Does anyone have any advice on how to fix sore cracked nipples???? :(
I am fully breast feeding my 8 month old DS, and for the last week, all of a sudden my nipples have become cracked and bleed when he feeds. the pain is so unbearable, but i dont want to stop feeding.... i have been using pure wool fat, and that does seem to help, but i feed more then i get to use it, so there really isnt much improvement..
I never had this problem with breast feeding my 2 year old son
What can i do ? i dont want to put him on the bottle until he is 12 months? maybe i have no choice?

hi there, I've never had that problem but from when my ds was born I put Lansinoh on my nipples after every feed. ( I had grazing for the first couple of weeks) Friends put me onto it and they swear by it. You just get it from the chemist. The small tube is enough as you only use a little amount. It's also safe for bubs so you don't have to wash it off before his feed.

hope this helps

Our maternity hospital in Perth gives nipple lasering, maybe there is something like that near you? The physios do it, so maybe even try a physio?

I had it done a few times already since Ajay born (8 days!!!) and it has helped HEAPS.

Hi Jem

Have you noticed that your son is acrobaticly(?sp) nurisng or maybe teething? These types of things can sometimes lead to lazy attachment or somepeople call it Lazy Latch? The baby just gets slack at attaching properly and we get slack at making them attach properly it takes going back to the basics of attachment to get them feeding well again and stop the damage. Do you know a LC that could look at you feed and maybe spot something going wrong or maybe an infection of some kind?

My 2nd son did a similar thing around this age for about a month, but he would dig his teeth in to my breast as he slid off:eek: ~very sore I feel your pain but he did keep feeding and eventually go on to self wean at 15 months.

A little Bicarb in some water applied to your nipples(or put some in your bath) can help speed up healing and Breastmilk has excellent healing properties. The wool fat or Lansinoh is good to

hope you find a cure.

I used bepanthen when I had cracked nipples. I also walked around the house topless to let the air get to my nipples (keep the curtains closed, altho my DH liked it...lol) and also a little breastmilk rubbed onto your nipples and allowed to dry might also help.

A friend just gave me a tube of Lansinoh its for breastfeeding mothers.
You put it on after every feed & it doesn't need to be washed off before you feed again.
It seems to be doing the job for me now that lil miss has a toothy lol ;)

I have had the worst time with my nipples, I actually had such bad cuts that I had holes in my nipples, and unfortuneatly got infections, but the best thing in the whole world is Paw Paw Cream, it comes in a red tube and works wonders, and dosent need to be washed off. I found it much better than the Lanisnoh because it wasnt as sticky.

you can get paw paw ointment from most chemists, priceline, places like that. It comes in a red tube or tub.

None of the ointments worked for me when i had Logan, but i started expressing a little milk onto my nipples, and rubbing it in, then leaving it to dry for a second or 2....it worked wonders!
