I thought to help mums-to-be and new mums who are thinking about cloth nappies to have a section where you can review any cloth nappy, covers or soakers. This can include ones that you have used for ages or a new one on the market.
My turn first.
I have recently tested for this new WAHM and loved the nappy. It's from the itty bitty nappy co. You can find them at www.ittibitti.net/ The nappies have a trim crotch which makes it great for children who are just starting to walk, have problems walking, small babies, or for mums who don't like the big look that can sometimes come with other cloth nappies.
The nappy is very abosorbant and comes in a great range of fabrics. Some fabrics I've never seen nappies made out of before, such as cord!!!!
Sue is very helpful and very knowledgable on cloth nappies. She loves what she does and wants to see more bubs in cloth.
So if you want to help a new WAHM check out Sue's site.
(PS I haven't received any financial incentive from Sue to write this review, just love the nappy!!!!!!!:))
Who else would like to review a nappy, cover or soaker.

I use the nappies that you put the hemp inside. The nappies are really absorbant and i have never had a leak. They are so easy to use and wash, Just put the layer of hemp in and i also put a nappy liner in and the velcro holds the nappies together so there is no need for pins or snappys. They are a really great idea.

I'm looking at changing my DS into cloth nappies but I've been looking at a package deal sort of thing and have only found 2 brands with those. If anyone knows of any with package deals please let me know. But i might get some of those itti bitti ones

You can get packages from www.babybeehinds.com.au I got a package that had a baby beehind plush comfort, a hemp honey and a PUL cover for about $55 really good value, actually thinking of getting more.
Squirtle81 what's the name of your pocket nappy. Just if anyone else wants to have a look they know the name. There are quite a few pocket nappies and all have differing features so it's good to know which one you are using and love so much.
I use two types so far
Pocket nappies by Peenuts
Pocket nappies are where a pad or prefold gets put inside a fitted style nappy that has two layers (PUL outer and microfleece or suedecloth inner). The are like an all in one but a lot quicker to dry. You don't put a cover over most pockets.
Peenuts are fantastic - no leaks and very cute and quite trim.
I also use a Hemp fitted by a local lady called Fay (I think her nappys are called Granny Jens). The Hemp fitted has a polar fleece outer and I don't use a cover over it either (seems to be fine with out one) . This nappy very absorbant too and it's super cuddly and cute. It does take a lot longer to dry than a pocket with a prefold though.
Hi,
any ideas on what nappy best absorbs.
Jen where do you get your hemp ones from and how much are they please?
Debster
For good quality, well rated hemp nappies, try www.babybeehinds.com.au (http://www.babybeehinds.com.au) or http://www.ericanappies.com.au/store/ amongst others. These are just two of my favourites especially the Erica Nappies. They are expensive but you are paying for quality. To help with the wet feeling, do you use fleece liners? I find the Erica Nappies with the velour inner also helps (although still use microfleece liners with them too).
Debster, how old is your little one? How long does he normally sleep? And does he still do explosive, runny poos?

I have invested in some babybeehinds and have never had a leak even overnight. They are one of the best hemp nappies going around.
Have you thought of pocket nappies, that way you can boost the nappy to the absorbancy that you need????
Re - the cheeky butts - I haven't heard anything good either so I'm steering well clear too.

Great idea to review the different nappies girls! I can recommend cheap brand nappy soaker - exactly the same stuff as napisan for a bargain price - brilliant! :)

Should have added that Fluffies brand pilchers are great with terry squares - nice soft elastic and nice patterns and not as sticky in hot weather as the plain plastic ones (and cheap - that's a recurring theme in our house :p ).

I decided to buy the baby beehinds prefold nappies along with the liners and cloth wipes. Has anyone tried that brand of prefolds before? would love to know how good they are.

If they are as good as their hemp honeys or plush comforts (both a which I have and love) then they will be fantastic.
Have fun with your new purchases. Are you addicated yet????? LOL
ooh I Know I am -- I've already placed two more orders for pocket nappies with sandras stuffables and Fruit salad nappies. :p so I'll be reviewing both of those when they arrive. I wish that fitteds, pockets and AIO's had been around 7 years ago when I had my first bub !

I'm in love with one of Sandra's nappies, just have to justify to myself buying it, after buying 5 nappies this week already. mmmmmm if I have any money left over on Tues might have to.....
Fruit salad is one I have ordered. Brooke (Fruit Salad) and Sandra both live in my town and I see them regularly, they are both wonderful women who are doing a great job in the cloth/wahm community. You'll love them, but still would love to read your review on them.
Anyone else got any new nappies recently and want to review them? When posting your review, trying telling us what you like about the nappy, whether it's absorbant for your bubs needs, reasonablly priced, customer service or anything else you think others should know about the nappy.

A friend of mine makes the pocket nappies and sells them on ebay starting them at $15 for the nappy and $5.50 for the hemp, but i got them for $10 and $5 for hemp so if anyone is interested her seller id on ebay is leosipos and if you like them and are still interested let me know and ill see if i can get them cheaper for you.
She doesn't have any patterned material ones just plain assorted colours.
RE Fruit salad nappies
I didn't want care bears etc either but she will make to order http://www.fruitsaladnappies.com/store/piclink.asp?pageID=OuterLayers
Those are the other fabric choices she has -- I know there is a wait though at the moment for her to make them up.
Just send an email and ask if you are interested - thats what I did :D
Sandras stuffables also has a wait time at the moment - From what I can gather they have all had kids home during the summer holidays and will have their nappy making time back once school starts ;)

Rhoxie - Oooo now see your going to get me in even more trouble LOL ! Will have to work out what i want tomorrow & email her & Sandra ! I know about Sandra as i have been emailing her of late as i was eager to know when she was re-opening hehe so she was lovely & told me straight away ! So now i shall have to make my order heheh

Ok i love love LOVE ! Greens Nappies they are just great & i love how soft the dreamytimes are shame they are now discontinued :(
They are so great i am ordering another 6 & will then be waiting til mid Feb to order some fruit salad & Sandras !
squirtle81 - I tried out your friends nappies & they are pretty good i must say but i only used one out of the two i got so will see how the other goes tomorrow i only had one drama besides the drying time & that was bubs wriggled about in his cot before his morning nap & i didnt realise he managed to tuck his singlet into the nappy LOL ! So its wicked rather nicely at the side heheheh ! But considering the whole thing was tucked in to have it only wick on one side in a patch is pretty good heheheh. My only other thing with them is they feel more plastic like compared to the Greens which for summer is a bit icky IYKWIM otherwise im pretty happy with them especially her hemp inserts as they are so cheap !

Ally,
Glad to hear you love the Dreamtimes worked for you. Harry spent last night in his and no leaks. I'm ordering from Sandra tomorrow. I have wanted one of her's for ages but she closed her shop and moved to my town before I could order some. But tomorrows the day....how sad am I??????
Brooke is great at Fruit Salad, her nappies are very trim and great for skinny bubs.
If you are interested I haev made my own hemp boosters by buying the hemp from Gab at http://bubbaearth.com.au/ then cutting it up into the size I want and then just sewing the edges. I'm not a sewer but even I managed to sew the edges up. I got 2m of hemp fleece and made I think about 12 boosters. This saved me heaps of $$$$$ too.
Now you can get addicated to wool soakers. I use them now at night instead of PUL covers and they are great. I have knitted 2 already in a very easy pattern and about to start a more complex pattern. Hopefully today. Let me know if you what the sites for these or just visit nappycino for more info.

I have a wide variety of pocket and fitted nappies...my fave have to be the baby beehinds hemp, because they are just so absorbent...i boost these too breaking point :) for night times.
jarrah usually wears a homemade fitted lined with hemp during the day covered with a knitted wool soaker. (try possum pouches..great service and quality)
best pockets I have used would be the green night times and sandra's Stuffables...though they are all pretty great.
yay for clothies!!!

Mmmm...my favourite nappies are Tots Bots Bamboozles!!! I was a real fan of the original Tots Bots cotton nappy, and then the bamboo towelling range came along!!! All the good things about a Tots nappy, plus a trimmer fit, silky silky fabric and greater absorbency.
For night I love our Bumhuggers from Ella's house, topped with a wool cover. They're a brilliant night nappy, not requiring bulky boosting, and lined with the softest fleece inside. Both nappies were recomended to me at http://www.nurturenappies.com.au ; the lady there has a wonderful range and great advice!
Oh I love this thread. I have a pile of lovely cloth nappies but it will be another 12 weeks or so before I have a little bum to put them on! :p
Me too Cosmic, i got 2 baby beehinds last week and they seem so bulky and weigh alot. Does anyone think this will be a problem, also people have said to be that you can't put baby in a carseat with a cloth nappy because if there is an accident the extra bulk will hurt bubs back, is this true, it sort of sounds like crap to me.

I've read that it's a DOUBLE nappy that's dangerous (ie night-time type). I hope that's right because my DD travels in cloth all the time :)
also people have said to be that you can't put baby in a carseat with a cloth nappy because if there is an accident the extra bulk will hurt bubs back
I have contacted Kidsafe about this and they knew nothing about it. The Kidsafe person I spoke to was really helpful and offered to do some research and get back to me. When he called me back, he said that from their info, there is no evidence to support this theory. A super thick double nappy (thinking two folded flat terries) may pose a problem but that would be more from having bub sitting too high and the straps not being appropriate if the seat was normally used with a thinner nappy.
This was about 2-3 years ago (when I was pregnant with DS) so if you are concerned, give them a call for yourself.
thanks Lucy for letting me know :)
Mel I know what you mean about the baby beehinds seeming bulky... but someone else told me it makes the baby easier to hang onto. :D

Oh Cosmic that person must be a very wise cloth nappy user
I have mainly used Baby Beehinds and I don't think that they are bulky at all. It might depend on how you use the booster inside as to where the bulk goes. Any sort of cloth nappy compared to a disposable is a lot heavier
Personally I think the pocket nappies are a bit bulkier.
As long as your bub is in the restraint properly I don't see how it would cause a problem?
Also whilst I am here, is it only me or is it a waste buying pretty cloth nappies that need a cover over them? You can't show them off with a cover.

Ok as someone who has been converted to cloth :p I love them. Ok I only use Terry towelling or flannalette flats, not the fancy ones (oh how I wish i could). It does make it easier to hold bub. MJ is only a light weight with a little bum in a sposie, but in a cloth nappy there is something there to hold onto. Also adds weight so we dont get told how light she is anymore :D

Hi all,
I just wanted to give a review on the new bamboozles by tots bots.
They are fantastic!!
They are HEAPS more absorbant than the terry nappies and a lot trimmer too.
They are also really soft and silky.
Tots bots should be paying me advertising money....lol ( they are NOT by the way!)

Got my baby beehinds plush prefolds in the mail yesterday. Washed them last night and used them today. They are so good. A bit bulky and lucas needs to get used to that because he tried getting up on all fours today but the nappy was way too bulky for him to do it properlly. lol. But they're really good.

Wow. I thought I was the only person who would be going crazy over cloth nappies. We had a friend come down to Newcastle from Brisbane for our DD's Christening and we took her out for breakfast. Guess what I ended up talking about? Cloth nappies!!!!:o She must have thought I was crazy!!!
I'm a bit eclectic with the cloth nappies. I use the terry squares (hurrah for whoever invented the snappy :D ) but I have also bought some great nappies from www.cherubskiss.com Lesley Fletcher is the lady who runs it, and she gets five stars from me for both the nappy and the customer service.
She makes HoneyBoy! AIO nappies which have a fleece outer. They also have really cute flannel prints on the inside and matching tabs on the outside. The benefit of the fleece outer is that it doesn't absorb water, and is soft and breathable. The only thing you have to be careful of is that if the nappy gets too wet, moisture will wick through to the clothes. I have had this happen once or twice when bubs has had a big sleep (like three hours) during the day after a big feed, but they're so cute and convenient. You can get matching boosters to increase the absorbancy of the nappy for night time, although I haven't tried these yet so can't comment on wicking issue etc.
I have another parcel arriving any day now and I can't wait...
Have also tried Baby BeeHinds Hemp nappy, which is very good. My only complaint is that I don't like the smell of hemp when it's damp. At least, I find that the nappies with hemp seem to smell a bit more pungent - does anyone else find this?
Cloth nappies are definitely something you can get addicted to!

I find hemp to have a slight smell that cotton doesn't but it's only pretty faint. Are you using vinegar in your wash routine or has there been a detergent build up because they can cause smells.

I have heard people talk about vinegar, but I haven't used it myself. How do I use it for washing the nappies? Do I just add it to the wash or is there another way?
I do also seem to recall reading somewhere that you have to be careful about using it with some things. Was it maybe PUL covers? Does it wear down the water resistance or something?
Thanks.
There are lots of different opinions on the use or not of vinegar. Some people add it to the fabric softener compartment so that it goes through the final rinse. I found this worked well on my towels and sheets (pre baby days) when we were on rain water which is very 'soft'. Since moving to bore water which is incredibly 'hard', that method doesn't work for us. It produces a horrible acrid smell when the vinegar reacts to the minerals in the water.
I've found adding it to the prerinse works well because it does it's thing (neutralising the ammonia in urine or whatever) but is then completely washed out in the normal wash cycle so I have loverly sweet smelling nappies. This also avoids the problems of prolonged contact between the vinegar and PUL because vinegar can deteriorate PUL but I'm guessing that it would take a lot of exposure for that to occur. I don't use vinegar often though...maybe once every few months when my PUL pockets start to smell.
Rinsing well is the most important part of washing nappies. Because the fabricis so absorbant, they really hold onto the detergent. I've heard of a lady who washed her Tots in clear water for 4 cycles and it was still sudsy.

Thanks LucyE - I think I might give it a go. Have noticed some of my fitted cloth nappies have been a bit on the stiff side when I've brought them in from the line lately, but that could also be because we've had such hot days here. I read somewhere recently that quick line drying can make them a bit stiff.
You certainly seem to know your nappy business! Thanks for the help.

I've been looking at all the fitted cloth nappies on the internet and they all seem a little bit pricy. most around 25 dollars a nappy.
While i was at target the other day i found, in the fluffies brand, some fitted terry nappies. These were only$7 so i though why not give them a go. I bought 4 of them and they are fantastic. DS is a heavy wetter and went through the baby beehinds prefolds between 1 and 2 hours. The terry fitted's i can change every 3 hours. 'm going to buy more next week.
Hi,
I have brought and used a range of nappies and loved the cheekybutts pocket nappy it was just great. We brought 7 while on holidays at a baby expo on the sunshine coast last year. It was good to find a pocket that had a booster that didnt get all scrunched up. It was also suprisingly trim in the crotch area, yet had great bottom coverage.
We use these when we go out as they are easy to use and compact in fit. They are also great for daycare.
We also have a sandra stuffables and another pocket from a wahm we brought off ebay but cant remember the name as it doesnt have a label.
For fitteds we have a baby beehinds that hubby hates and he reckons he needs a manual to fold it, and it doesnt quite fit right on our boy, too wide in the crotch, and the hemp went hard and scratchy.
We also have a swaddlebees and a poochies that re imported, they are ok but the swaddlebees leaked, dont know if it is because it was 1mil PUL? or we didnt stuff it right.
Very baby fitted nappy that seemed wide in the crotch and a bit bulky but works fine. and has a soft velour inner.
He is nearly ready for toliet training so we will be looking for pants for that soon.

Just a quick comment on this... I have heard from lots of people that the fluffies nappies are full of synthtic wadding that eventually gets very smelly. While they are cheap cost-wise, I understand they are cheap quality as well. The more expensive nappies ($25 is pretty average) tend to be made incredibly well, of high quality fabrics, outlast disposables and terry squares and wear well. While I am sure they work for some people, particularly for short periods of time, having a few high quality nappies is what will get you through the night.
Pre-folds aren't really comparable with fitted nappies though, they are more like boosted terry squares and should probably be considered as an alternative in relation to those. You can always boost the pre-folds too!

In regards to Fluffies and other nappies with wadding, the more you wash them the more useless they get! I was given some Minappi's and they werent too bad st first, but then I found I had to boost them with three hemp boosters. It wasn't worth the effort. They suck. Go the more expensive hemp ones. Baby beehinds and bubba j's are my faves.

Hi, I'm back! I have been using cloth nappies for about 3 weeks now and have purchased one or two of a number of brands to see what we like the best!
Greens dreamytimes and funtimes are fab, I think I like them so much because they are so soft. Cooper doesn't mind them when I put them on although when he is boosted ready for night time he walks like a cowboy......hehe:D
i am a big fan of fruit salad nappies although I only have one at the moment.......they are so slim so they don't come with the bulk of the others. I have found they are great for out and about. Nice and slim around the legs too.
I have 2 tots bots that I got 2nd hand and think they are pretty good but I must admit I like the pockets better I think....I use these at home when we aren't going anywhere. I haven't tried the bamboozles yet though.......
Motherease sandys have been a big let down for me.....I was recommended that these were great for heavy wetters but I haven't found them to be. They just seem to be saturated instantly...and thats with the booster as well. Also I have found them to be quite big even though I am in the right weight range...if you have a chubbier bubs they would fit better I think.
Lastly I have 2 of Sandras stuffables on the way thanks to fellow bubhubbians so when they arrive I will let you know how they go. Thats all I can afford for now!
Just to let you know I am using these on an 18 month old boy not a new born so we need the more absorbant types!!
Has anyone had a look as the cost difference?
I currently pay 23 cents per disposable nappy.

Fantastic post! I've spent the last few hours trawling the internet for all the different kinds of clothies available and I am a little lost (and my head is aching!). I've learnt of a few more from this post and like the idea of supporting WAHM's from Australia.
Baby Beehinds in Bamboo & Hemp sound like a good buy, as do itty bitties, Sandra's stuffables and the Fruit Salad range. I liked the look of the Greens too.
Just wanted to say Thanks So Much Everyone for sharing your experiences and cutting down on confusion for mums-to-be like me! :smiliedance:
Edited cos I forgot to ask...
Which have you found to be better? Buying sizes as they grow? Or using the one size fits from Newborn to Toilet Training?
Also - what is a good amount to get? 24 + ? PUL + ? Wool + ? Boosters?
:yelclap: I love cloth nappies and can't wait to show everyone who bagged me for wanting to do it how great they are and how well they work!
I've got a few more reviews to add :D
Sandras Stuffables - 2 print PUL pockets and 1 print fleece pocket. - Very cute to look at. These pockets are very roomy - super easy to stuff. Can handle extra stuffing with no problems. NO leaks at all. Not as trim as peenuts though so they can be a bit bulky under smaller size clothes (ie PP).
Baby Bloomers -Jungle animal Print PUL pocket nappy - Incredibly good quality definately up there with Sandras! I purchased this new off ebay for $15 and I was expecting something a little less polished but this nappy is definately professionally finished and is Currently Sebastians favourite. NO leaks, roomy pocket (can take extra stuffing) . The sizing is very generous on this brand too . I liked it so much I went and bought another one !

Ive also got 2 baby bloomers off ebay & think they are great
Not as soft as the Greens but definately a winner especially when bubs had an explosive day a few weeks ago LOL !
Now you have made me ponder getting on ebay !!!!!
Oh dear .... must .... go .... to .... bed ........;)
Hi-great thread
Hoping someone can help me. I got some pocket nappies at the baby expo last week but think I must be doing something wrong as they leak like crazy. I'm a first time user!
They are peapods - peapods.com.au. I contacted them and they told me that the absorbancy improves when the are washed. I have washed them but as soon as DD peed yesterday am it came straight through. Apparently these are supposed to last for four hours!
Anyone else had any joy with them. I really want them to work :fingerscrossed:
Manxie - Peapods are a brand new product so not many people will have them yet.
It sounds like the nappy is repelling the urine. This can be caused by too much detergent or the wrong kind of detergent in the wash.
What washing powder did you use ? I;ve heard planet ark can cause repelling quite badly. Did you soak them in something prior to washing at all?
or they may not be 'broken in' yet. How many times did you wash them & the inserts before use ? If the inserts are hemp they need to be washed at least 3 times before use. The nappy itself usually only needs to be washed once if it's fleece and PUL , just to get any residues from manufacturing out.
If you think it might be detergent overload run them through on a warm rinse and see if the water in the machine suds up. If it does rinse them a few times then dry them and try using them again.

A fascinating thread. I have just read through most of these posts and am much more informed but also confused. I have always used terry nappies but am looking for covers that are not PVC. I have so many terry squares that I don't want them wasted so what is the best way to go? Can anyone suggest the best type of cover/nappy to use in conjunction with my terry squares?

Sal I can definately recommend bummis (I know they can be found at the weewums website... - but somewhere else in this thread someone said they were cheaper somewhere else??) - they are gorgeous .. and use touchtape which is a really good quality velcro - I paid $16 each - but they are well worth it - my friend has some and she is about to use them on her second child so they do last...

Thanks Veve,
I'll look at these. Even $16 sounds better than the average $21-$25 ones I've been looking at.:fingerscrossed:

Great thread, I have really benefitted from reading all these posts. I'm at the stage when i have visited so many webstes i am dizzy - trying to decide what to actually buy is quite a headspin right now! So i really appreciate hearing all this feedback. (I had been reading the reviews on Diaper Pin - which is USA but i was so glad to find an Aust equivalent).
I'll be back posting my own "results" when i have my own little "tester" to try them out

Ok well i got some Swaddlebees a few weeks ago & with a little perserverance i have worked out the boosting that works for us !
They are also great nappies very very very trim so trim i forget he is wearing a cloth lol & i love how they have side snaps cause little Boof has worked out being without a nappy is so much fun lol.
The boosters i got with them are hemp & have two layers but just werent enough so lucky i have some small hemp boosters i got from ebay which are great for adding to a day nappy as these fit in no probs making the nappy last 4hrs ! They are so trim i was having trouble finding something that would fit into the pocket !
So they are really Dad friendly for stuffing due to them being so trim & the pocket so small but are great nappies as far as im concerned !!!

I like my Motherease PUL covers; they might be just a bit extra than Bummis but are in the average price range rather than the lower price range and I much prefer the fineness of the PUL compared to the industrial strength PUL in Bummis covers, as well as the reduced bulk.
Not a fan of PUL much at all, but when I do use it, I prefer a lighter, less bulky (and what I imagine, more breathable) option, Motherease (especially the Air Flow) and I also like tots bots as they fit more snugly than Motherease. Another reason why I recomend the Motherease Air Flow is the snap fastening (kids can't rip them open as readily as Velcro...)
at the end of the day, however, give me WOOL WONDERFUL WOOL ANY DAY!!!!

Just a quickie...
looking for some advice on nappies that don't take too long to dry now that its colder.
My tots bots fluffle thingie is good but i only have one of those and the other cotton tots bots take ages to dry!!
Thinking of getting a couple of eenees or some other all in one
recommendations would be grand
oh and the slimmer fit the better (so baby's dad doesn't call her big bum!!)
\cheers
I use pocket nappies and they are quick to dry - the nappies themselves dry in less than 1/2 an hour in the sun (longer if it's over cast). The inserts of course pull out for washing and drying and take a little longer to dry. Generally a microfibre or single layer insert dries the quickest then prefolds then premade (no fold) inserts. Hemp is the slowest to dry. I have more inserts than nappies so that I always have dry inserts.

Rhoxie - could i clarify something with you about pocket nappies please? Have i understood things correctly that pocket nappies are worn WITH a cover? I read a post today where someone talked about using a pocket nappy alone, as if it were an AIO (all in one). I have only READ about cloth, haven't even seen one yet in real life, but i am trying to educate myself about them.
anyone know who makes compostable disposable napppies? (environmentally friendly ones that don't fill up landfill). I have been thinking of those for out n about. Plus, for times when my partner won't use cloth.

Pocket nappies shouldn't need a cover! ;)
Umm their are a few places that make enviromentally friendly disposable nappies one of them is Bambo Nature call 1300 725 876 for a free sample!;) If you didn't want to use completely disposables though you could try out the Eenee pads inside a nappy as they are enviromentally friendly too and flushable.
There are two kinds of pocket nappies - those that need a cover, and those that don't.
Most are "pocket AIOs" - the outer is a waterproof or water resistant layer, such as PUL or adequate fleece (meaning taslon-lined fleece, or premium Malden Mills fleece, or two layers of regular fleece). Examples include Sandra's Stuffables, Green Kids, Fruit Salad, Fuzzibunz.
Some pocket nappies are "pocket fitteds" - the outer is an absorbent material rather than a waterproof one. Examples include the hemp pockets at Pookey Pockets.

thanks oscar's mum, i hadn't heard of Eenies - must check them out. (i will try www.eenies.com.au and hope for the best)
wawaa - thank you - didn't realise there were TWO types of pocket nappies, thank you for illuminating me (I obviously need ALOT of illumination to get my head around all this cloth nappies stuff!!!)
thanks so much everybody
Pocket nappies don't need a cover - they have an out shell of either PUL or Polar fleece and an inside lining of either micro fleece or micro suede or polar. So they don't need either a cover or a liner. The absorbent insert slots in through an opening in the back and it comes out for washing.

Have you checked out the FAQ?

I recently made the switch to cloth nappies full time and am so glad that I did! After HOURS of research I narrowed it down to 2 brands to trial (both had trial packs available) and we ended up going with Green Kids pocket nappies: http://www.greenkids.com.au/
We live in a cold area, so pocket nappies are great because the outer shell dries really quickly. The inserts are hemp and take quite a while to dry so I got extra to avoid having to use the dryer. Stuffing the nappies is pretty quick so I do this as I take the nappies off the line, so putting the nappies on bub is as quick and easy as a disposable. The velcro tabs are also really simple to use. My hubby also really likes these nappies.
I also tried Baby Beehinds as they got such great reviews online but I don't really like using them... they take forever to dry on the line and I don't like the extra step of using a PUL cover. The snappy bits for putting on take me a while to adjust the nappy to the right size. Also, the whole nappy soaks up the moisture and bub doesn't feel as dry when the nappy comes off. They are beautifully made, though, and the bamboo ones are really, really soft. The wool cover and the PUL cover are fantastic for keeping in moisture, though they are size specific so you have to buy more as your baby grows.
The biggest lesson I learned is to trial 1-2 nappies before you buy a set of them to see how they fit and whether they work for you when putting them on, washing and drying them.
