took troy back to the dr yesterday as he had been getting worse and worse since being on zantac and refusing all bottles, or only having about four 60ml bottles a day.

today however, he has already had about five 120-180ml bottles (feeding him now) with no tears, no fighting, no wriggling.........nothing.

has anyone with a reflux baby had this happen? it is so weird.


only thing different is that we ran out of thickener yesterday, but i wasnt putting much at all in his bottles.

I bet i can guess what happened yesterday. Were you adding the thickner directly to the bottles?

I bet a little chunk blocked the hole in the teat. Therefore it was major frustration not the reflux making him cranky. This happened with my DD when we started using thickner.

What i did to eliminate it was make up 1L of formula in a plastic bottle and add the thickner to it. Shake really well. Then i used a tea strainer to catch the little chunks as i filled all her bottles for the day. Much more time consuming but it solved out problem. I never thought there would be any little chunks but each grandal of thickner power swells and sometimes if a couple of granules get stuck together then you end up with a little chunk.

If ne is taking his milk fine without the thickner and not chucking too much then would you consider going without. Perhaps he is over the worst??? Up to you.

Yep, was adding it to the bottles, but he has been refusing bottles since before then. His thickener hasn't been putting lumps in the bottles either.

just a thought did you start the thickening and zantac at the same time, if so perhaps the zantac has now started working but he was gatting worse with the feeds casue it was to hard for him to suck

just a though hopefuly he caries on doing well

The thickener, I started 2wks ago today, the Zantac I started 1wk ago today. But he also didn't have any Zantac yesterday as I wasn't home between 8:30am and 2:30pm.


I just brought another tin of thickener, but I have decided to not add quite as much.
