Hi guys i recently put my boy on formula due to me being sick...i first put him on S26alphapro as i was in a flap and i figured it had to be the best because it was the dearest:o after talking to my CHN she said they are all basically the same so i thought i would try using SMA as it was cheaper and figured it was made from the same company so it wouldnt be that big of a change. anywho he has been on it for 2 days and although he has opened his bowels (pooed) he has woken up screaming a few times today and has had HEAPS AND HEAPS OF WIND - farting and burping...i was just wondering if maybe the formula has something to do with this or if it wouldnt affected it? any ideas?:o

Some bubs do seem to do have gastro and wind problems on one formula but do better on others. I think it's highly variable between bubs as to which formula they do better on, whereas some people think certain formulas are more likely to cause constipation or other problems.

A change in formula can also unsettle little tummys, so give it a week or so on SMA and see if he settles down.

Lastly, inspect all your formula preparation stuff and give everything an extra thorough clean, just to rule out the possibility that it's something there and not the formula.

Hi Hayleylea! My bubs had the same problem at 2 weeks old. He was also on the S26 formula and it gave him very bad wind and sometimes constipation. It was pretty bad, he was miserable. I got recommended NAN formula from my mum and best friend and it is wonderful. Its not as thick as other formulas and is easier to digest. At 7 weeks old now he still suffers a little wind but thats from being very hungry and drinking very fast, ha ha! I really recommend the NAN formula, he is a much happier baby now!;)

Sometimes certain formulas can cause problems it varies as MarthM said.
There isnt much difference between formulas but again babies can have different reactions/problems with certain brands.
As MarthaM said changing over formula can often cause problems & can take 2wks to settle down so you do need to give it time this is why its not recommended to chop & change as it could do more harm than good. Another thing im not sure whether you did but is when you change over you only do it one bottle at a time so that they are slowly introduced rather than finishing one & then going straight to another without any easing in this also helps determine whether bubs will have a reaction to it.
Just give this a chance for now & hopefully all will settle down.
Good luck ! :)
