cat litter problems

what is the deal with the cat litter on the market here. I have tried every single kind (including different brands of the same kind) I can find and am not happy with any of them. here is why. Plus they all say they are more absorbant than the others, none of them do what they say they do. :mad:

Traditional style: smells and I found I was using so much of it and changing it way too often.

Clumping style: what clumps? :banghead: they fall apart, then the cats walk it all over the house, its a nightmare.

Crystal style: I have to change mine each week, it says for 2 cats it can last 3 weeks or something. pfft not in my house. Plus it goes feral and once it's been wee'd in a couple of times the wont use it. Plus they walk it everywhere too.

Recycled style: this one was just useless for me, I saw no benefit at all.

Can anyone recommend a decent type of cat litter? I am sick of having to kepp it fresh as one of our cats is that fussy she will only use it fresh. Otherwise she is peeing and pooing on the laundry floor or on dirty clothes on the floor.

I am so tempted to try that litter kwitter, has anyone else done that?

I just use the cheap stuff and use the gel pack litter tray liners...it is so easy and after two days of the cats using it (I scoop poos) i just lift it out and chuck it. One big bag of litter ($4-50 lasts a week) and it is about $3 for the bags for a week and a half.

How long have you had your cats? What sort of litter did they 'learn' in before you got them? Wood shavings is something I have seen used. I use Catsan clumping one which isnt too bad. Have used the homebrand too, its more like gravel.

Its a pain when they only will use it once or twice (stuck up cats:laughing: ) Our cats are outside most of the day and seem to have cast iron bladders so don't use the tray much

I think it really does depend on the cat.

If you want the proper crystal litter then you need to buy it from a pet store tis very expensive but it really does do the job. The supermarket brands are inferior thats for sure when you have more than one cat !

The clumping litters are well yes i agree cr@p lol ive never liked them but when desperate they get used !

We changed tried a few recycled paper type litters before finding one that actually works !

Its called Max's Cat & Pet Litter tis endorsed by the RSPCA & we like it because its compostable. Obviously we wouldnt use it on vegies lol but its seriously done wonders for our compost ! Our plants love it !

It was a case of trial & error for us when we decided to stop using the expensive crystal litter. I nearly decided to forgo some other luxury to keep with this lol but in the end we got there !

It isnt perfect but i find it isnt as smelly & i change it once every two weeks now due to only having the one cat who uses it only sporadically. Of course poo's get taken out straight away though !

I have no idea what type of litter they used to begin with, we have had them for about 3.5 yrs. The one we are using at the moment is a type of wood shaving one that is spose to clump and u can also flush small amounts of it or stick it on your garden. That was started off good but the cats wak it everywhere and I am sick of sweeping it up. Worse still I found some up stairs on my bed after the cats walked it up there.

It's just so frustrating.

what are the gel pack litter liners? I have never heard of them. Do the cats scratch holes in them?

I've used the Breeder's Choice recycled one for years now and find it great! :thumbsup:

I clean poos out daily (and any really obviously soaked patches), and totally clean out every 3 days....that's with 2 cats. I tried the other recycled one (can't remember the name) and it was horrible, just like flakes of paper....these pellets are much better. :yes:

They are are thicker plastic that you line the litter tray with. My cats don't scratch thru them, and it makes it so easy to clean, just lift it out and chuck it in the bin. You can get catsan (I think it is) liners but they are very thin and get scratched thru. I will never stop using them!! Makes a horrid job so much better!

what brand are the gel liners and where do you get them from? I will have a look at the shops tonight when I go.

they are called litter tray liners - in a little purple box with the cat accessories. HTH
