I tried trawling through all of the threads on slings - but I just haven't got the stamina for it lately! :o
I am due in Oct and want a sling/pouch that would be OK to use in Summer, as well as winter. I get hot pretty easily, and I have a dodgy lower back - so need to take that into account. I don't mind spending the $$ if it means I am going to get a fair amount of use out of it. I also have a few patterns that could be OK - but a lot of them seem to be a bit of a hassle putting them on/baby in.
Oh yeah - needs to be able hold fat babies :D because if this fella is anything like his brother - he could very well be around the 11kg mark at 7 months.

Ooh forgot to add - I cannot stand slings/pouches that leave a buttload of the material hanging about - not a fan at all :)
Hi Jude - wanted to say hi:wave:
Seriously - I got a bubzilla - no excess material (so long as you get the right size (sizes are for you not bubba - they're for bubs up to 15kg).
Nice and snuggly for bubs when they're sleeping, but I've been using the same sling for K since she was born (well I got it in August, but you get the pic), and used it for her today....
Have been using it numerous times per week before today too! Not just in cold weather.
Fantastic when you have to sling bub and put toddler in the seat in the trolley to do the grocery shop:thumbsup:
happy to chat if you want more details...

I saw some of those on Munkies Undies..they look nice - but I haven't found a material I like. Do you have to fold them a special way? Are they like a piece of material - or have structured shape? I am asking because I am fairly cr@p at doing all of the folds etc.

For a newborn, I swear by my hugabub. It would have to be the most favourite of all my baby things! I used it up to about 12 months but I know of many people who continue to use them well beyond this age.
When Hamish got to about 8 months, I bought a Bubzilla and it is fantastic. So easy to wear and I still use it when I am going into the shops for just a couple of things and he is 18 months now. I can "hip" him and leave both of my hands free.
I know you said you don't want anything that trails material but if you have a problem back, then honestly the hugabub is probably the best thing you can use.
Good luck.
I agree with FC - I loved the hug a bub for a newborn. Now that DS is older I am using an ergo carrier as I did for DD2 and a hotsling for sitting him on my hip to pop into pre-school or the shops etc.

Cool - thanks for the input :) I did see a sling where it had a pocket for your keys etc on the trailing bit of material and I kinda liked the idea of that. Didn't really think of using the extra peice for something else...
i have a few slings (ask Veronica) you could try out if you like. i'm a sling-aholic

That'd be awesome Ally :) Which reminds me PM your addy - I will post you your Tupperware :D
LOL i thought u were keeping it. will do so once Ds is asleep
I've got a ring sling. I got it in the largest size, which meant that it has a long tail. At the time I got it so DH could use it (he's 6'3).
I found the long tail soooo handy. It does have a pocket, which is useful - it can even fit a nappy and a snap lock bag with a face washer in it. I also found that the tail made a great cover when feeding, or trying to get DS to sleep when out (I'd drape it over my shoulders so he didn't get distracted by all the scenery, and it helped stopped the lights waking him again after he went to sleep).
It was also great as a cover because when he was asleep in the sling I could eat and the crumbs didn't get in his hair
He spent a lot of time in the sling because he had terrible wind and bowel problems from about 3 weeks through to 10months.

I got my sling from Chickadee slings on the net. Its made of solarveil so fantastic for a Summer bub. I got my tail made a bit longer though as I wanted to use it for privacy during breastfeeding and also to flip over her head when we are in the sun. Aparently solarveil has some sun protection too and can be used in the water as well. Its very lightweight, has no padding or rails or whatever. In the colder months Ive just been dressing DD warmer.
Just wanted to add there are two pockets in the bubzilla...
and yep Ally loves her slings (especially her ergos:laughing: )

The pockets are brilliant! I put Hamish in and put my wallet and keys in the pocket with the velcro. I don't put my phone in though-I have this "thing" about putting my mobile against him in any form-but it would certainly fit too.

OK - well so far I have the wining bid on a HAB $83 so far - hopefully no one hyenas it! I wouldn't mind saving nearly $50 on a brand new one.
You guys sold me on the good for back - no holding side of it all.
May get a bubzilla later when bubs is a bit bigger and I am sick of tying the HAB :D
Will also have to take up your offer on trying your slings Ally! Maybe you can convert me into a sling collector too :D
