Hi Girls
I found out last night I lost my baby at 8 weeks. I should have been 11 now.
The doctor asked if i wanted to do it the conventional way (natural "just waiting") or have a curette.
I decided on natural as Im already bleeding and have had some clots and now cramps.
Has anyone done it this way also? I just dont want to do the curette unless it is too damaging to health.
If you did do it the conventional way how long did it take?

:hugs: I'm so sorry for your loss. When I lost my baby in March my DH & I thought it would be best if we had a D&C, so I can't answer your question about passing it all on your own. I started bleeding on the Thursday morning at 2am, went to hospital and they sent me home that morning. Friday I was back there with severe cramps (worse than contractions and I needed morphine for the pain), massive blood loss and clots galore. By Saturday I still hadn't passed it all so had a D&C. They say you are extremely fertile after a D&C, and I really needed a clean out (sorry, grosse) because my AF has always been irregular. I think it can take up to a week to pass it naturally, and you can be prone to infection! But you can get an infection with a D&C too.
I hope you're doing as well as can be expected. Let yourself grieve for the baby you have lost. It's a bloody awful thing and I'm so sorry that you're going through it. My baby was 8 weeks old too when he/she died but I thought I was 11.5wks (it was a 'missed miscarriage'), awful awful stuff :hugs: . Feel free to PM me if you need to talk.

from memory i had what your experiencing loss wise for about 2 weeks..but only a week of really heavy/dull ache pains etc. i have had a d&c too and i bled for about 3 weeks goodness knows why!! i felt so sick too the ga really knocked me.
sorry to hear about your loss:hugs:
I'm sorry to hear about your loss - your story sounds similar to mine - I was about 11 weeks along when I miscarried but after an ultrasound the doctors said the foetus had died about 6-7 weeks.
I started off miscarrying naturally (like you with lots of cramps, bleeding and clots) - it actually felt like contractions (which the doctor confirmed was my body's way of miscarrying) but after 2 more ultrasounds I still had lots of tissue and stuff in my uterus that hadn't been expelled as yet - the doctor said I could wait for it to dispel naturally but the longer I waited the higher the chance of infection as well. In the end I had a D&C and conceived soon after.
All the best :hugs:

So sorry for your loss.......I would suggest a d&c, its up to you and I probably would have chosen that way too (first time, but after 5 m/c....) I think it is highly unlikely to pass it all on your own anyway, not to mention the pain. If you go straight in for a d&c you may avoid a lot of pain and discomfort and drawing out the trauma of it all.. After my d&c's I had relatively no pain which I am not sure is the same for everyone. Its relatively painless and quick!
I just read over this and realized it sounds a bit bossy, no offence intended at all, I am truely sorry for your loss. I think thats why I got a bit intense about it cos I would hate to think anyone was going to go through the pain and suffering that isnt necessary!

Me too ..... no pain afterwards  . When I found out the baby had died I just wanted it out of me (that sounds terrible  ), but at the same time I was so upset at the thought of them taking it out of me. But that was just how I felt!

So sorry for your loss :hugs:
I just had the same option given to me although I never started to bleed at nearly 13 weeks. My OB said that if I did to start to bleed before my D&C scheduled a few days after I found out...............it would have been quite painful so I'm glad I never did.

Hi Guys
Thanks for all your replies.
I am bleeding, lots when I wipe and I guess its clotting as some is thick and stringy? or am I getting that wrong?
I think I am punishing myself I still want to wait until Tuesday till I have the u/s to see if everything has passed.
What is the likeliness of haemmorhage?
I only want to go if i have lots of blood and at the moment its hardly on the pad.
I have a sore lower back and period like cramps, i think that it is quite normal and it is not so much painful as uncomfortable.
Hi there sorry for your loss it will be a difficult few weeks no matter what you do. I have had a D&c and had 2 natural miscarriages. With the D&C there was continued period like bleeding for about 2 weeks. with the natural after the initial loss which was over about a week the bleeding eased off sooner. As for that week I had 1 night of extreme pain but panadeine, brufen, hot water bottle and of course DH got me through. Other than that just period like pain. A natural miscarriage is different for everyone and different between each one. My sister had 9 miscarriages and each one was different. She even had situations where there was minimal bleeding as everything was reabsorbed. For me I felt the natural way is the way to go as the bleeding and the pain seemed to give completion to the situation and it was nice to be at home. Good look in whatever you do.

Hi there i'm so sorry for the loss of your little one. It's something no one should have to go through. I m/c twins, one at 5wks and the other died at 7wks and i decided to go naturally. I had a few cramps and a bit of lower back pain. The bleeding was no more than what i would get with a normal period and was all over in 5 days. As others ahve said everyone is different. I hope it all goes ok with out you having any problems.

Hi Girls
I had a u/s done today and the baby had decreased in size by only a few days.
My cervix is now slightly open, it was closed thursday night. Does anyone think I may pass it in a few days??
Im really torn between natural and d and c
I'm a bit scared of the curette and a bit not sure of doing it that way.

Hi again I know every day feels like 10 at the moment but it has only been 4 days since you found out your baby wasnt going to make it. I thought I would give you more detail of my last one re time scales as It may help. But I cant reiterate enough everyone is different. We knew from our week 8 scan that the baby was dead. They repeated the scan at week 9 to be certain as there was no bleeding. I started to bleed at 9 weeks 5 days (Friday) and went to the hospital. They did a speculum exam and as my cervix was closed and there was minimal bleeding sent us home to return the following day for a scan. The w---er who did the scan said that the uterus was empty but I just didnt believe him. That night I had the really bad pain and some heavier bleeding. On the monday I went to the GP and expressed my concerns re the interpretation of the scan. She filled in 5 referral forms for local radiology centres and off I went. I went to the beautiful people at Perretts in Port Adelaide and they slotted me in. They agreed with me that there was still products in the uterus. I did not actually pass the sack until the wednesday which was 6 days following the start of bleeding. The fact that your cervix is open seems to indicate that your uterus is getting ready to expel the retained products of conception (official term). I am sorry if this is too much information but if I hadnt had my long suffering sister to tell me the details when I needed them i dont know how I would have coped. Also what is about the curette in particular that you are not sure of. Is it the thought of the anaesthetic or have you had a previous bad hospital experience.

Hi Lean
Thanks for the info, not too much at all. Very helpful.
I am having bad back pains and bleeding is a little heavier, I had one small clot in the past 2 hours.
Do you mind, and feel free not to answer this, did you pass the baby as well as the sac?
I have everything there at the mo.
I see my doc Wednesday morning and I guess I'll have to make a decision then.
I had a bad experience with a GA a few years ago. The tube they put down my throat caused me some sores on my mouth and tongue and a scratchy throat. The anaesthetic made me feel sick for 2 to 3 days after.
I heard this is a different anaesthetic but i still feel so anxious i dont think i can physically walk into the hospital, i have had not pleasant experiences there also.
This is the worst decision I have ever had to make:gloomy:
Hi Belle only the sac itself was really distinguisable and most of the rest was probobly reabsorbed as the baby had not got passed the 6 week size. With my first miscarriage which was also at 10 weeks the baby had died at 7 weeks. Even though I had a D&C with that one I had bled quite a lot before we actually got to theatres with enormous clots which probably had the baby inside but nothing distinguishable. I think it is really too early at that age. (Come to think of it I was actually bleeding for about a week before that one)
Re the D&C. The anaesthetic you have is a short acting one. I had a drug called midazolam which makes you sleepy and helps you forget and propofol which is the very fast acting white one that sends you under. They are actually the same drugs I had for egg collection with IVF so not real heavy duty. You shouldnt really have the problems with your mouth with this procedure as it is quite quick and the tube is not in for long. As for the nausea is there any way of finding out what you had last time and maybe they could try and avoid that. Sometimes it is the inhaled gasses that make people sick after a long GA which wouldnt be in use here. Also there are some fantastic antisickness drugs out now that you can have. As for having to make a decision by wednesday, dont feel pressured you have to be happy (bad choice of words I know) with whatever decision you make so unless your GP thinks you at a greater risk of infection by waiting and that is what you want to do, go with it.
If you do go for the D&C make sure that you let the anaesthetist and the nurses know your concerns so they can do everything they can to make the situation bearable.

Firstly let me say I am so sorry for your loss, it is so hard to forget the next few months that you hd already planned ahead.
I miscarried naturally and had bad cramps for about 4 days and then the bleeding lasted another few days after that. my dr prescribed me some painkillers aswell.
my first period after the m/c was also about as painful as the cramps were when i m/c so not sure if that is the same with a d&c or not.
my dr told me that if you have a d&c it could take longer to get back to normal however i havent had a normal cycle length yet so I think it is down to your personal opinion on what is best for you.
I believe going through it naturally helped me come to terms with what happened

Dear Leanbh and Keenansmum,
please excuse if I mispelt!
Thankyou so much. you both made me feel ok about doing it the natural way.
I started having bad back pain at 5pm, then top of my legs started to get sore and heavy at about 7pm.
I woke up an hour ago (about 12 midnight) and I had passed alot of tissue and liver looking matter. My husband had to look for me I was too distressed (what a husband I have!!)
Anyway bleeding came on heavy and is now subsiding. Cramps have nearly gone. I am positive it is all over.
After this I dont know if I would want to do i naurally again, although I feel soooo much relief and feel great for it (as much as I can at this point!)
I will see the doc on Wednesday morning and ask to have another ultrasound to see if all is gone, otherwise I might just go to the hospital to get a check up.
Thankyou all for your sweetness and kindness. May you have the most happiest healthiest children and love enriched lives

Hello
I'm sorry for your loss.
When i m/c in march, i lost alot of clots. I started bleeding on the Sunday and when for a scan on the Monday which showed i was 5 weeks but i should have been 7 weeks. I think i fully started losing clots and everything on the Wednesday after i left the hospital, when they told me my hcg levels decreased.
:hugs:

hey bellesbabydreams
I am glad that it seems to be at an end for you, like I said earlier once I passed the tissue etc I was devestated but it allowed me to put it behind me and move on
I hope everything works out for you and your partner
Hi Belle I hope the worst is behind you and yes I agree you cant beat a supportive husband. As I said that was the the great advantage of letting it go naturally so we could be together through the lot, after all it was his baby too. Look after yourselves and good luck for the future.
Just a thought but when I had my first miscarriage we bought a painting in the town we were in (we were actually on a few days away). I have the picture as a reminder of our babies who were too good for this world.

Hi Girls
I ended up having really bad back pain the monday after i found out i had an incomplete miscarriage, and I lost alot of the tissue on the monday night.
Tuesday night the foetus just slipped out!
Bleeding has nearly stopped, just a little here and there. My doctor told me to do what I felt - she had a few miscarriages and after her D and C she got an infection anyway and now has lots of trouble conceiving naturally. I believe it can happen either way!
Even though I have done it naturally, for you girls that have also done it naturally, did you have to have a d & c after anyway just to "make sure" all the tissue was out?

Hi Brookme
I am going OK. on holiday and I am having up and down days. I have passed the angry stage but now at the stage where I'm thinking "how many times will it happen" and "will I conceive naturally or have to adopt?"
Alot of questions just for one miscarriage I know, but now I realise I'm not "Invincible" I feel different.
How are you?

Hi
Just thought I'd update!!
I didn't need to have a d and c.
I found out on the thursday and had little bleeding, then monday night had heaps of clots and thought that was it, but then Tuesday night had a bleed and the foetus came out.
last Friday I stopped bleeding and had u/s Monday and everything has passed. Haven't had anymore bleeding, but feeling like ive lost a baby even though technically speaking it was only a foetus (doesnt make it any easier!)

Hi BBD,
Im so sorry for your loss.
No matter what term they call where your up to in your pregnancy,it was still your baby..
I to lost my first without the need for a d&c.But with my second and third i had d&Cs..
I was reading your posts and just had to reply because it really touched a familier feeling with me.
I just wanted to say that what your feeling is very normal and for you to NOT give up hope.
I have trouble ttc and was told after my third m/c that i may not have another bub.(only not in those terms!) I also have trouble holding on to my bubs.
But i have two little boys now and glad that i didnt give up even though i came so close..
