DS~
began weaning at 10mths
I said at the time it was be cause he was a big baby and I was starting to get uncomfy with the whole thing
But truth be told I never liked bfing my son and was desperate to stop from the word go
DD~
I hope to exclusively bf till shes at least 6-8mths old and hopefully continue bfing until 12mths maybe longer depending on how we both feel
I love bfing her!
Time to stop? yes I have my views on this and for me personally I think around 15-16mths is an age were I would be happy to stop bfing at BUT I have no judgement on what others choose to do
Its up to every mother/family/child to make that decision

In theory, I believe that the ideal time to wean is when the baby/toddler wants to stop (ie self-weans).
In practice, it was a tad different with me. I stopped at 12 months because of my own health issues. I basically chose weaning and going onto The Pill (which dried up my supply of bm) over taking other medication (non-hormonal) to try and control a situation that I believe is hormone-related.
It basically just got to the point where I went against what I had believed in for some time, and chose something different to what I always thought I would.
No regrets though.
It would have been nice feeding her now that she's getting older though... I wonder what she would haved called my boobies or breastmilk
Feed as long as you want- as baby grows older it is still just as good for them!

Before I started breastfeeding I would have said no longer than 6 months. I'm still feeding my 2yr old though, so have to say that its up to the mother & child. Only they can say when enough is enough.

I stopped FAR FAR too early... with my next child I'll be aiming for around 2... if they self-wean first then no biggie... but I'm not going to wean until then. I'll see how I feel AFTER that...
The main reason I'd like to go to 2 is because breastmilk can be great when bubs are sick. DD has been sick a few times, and hasn't been able to eat much... if only she was breastfed I'm sure she might have been able to get better quicker... and at least it would ease my mind knowing that she's at least getting SOME goodness. After 2 there are cold and flu medications and stuff on offer, but not much BEFORE 2...
Actually, ideally, I'd never run out of breastmilk no matter how much I fed. I always think, "OMG WHAT IF THERE WAS SOME WEIRD NATURAL DISASTER AND I COULDN'T FIND FOOD!" I then think, "Ahhh... breastmilk... ":p

#2 12 months
#3 so far 9 1/2 months but plan on stopping at 12 months.

DD - started to wean at about 10months - she was very fussy & feeding had become too stressful. I finally gave in & gev her her last morning feed a few weeks before she turned 1.
DS - still going at 11weeks. I am hoping since he is a boy he will be a boob man (everyone tells me boys are like this - lol) and we will continue at least until he is 18months & i return to work. If we are both still happy at that stage - maybe a morning & night feed for longer. Depends on how we both feel at the time.
I don't think there is an age limit specifically that you should stop - but the link that was on the hub the other day of a woman b/f her 8yr old was too much for me.

Uhh... I haven't stopped  I'm currently feeding my nearly 8 month old & 2 year old. I believe the best age to 'stop' is when mother and bub want to! I'm not going to stop until my children self wean... unless they are like.. 40 and still feeding
DD self weaned around 19mths.
I think its up to the mother, as to how long she breastfeeds for, as long as she and bubs are happy. There is something a little weird about school age kids still having bitty imo.

My girl, breast refusal after facial surgery at 4 months :(
My boy will be 14 months next week, we're still happily going
Child-led weaning here, too :D
My first son was 13 months. 2nd son is now 12 months and it looks like we will be going for a long time yet - he only wants boobie, refuses to drink any other milk from a cup yet seems to have no problems eating his cereal with cows milk! I think they get a lot of comfort out of breast feeding.

my darling jj gave up his "boo" when he was 17mths. i was pregnant with oj and was happly contemplating tandem feeding both babies (got heaps of info from aba) he just got up one morning for his morning snuggle :hugs: and feed, and he just said "no boo ma". i was really upset :crying: i wasn't ready to give it up but he was. so they will give it up when they are ready.
i am still feeding oj and hope he does the same and just gives it u when hes ready to.:fingerscrossed:
so do what feels right for you and your baby. and only both of you will know when your ready.
best of luck

That is exactly what our situation is. DS is the same age and wont drink milk from his cup but has it in cereal etc I will just wait until he weans himself or our situation changes for some reason. :)
