleep on her own.
I wrapped Alana until she was 10 months old and she unwrapped herself. Once she learnt to sit up and move extensively I started to half wrap her ... ie left arms out of the wrap and just wrapped it tight around her tummy so she still had the security of it without the complication of getting off her bottom half but not from around her neck ...
Then when she was around the 10 month mark I started putting it loosely around her, and then just putting it over the top of her (instead of her sheet) and then by the time she was 1 she didn't need it at all. Its up to the individual child but I know a few people who have the child's "wrap" as their top sheet on the cot until they are around 2 yrs old.
Hey Renee
Good to see you both last week - hope to see you again soon :)
Some of the girls in my Mums group were talking about this today and apparently a few of them have found sleeping bags to be a great 'replacement' for wrapping. I think you can buy 1.0 tog ones for the summer so they won't over heat Taiya. I think because the bubs legs are enclosed they find it a bit more tricky to be acrobats!
Maybe worth a try?

I wrapped DD till she was 8months old she was a very colicy baby and was unsettled all the time.I done what eleanor done and slowly got her used to being unwrapped took arms out first and then loosened it she now sleeps through the night without a wrap.Goodluck with trying to get her out of it.In summer what i done was just wrap bub in a sheet and have little clothes on as possible so she dosnt overheat.
DS was wrapped for a looong time - till he about 9-10 months old. We transferred to a GroBag and have never looked back - he was a little unsure/unsettled the first night in it - but now takes to it like water off a ducks back :)
Might be woth a try and you can cheaper versions of the grobag also from Babies Galore - although they are more for summer.

I wrapped yds until he was about 10 months.
He was also very colicy and unsettled and we found it calmed him down a lot. Once he started wriggling out of the wrap i stopped.
Hi,
We wrapped our bub for about 6 months, then did the looser, looser and finally all off method. At the same time, we also started putting in a comforter/soft bunny toy thing in the bed with him and he adopted that as his way of going off to sleep. Now we just have to show him his bunny toy and he grabs it, puts his thumb in his mouth and plops off to sleep on his own! It's worked wonderfully for us.
Good luck!

My DS is 8 months old and is still wrapped and I can't really see and end in sight... He has been really unsettled the last few weeks due to teething, so not ready to try getting him to sleep without it... I say go with what is working for you and bubs...

DS1 was wrapped until he was about 9mths old and by that stage he was quite happy to be wrapped to go to sleep, but wiggled his way out during the night.
Then some nights he was wrapped and other's he wasn't, so I guess we slowly phased it out (taking cues from him).
One of my friends wrapped her DS till he was 12mths old, I remember babysitting him one night and having to wrap him in a single bed sheet (not the easiest task)!

We also gave up wrapping and went back to it in an attempt to get my DS to sleep. The wrap (plus a very dark room and routine) seems to have done the trick. I have tried easing him off it but he suddenly reverts back to 20min sleeps.
We actually use an odd looking wrap that has been very effective at preventing wrap escapology (which also reverts us back to 20min sleeps) the Wonder Wrap. It has a separate section for arms that folds under them so Rhys can reach his arm to his mouth but not pull the wrap over his face or fling his arm about outside the wrap. Because he is old enough to roll we also use a Safety Wrap that velcroes snugly around him and keeps him in place during the night.
I know it sounds a bit like we're monsters who put him in a straight jacket, but the poor little poppet was so tired and sleep deprived that we figured anything that helps him to go to and stay asleep was worth trying. He may miss out on moving around the cot but he doesn't know any different and he sleeps fairly happily most times now. Eventually we will wean him off it but he's safe and happy so I'm not in any hurry.

I wrapped my little boy who turns 6 months old tomorrow every single sleep since he was born, then we've just had a huge heat wave & I have no airconditioning so wrapping was out of the question, i was convinced he'd have a terrible night, but has worked out ok, he used to throw his arms around more when he was younger, I think they outgrow this. He kicks his legs a lot & I cant keep a sheet or blanket on so last night was cooler & I put him in a sleeping bag, I really think that is going to be the way to go. Do you bottle feed Taiya at all ? I too can only get Max to go to sleep by breastfeeding, I'm now really worried as I start a course in 8 weeks time two nights a week, and at this stage I am the only person who can get him to sleep, I have just bought formula to see if I can get him to take it, he will not take expressed milk.
