Ok ladies I promised ages ago that I would help my fellow MCN users, or convertors, or anyone just curious in what the fuss is about, and do a sewing morning or afternoon at my place.

During the week is probably best for me as I work Sats so that doesn't leave much of a weekend, plus there will be more parking in the complex through the week

My house is extreemly child friendly, as my toddlers have distroyed anything that is in reach already

So kids are welcome, as I'm assuming they will entertain each other while we have a play :D

So I was thinking next week or the week after? What does everyone think?

Anyone interested?

Just create a list with your names and preference to day/time so I can work it out from there

Details :D

10 am
Tues 17th?

Just thought I'd answer a few questions

I'm not sure how much time we'll get to sew it will depend on the kids I suppose, and how carried away we get :ecomcity:

I have plenty of fabrics, thread, etc, but if there is something you really want to make then you can bring the fabrics you want to work with.

If you want to take a nappy home then you can buy your fabrics and bring them with you, or I you can choose from my fabrics and make a nappy for say $10 for a PUL pocket depends on what you want to make.

I use my own pattern I've developed, but I also have the Honeyboy! pattern, or I've got some free patterns, again it depends what you want to make

Even if all we end up doing is having a nice morning tea it will be good

Thanks so much for this- I have a great stash of BBH but really want to make some back ups of my own. This would be fantastic for me and I can fit in most days and any time except from 2:30- 4:00 while I am still on school pick up duty.

Could you maybe post a link to the pattern you will use (or is it your own modified?) with suggestions for materials? I figure you will demonstrate!

If you get time- I was hoping you might show me how to work your snaps machine. YEP, I caved in and ordered one (didn't take much persuading  ) It hasn't come yet and I'm not sure how to set up the die bits and snaps etc.

Thanks again, count me in. :smiliedance:

will she sleep at other people's house? I've got a portacot I can set up in Noah's room if Lachlan is using the cot.

10am works for us because otherwise Noah goes completely nutso in the afternoons

I so want to come.....but I can't:banghead: My sewing machine is in storage for the next three weeks, along with all of my material, and DH doesn't start work until the 16th of July, so the next couple of weeks are technically "family time".

Family time is fun, I'm looking forward to it, but a sewing bee where I can meet all of you sounds great too.

I'm definately in for the next one though, if there's a next one:D

I just had a brain wave

maybe we should start a crafty type playgroup, we could do a mixture of stuff sewing, scrapbooking, knitting....
whatever anyone else can think of :D ??

Anyway I've updated post #3 with the list of peoples coming and answering your qs, but I'm happy to do whatever you gals want. You tell me and I'll see what I can do :p

katherine

This is a great idea! I'd definately be up for it. I love sewing, I want to learn how to knit, and my scrapbooking stuff has been screaming at me to use if for....I can't remember it's been so long:laughing: This way, not only can we chat and have morning tea/afternoon tea, but our babies can play together and there's at least an hour every week that I can dedicate to crafty staff. Well, in theory anyway:p

There is a bamboo co - op in the nappy sewing section of the BH, I'm not sure if it's exactly the same as the BBH bamboo though. Bamboo fleece it hard to get at the moment.

I've got some plain green or plain yellow PUL at my house, if you want prints you can try: tinytoosh (she is in canberra so you can do pick up), nappiescovered have some awesome bamboo velour at the moment, and heaps of great PUL

HoopDeeDoo

I just checked and Tiny Toosh has bamboo fleece too. I think she is in Gungahlin too

pixietrix
02-07-2007, 19:52
I voted in the poll for the 4th but I can also make the 11th- do we know which it is?

I will bring cash to make a PUL pocket (although I only have fitted- you can educate me :D )

But WOW- the idea of a craft group so so so great :yelclap: . My scrapbooking papers are covered in cobwebs, I have just picked up my old hobby of sewing up a storm of cute stuff for Andrew and could pass on so many tips and patterns. My mother in law is knitting for me to keep Andrew in simple soakers- but I would love to learn.

Plus any group may be nice cause I am feeling a bit lonely at the moment.
Thanks, Kate xxx

I voted the 18th because DH will have started work then, so I can come along without feeling like I've neglected him:p Plus, hopefully by then we will have found a rental and all our stuff will be out of storage.

I can probably do next Wednesday as well, but this Wednesday would be out.

And Kate, I can sew nappies (just!!), and that's about it, so I would love to get together with you and learn how to sew some outfits and other cute things for Isaac. My mum doesn't have the patience to teach me:(

I need to find a house so that I can host a craft day!

Thats cool if you don't have a sewing machine, because there isn't enough room for everyone to bring a sewing machine. I just thought it would be good to show everyone how to make different nappies, and then if people want to use my machine to sew one up they can.

Also it would be nice just to meet up with everyone :)

OK since the week starting on day the 16th seems to work for most how about one of the days of that week? I'm open to suggestions. If Wednesday doesn't work for everyone then how about Tuesday the 17th of July?

I think that Tuesday would be okay for me as well.

Just depends on when we get approved for a rental and when we can move in:D Though - I'm more than happy to take a break from unpacking boxes for a couple of hours.:p

I should have a car Emma, but in the event that I don't, is your place easy to access public transport wise?

I can do any of these days but gather that the 17th seems to be the goer? Rachel, I can show you what we learn on my machine later in the week if you like.
Kim, I am happy to pick you up if you need it but I only have one child restraint bolt fitted and will have Andrew's seat in it. I'm pretty sure there is another attachment spot and we might even have a spare bolt, I'll check it out if you let me know.

Sounds like it's gonna be fun.

Thanks Emma

OK ladies I've PMed everyone I think, if you didn't recieve a PM, and you would like to come please let me know

Also I just wanted to let everyone know in advance that my boys have cases of the snotty nose, nothing serious, no fevers or anything, but I just thought I'd tell everyone in case you are worried about that sort of thing. But lets face it - it is Canberra and it's bloody cold and it's the season for colds.

I will not be offened though if you don't want to infect you children, especially the bubs, we can always move it to next week if that is the case

See you tomorrow!!! :D

I'm so sad:( I can't make it:( Our car needs to go in to the garage to be checked and fixed, as it started playing up yesterday:thumbsdown: I guess it did make it all the way down to Canberra without any problems though, so we should be thankful about that.

Have a great day ladies, Emma's sewing is fantastic, so to be able to see her do it in the flesh will be awesome. Ask lots of questions and write down lots of tips for me!

If there's ever another one I'll be there, I'll find a way!!

I'm really sad that I can't make it, I was really looking forward to finally meeting you, seeing your stash, and getting a tutorial from you. Maybe some other time? I'm expecting to get my Cuddelbuns pattern today or tomorrow, so I can give you a peek at that for some hints on how to make my nappies look half as good as yours:p :D

HoopDeeDoo
