My 3 yr old DD decided today was a good day to do something completely outrageous.......

The story goes like this...

My mum was outside, I was having a shower in the main bathroom at my mums place and DD was watching a video. Obviously she became bored with the vid and decided to go and explore my Mum's ensuite.

When I got out of the shower, I called out to her to make sure she was doing what she was supposed to be doing (HA!!). She came prancing into the bathroom with 2 HUGE handfuls of hair - HERS  and exclaimed to me 'Mummy I did a haircut, do I look pretty?'

All I could do was gasp and then I laughed as it didn't look terrible - really short on one side, long at the back and bobbed on the other side. I know it sounds terrible but she kind of looked like she had a bit of a elfish, punk look happening!!

After regaining my composure I told her that she did look pretty but she shouldn't cut her own hair and we would go to the hairdressers tomorrow to get them to ficx it up and try to even it up. She said 'Sorry for cutting my hair' and went and sat back in front of her video. I put the scissors away in the other bathroom (higher than she can reach) and went into my room to get dressed.....

Lo and behold, when I came out she had disappeared again. I didn't think it would happen twice but sure enough, when I called out to her she came out with more handfuls of hair and told me proudly 'I fixed it mummy!' And fix it she did  now it is about an inch short on one side and maybe 3 inches on the other with a few long strands that she obviously couldn't reach at the back and one bit of fringe left right in the middle of her forehead, the rest is about a finger-width long.

I know it is terrible but I can't help but find it highly amusing :D I am heading home tomorrow so am not going to get it cut until her dad sees it as he was loving the fact that her hair was getting long and starting to thicken up and has asked to see the result!! I think he'll cry ;)

Oh sorry i shouldnt laugh but thats just adorable as much as it is funny & distressing !
My sister got to scissors one day & "redecorated" for my mum
Mum had just bought new curtains so yeah they got a new look which meant they were ruined. She also cut some carpet before taking the scissors to herself ! She went from having flowing tresses of curls down her back to a buzz cut type look  Needless to say mum was devastated but wasnt sure whether for one reson more than the other !
Aaaah the joys of children ! :D

ooohhhh I've got piccies, and they will be going up at her 16th, 18th and 21st!!! She will probably end up with a buzz cut because that seems to be the only way to get it all one length again!! either that or one of those crazy looking sort of spikey, all different short length cuts - IYKWIM - a bit pixie-ish!!

I have't stopped laughing since she did it so don't feel bad if you havea big old belly laugh!! What else could I do - it's not going to grow back by the morning!! Time for a new look - I used to always change my hair style every month or so, so maybe she is just following in mum's footsteps!!

Best way to look at it is that she had to have a really good cut like this at some stage to really help bring her hair on & thicken it up etc.
Its now just been done earlier than expected LOL !
Plus as she is still so young she will suit the pixie style & will pull it off with style :D

Oh that is sooooo funny! I shouldn't laugh but I can't help but imagine what she looks like! How cute... And for her to even say "she fixed it".... that's adorable!

Thank god I have a boy who has short hair, but who's to say he won't try and "chop" at that when he's old enough!

I wanted to cut it really short and give it a chance to thicken up and he wanted to keep it long - YAY I won and I wasn't even trying ;)

Kyeaj, it was adorable and I couldn't help but laugh - she looked so funny walking in both times so proud, big smile with handfuls of hair!!

some other positives ...

It will be much cooler in the summer heat.
Much easier to wash and you'll save on shampoo.
No more tantrums over having it combed!

Brought back memories of when one of my brothers cut his own fringe. Straight up the middle like a upside-down V!

My dd did this when she was almost 3 ... her hair had grown to just below shoulder length, all pretty and curly, all one length and a nice neat fringe ... not for ong! She got hold of a pair of nail scissors and cut two hunks out of each side!

Needless to say, it has been layered ever since!

I only cut my hair once when I was 13 and delirious from fever! I went into the bathroom and used a tiny pair of nail scissors to cut my fringe out of my eyes ... at the roots! Buzz cut for me the next day and I went back to school feeling like an absolute freak! Since then, I have had lots of different hairstyles including the bright orange #2!

My friends daughter has cut her hair twice in the last few months ... she is half tongan and has the most amazing curly hair, but wants to have straight hair like her big sister and thought that cutting her curls off would fix that. She even said to her Mum when confronted that she would keep cdoing it if Mummy didn't let her have short hair! Luckily, she really suits short hair!

As for your argument with your husband re cutting it short to thicken it... You are very right in believing this as it will DEFINATELY happen!

My ds was born with a mop full of hair (in the cut of a mohawk I might add) and by the time he was 3 months old I had to chop it as people thought he was a girl (even though I religiously dress him in boyish attire). My df was mortified but I assured him it would make it more healthy and thicken it. Since then I have had it cut 3 times and at 6 and a half months, he now has a gorgeous spiky flat top and most parents would drool over it's thickness.

So, even though you "technically" didn't win... Reassure your hubby that your dd's hair will in the long run. Her locks will be thicker than ever in no time!

Well I am back online - yay!!

DD and I made a trip to the hairdressers and she now looks like a boy, thank goodness for her pixie-like features, sometimes she still looks like a girl!!

I will post a before and after photo on my avatar in the next day or so! Still very amusing!!

RAOFLMAO - absolutly hillarious!!! My dd has done it twice (not that bad though thank god) but it sooooo funny i aggree. My daughter goes to my mothers house 3 times a week, and she found the little dog shaver my mum uses to clip her maltese dog. Shania deciede that her fringe was too long and need to be cut, just like Ice's (dog) so she went ahead and cut a huge uneven chunk right in the middle of her forehead! God it looked Good!! lol

THe second time wasnt so bad though cus some how she managed to get the underlayer of her fringe so its not soo noticable. My df went off, cus he loves her hair.

Hhahahahaha sooooooo very funny
