Just curious how many families dont get family payments, is it because of a high income or another reason.I receive family tax benefit payments for some of my kids , but at a reduced rate because of my husbands income, and also we dont get any other payments from centrelink, not even a health care card. Are there any similar stories.

I am the same. We just get the Fam Tax thing and we opt to have it paid at end of fin yr so we don't get overpaid. My DH has gott a few pay rises over the last year so I think ours is reduced a bit nad we don't get any childcare benefit anymore....It annoys me tho, coz we still don't earn that much....still some is better than none!

Coz my dh is a taxi driver its like being self imployed. we are entitled, but the paper work to get just a little bit of money  its about 1-2 inches thick and then if u dont want to just declair at the end of the financial year u have to call them every week and report on earnings. Its just too much work so we decided not to bother with it and we're not living on the street so i think we're doing ok without it.

If dh ever gets a new job that pays a set wage ill deffinatly be looking into it

We get about 60-80 a fortnight i am the only one working and earn about 60k a year but after my profit loss i am on about 45k if that makes sense we dont get a HCC or anything though

I wonder how they work it apparently i am just at the point of not being entitled to one....i would have to say i thought you would get one seeing you have so many kidlets :D

Hi punkbaby, i thought that i would get a health card also but i have been told no....my situation is a little tricky,my hubby's income is above 50k if you add overtime in to the mix his income goes way up,and we have several assets that they have taken in to account, but we still get around $100 per fortnight for the younger kids, which is good,it all usually goes on food anyway.... and toilet paper:laughing:

DH and I will be entitled to the FTB part B of $120 a fortnight whilst I am maternity leave. There is currently no income or asset tests/limits on the payment!

We are in a similar situation. We get something like $60/fortnight - as I managed to earn a whole $5,000 last year.... WHIPEE..... ;) We pay out a HUGE AMOUNT 9as you'd know) as we aren't entitled to a cent more from the government.... I get annoyed at times - as we aren't 'RICH' - and the complete cost of things can be ridiculous. You would know what i mean having several children, I only have 1..... So you are far from alone with this financial annoyance... :)

We get FTB part a and b but that's it. I wish we were entitled to a HCC, it's hard looking after 4 kids on one income. DS1 has his own HCC, but he is the only one in the family who has never been sick in his life. :banghead:

We are not entitled to any FTB A or B because DH earns too much. I think it is rubbish... I am a SAHM and DH doesnt earn that much!

He is self-employed though so I guess we might get something back at tax time?

My DH is selfemployed, I am on maternity leave from my job (wonderful employer has 2yrs mat leave so am on my 2nd consecutive lot of leave) plus earn a small amount from the business as a director - we don't even bother asking about family payments. It is all too hard to try and estimate what our incomes will be for the financial year and what a pain if you had to pay it back!!

Our accountant did our taxes in March for last year and then he claimed whatever he could for family payments - that way you are safe and don't have to pay it back. I ended up getting $1400 for the whole year.

My DP earns just over 50k and we get about $500 a fortnight for my 2 kids from a previous relationship(they live with us full time) and for our bub and also a little bit for DSD because we have her when DP is home. That $500 is FTB A and B and also rent assistance and large family supplement.

But then we also pay like $400 a month in child support to DPs ex.

Moneyfelix, if you are a SAHM and not earning anything during the financial year, you should get FTB part B regardless of hubby's income. I'm a SAHM and get the full rate of part B no matter what DH earns. You should check into it

When I was working and we only had DD we only got $40 a fortnight. And I don't earn HUGE money, neither does DH.

Now that we have two kids if I don't work I'll get $800 a fortnight based on what DH makes alone (which isn't much). That will be FTBA, FTBB, Rent Assistance and parenting payment.

It's totally not worth it for me to work now. I'll have to pay for two kids in childcare where as if I stay home and raise them we can get by. Crazy.

I went in a while ago (a couple years) to enquire about a HCC as I wasn't working at the time and I think they said if you earn over $55 or $65K per year between you thats too much. That also takes into account income from Investments. So even though me and DH didn't earn that much in our hand because we earnt money from Investment property (even though all the rent plus some went on the mortgage) we weren't entitled to zip!

Exactly! There is no income or asset test for FTB part B. The only requirement is that your are a one income household. Your husband could earn $500,000 in addition to owning millions in investment property and your would still be entitled!

A lot of people that run their own business are partners on the paper work and it is written up that they recieve a wage. This could be why! You would have to remove yourself from being a partner of the business. My sil has had everything cut from centre link and she is a sahm but the business is doing really well even though she doesn't get any extra they cut her!
