Is there a particular brand that you're happy with? Im currently using purity sensitive. Smells great but not a very tough stain remover. Dont get much sunlight and I want to use a lower temp on machine if I can get away with it.

Hi, I use Bio Zet at 1/2 strength and it works great. Still need sunlight on some nappies to remove the stains though, but I think this is pretty normal.
UV rays :D... even cloudy days, it still works (just not as fast!)

Same here, UV rays are all that work for us  And if I'm still getting burnt out at the washing line, then there must be some UV out there!
I have to admit that I use hot water to help shift marks and stains too.. not ideal though.. but I have 2 in cloth and only wash full loads... That's how I justify it anyhow!
I don't have access to dry outside in the sun either (the joys of apartment living ) so I always wash on hot.
Detergent wise I found BioZet was good for stain removal, but is meant to be harsher on your nappies (as is tumbledrying) and also not so good for sensitive skin...so I switched to Planet Ark Aware Sensitive, which TBH isn't quite as good as BioZet at stain removal, but at least it's better than some of the others I tried (Purity was OK, GreenCare was the worst!)
I've found Aware Sensitive to be wonderful at getting out the stains. I also occasionally add bicarb soda to the stain remover section, and vinegar in the fabric softener bit when there is no elastic in the machine.
I like the Aldi brand 'sensitive' washing powder.
You only need the TINIEST amount.... and leaves the nappies smelling gorgeous!

Sunlight is great, but the only annoying thing about it is that I have found if I don't hang them in the sun wet (ie if I dry them overnight and then hang them out in the morning to bleach) they seem to retain their stains. I have permanently stained a couple of my brand new microfibre inserts before I discovered this. Very annoying in wet weather when I don't have a dryer!
Remember it's just cosmetical and doesn't affect the performance of the nappies.
Make sure you use a detergent that doesn't include any enzymes - I use Planet Ark/Aware as it's great for sensitive skin, all natural/biodegradable, but seems to work well at removing stains.
You may have to rinse pooey nappies really well before dry pailing, just to help avoid staining.
