We now officially have 2 in cloth:smiliedance: The only problem is I'm finding the newborn poo really hard to rinse off. I've tried rinsing it before washing, and just throwing it into the machine as is, both ways, they come out discoloured where the poo was. I don't have this problem with DD's poos, so what's the deal? I thought newborn (and breastfed) poo would be so easy to clean.

If your using flats, i used to rinse what i could then soak them in nappy san, swish them around a bit then let them sit for about 4 hours then throw the whole load on, then i would throw them in the wash hang them out on the line and all the stains would go :)
Not sure about these fancy mcns though waiting to have this baby so i can try them LOL

The sun should bleach the stains out (so long as there are no chunks!) :)
I've never rinsed my flats, just chucked them in on full cycle... that's with a front loader, on hot water cycle. They always come out fine, so maybe a more thorough cycle or hotter water?

I found that I just had to ignore the discoloured patches when the load of washing had just finished.. I just hung them up out on the line (it did help that it was summer) and once I started seeing how everything was so bright and clean coming off the line, then I stopped worrying- sunlight seems to take care of any nappy stains here
Don't know what to do in winter though!

Yeah, I'm using BBBs and there is no sun, or very little anyway. I'm also using the dryer heaps, there's no way they will dry outside these days (plus I'm trying to stretch out 8 BBBs for my newborn son and my 21month old daughter...still waiting for my fluffy mail).
Do you think the sun will get out old stains? If I just let them be stained until I get a chance to put them in the sun?

Have you got any microfleece liners to use? If you go to spotlight or somewhere else that sells fleece then you can just cut them to shape it doesnt fray so you dont need to sew it at all and you wont get any stains on your nappies.

hey :)
congrats on your little one! even though its hard to find sunny days in winter, the sun still gets through the clouds to help sanitise your naps. even an hour or two outside will help - and will also help stop any smells from being inside all the time. what i would do (if we didnt live in a unit!) is peg all the nappies onto an airer, take the airer outside for a few hours, then bring it back and let them dry inside.
hope that helps

Even an overcast day should help enough to make all that taking out/pegging on line/bringing in/hangin up on airer worthwhile (far out it DOES get annoying though! :banghead: ) I actually get sunburnt on overcast days in winter, so there must be enough UV out there to do something!
Otherwise... I wouldn't stress.. in a few months time when it warms up, some hot washes (if you're not using hot already) and a few full days in the sun will help make the stains fade. Ariene was fully breastfed (no solids) up to 8 months, and soon afterwards there was no sign of it on her nappies whatsoever (although we only used MCN from 4-5 months). And I didn't use liners back then.. I would recommend some cheap fleece from spotlight though! chop it up and walla, liners.

Yep thats what i do, I don't have BF newborn poo, but disgusting toddler poo, which likes to leave stains on anything bamboo. I hang all my nappies on the clothes horse and put infront of the sunniest window if it's raining, or put it outside when it's not.
Then bring it inside when the sun is going down to dry inside. You'll need heaps more nappies though, because here it takes two days to dry :)

yeah, it takes forever for them to dry here too, that's why I've been using the dryer, with such a small stash, I don't have the luxury to wait. I think I'll make up some liners, good idea! I use them for DD, they are a bit too long for DS's nappy in the newborn position. I thought of another idea too, would it be ok to put the pooey nappies in a seperate bucket with water in it, and dry pail the others?
I just hang mine on the line and the sun gets the stains out. Even ones that have been put through the dryer can be hung out and they come back in bright and clean.
I hung out some flannellette fitteds this morning which were very yellow in parts, and within an hour they were like new on the inside. amazing.

I've been using the dryer heaps too - and there are some nasty stains! Once i am sick of looking at them - i put them on the clothes airer in the window for a day. Gets them out no probs. If i have heaps of them, i will hang them all on the clothes airer (while it is inside & nice & warm) and then carry it outside at about 10, then back inside at around 4pm. That way they get the benefit of fresh air & sunshine, but as they are not quite finished drying i can leave them near the heater overnight & bu morning they are done. No need to stuff about hanging & re-hanging them.
