Hi,
we have a home to go to now when we arrive in Tas, we will be living in rented accommoldation in Sandy bay which looks like a lovely area. It will be so lovely to be by the sea, I grew up on the South Coast of England so love being by the sea but where we live right now is right in the middle of England, about as far from the coast as you can get.
I was wondering what there is to do in the area with little ones. I have Toby who is 16 months old and here I take him to a sing and dance class weekly and also a Tiny Tots group. I am guessing there is something like that in the area? Does anyone know what there is in the area? If you do I would love to know.
Thanks

hello lynda,
Don't think i've welcomed you yet, so welcome:)
Sandy Bay is a beautiful suburb! I don't actually live there but there are plenty of activities to do with bubs in the general Hobart area. Things like gymbaroo - I actually received an email from them the other day re. their new term starting on 6th feb.- I can forward this to you if you like. Also, there is the aquatic centre in town, about 5min drive from sandy bay. They have toddler swim classes. There is also a program called Kindermusic, don't know much about this though. At least at these places you meet other mum's, then it starts from there. Now that there are a few Hobart mums, we could probably meet up as well:)
Any other Q's, feel free to ask....

Hi Louise
thank you for the reply, we come from a very small village here in the Uk and the community is great and their ar eloads of things for kids to do in the area, I am scared that I am going to feel a little lost in Tasmania and be stuck at home all day not knowing anyone.
For this reason I am determined to try and get involved in things with the boys as it is a great way to get to know people.
I would love it if you sent me the mail you received from gymberoos, it sounds great fun!
I am really keen to get all 3 boys involved in swimming lessons as we are leaving the 'system' here and it is unlikely we will get them back in when we return so I need to get them swimming as proficiently as possible during our time in Tas. I am at the stage now where I jsut want to be there now and get things sorted and settled.
We need to get beds and things when we get there, I heard that a shop called Fanatstic Furniture is good for affordable but OK quality furniture, is this true?
Thank you for the welcome and information

Hi Lynda,
Have sent you that form as a PM, If it doesn't work properly, let me know.
Yeah, Fantastic furnature is a bargain place to get new furniture. You can get a whole house full nearly for a couple of grand. I think a lot of it is 'flat pack' stuff, so you need to be a bit hand to put it all together!
Hope I've been helpful:)

thank you both for taking the time to reply.
Louise I did get the form thank you and have looked at it. I am not sure yet how my weeks are going to be organised so I may phone them when I get over there to see when they have vacancies and see if I can be squeezed in somwhere.
Always so much to think about!
Olivia&Bellasmummy - thank you for that list of things to do, it seems as if we are going to be very busy. I would love to meet up with other Hobart mums although am slightly worried I may be a bit of an 'old fogey' as we say here in England! I see all of the ages of the members and everyone seems to be in their 20s and I am 36 - ouch!!!! - Young at heart though!
We leave the Uk on the 14th Feb and get to Hobat on the morning of the 16th. Obviously the first few days we will be getting things straight and I have an appointment at a school on the 20th as they have a space for our little one in Prep but not a space for our older one in Grade 3 so we are having to beg!
Once things get settled it would be fun to get togther. How old are everyones children? We have 3 boys who are almost 8, just turned 5 and 16 months.

Hi Lynda
Age does not bother me, all my friends here in Bris are 30+ anyways and we all get along just fine!
What kind of interests/hobbies do you have. Tell me about you :)
We leave on the 13th Feb! 1 day before you LOL sounds like we will both be settling in and unpacking at the same time.
Would love to meet up in the city (or town as they call it there lol) for a coffee some time :D
I too found it hard to know what to do with small children when I came from the UK and wrote a book listing them all! It is now 3 years old but may be helpful when you get here. Only a few copies left which is a great relief to us when we started off with so many boxes! My boys are also 7 and 5 now. You will find Tassie really friendly and I bet you will enjoy the lifestyle once you get here. If you want to meet up with any other Brits, let me know! Wendy

Yikes a little about me...
well I am old..(lol) In the past I was very sporty, prefering martial arts which I used to teach (Shotokan Karate), but I had to stop when pregnant with my first as I was so sick and I never really got back in to it so am now a lapsed fighter! I enjoy cycling and walking and also I love crafts, most things such as sewing, cross stitch, knitting, art and card making - of course with three young kids i don't have any real hobbies or in fact 'life' of my own anymore but i wouldn't have it any other way!
Career wise I am a qualified Secondary School science teacher, I teach all disciplines of science up to 16 years old and then Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Science up to 18 year olds. I did however give this up a few months after my second child was born as he never slept and I never had time to do my marking and preparation. So now I am a 'stay at home mum' and love it!
I am hoping to get fitter whilst I live in Tasmania and spending lots of time with my boys outside.

Your book sounds like an ideal read, I shall have to get in touch with you when I get there and purchase a copy. Being that our boys are the same age you should be a perfect person for letting me know what to do with them. We have got them a place at school now, the school looks lovely I can't wait to see it in the flesh so to speak.

Hey there!
I've been away for a little while but I like all of Olivia&Bella'smummy's suggestions.
Sandy Bay is a very nice, ritzy area to live in - there's lovely beaches to walk on, a few nice little parks around, you're very close to the southern outlet also, which is the gateway for lots more fun & adventure like the huon valley etc.
I love the idea that we should all meet up - who cares how old everyone is? In my original clinic mothers group we ranged from 22 - 36 as first time mothers and we all got along really well & still catch up every now and then when we can! I've had a ball meeting some of the Melb mums while visiting the city late Jan. I'm heading back there early march with all the kids while hubby is on another work trip and I hope to meet more of them!
When do you arrive?

HI Anna,
we arrive in Hobart on Friday 16th Feb, not v ery long now - only next week - arghhh
The boys had their farewell party last Friday and me and dh have ours this coming Saturday, it is going to be so hard to say goodbye to everyone, especially my mum and my dogs.
It sounds liuke it was a good choice getting a home in Sandy Bay, it is not veyr easy making a choice over teh internet when you are on the otherside of the world.
Dh has been to see it and thinks it is great but we are now both worried about the kids and the balcony, I think the 7yo and the 5yo will be ok, it is just our little one year old that is the one are worried about, he is a little monkey and is sure to climb it and there is a long drop down!
I shall look forward to meeting up with all you Tassie mums
