OK, after my many posts about my leaky bumgenius pockets, I think I have solved the mystery...

Anyway, I was using Amolin detergent which is for sensitive skin. I have had leak after leak, so

I washed a load of nappies with Omo yesterday, and the suedecloth seems much more absorbant. So I am guessing that it was the detergent causing the water to repel.

My question is for everyone that uses BG nappies- what detergent do you use? I am worried as the omo has enzymes in it which are meant to shorten the nappies life. Also, Oli has sensitive skin so I dont want it to be harsh, but maybe the Amolin wasn't harsh enough!!!

OK, enough for now. Thanks in advance for replies! Cherry

I use planet ark 'aware sensitive'... it's great, and you only need a dessert spoon full.

I use a very small amount of Dynamo on my BG's and have not had any problems. Also once in a while i use Palmolive washing up liquid instead of washing liquid. About 10ml for a large load and no bubbles don't go everywhere it is hardly enough to make the water foam at all.

I use Bio Zet and have not had any problems at all. I just purchased some Amolin after hearing that detergents with enzymes are bad for the nappies, but after hearing what happened to you I think I will stick to Bio Zet!! Also I am a vet, and I always tell people to use Bio Zet to clean up any carpet that animals have had wee accidents on as it actually breaks down the urine smell better than anything else, so maybe that's also why my nappies don't have that wee smell that many people complain about.

Yeah - I have a bottle of AMOLIN in there too... and whenever I use it, the nappies are PATHETIC. So now I just don't bother... I use them with clothes.

I actually bought them SPECIFICALLY for hte nappies... I thought they'd be good... but no way!

We use ecoStore Liquid but the powder is good too and works out pretty cheap per wash coz you don't need to use as much per wash as you do with normal commercial detergents :smiliedance:

Glad you solved the problem :)

Thanks everyone

I think I will get some of the Ark aware stuff to try. I have a bunch of bottles of Amolin left but that will be strictly for clothes only!

Mumofkieran- the Amolin is great for clothes though, but just keep it away from the lovely nappies

Sassymummy- So it isn't just me then!?! Good to hear that I am right about the Amolin being a nappy disaster... I read the nappy instructions then checked my detergent bottle and thought- this will be perfect! Live and learn I guess!

And thanks for the other comments, will stick with the sensitive skin stuff but will do strip washes with the detergent now and then

Better go and get to bed! Cherry

We use a detergent by a company called Tri-Nature. As far as I understand it, its a non-enzymed, completely natural, biodegradable, phosphate-free (yadda yadda yadda) laundry deteregent that is safe for septic tanks and the environment. You can get it online here (http://www.trinaturedistributor.com/)...It IS quite expensive - but because you only use about a tablespoon, even in a normal wash, it lasts forever and its EXCELLENT - so good at cleaning clothes (their dishwashing powder is awesome too!)

Oh, and no, I don't have anything to do with the company - a friend (non-bubhubber) distributes, which is how I know about the products :)

I can't help you with your question, but I wanted to point out that only on bubhub would you find a post beginning with...

Maybe it just affects the BG suedecloth... it hasn't affected our BBB, they just absorb soooo much I can't believe it!

I used to use Amolin, and didn't have any probs with absorbtion (SP?) that I noticed, but I don't have any BG. I do have nappies with suedecloth though. Anyway we use the Planet Ark Aware for sensitive skin, and it's working really well, and the boys haven't had any reactions to it at all

 Another Planet Ark Aware sensitive user here too. TBH I only wish it made the nappies smell a bit nicer  but since perfumes are one of the irritants for sensitive skin, you can't have it all! LOL.

I've also used Bio Zet in the past when I ran out of the other, and Purity Liquid which also seemed to be fine.
