View Full Version : Lambskin in bassinet?
I have a bassinet ready for bubs, but it has a standard plastic-covered foam mattress that seems like it would be really uncomfortable for a newborn. I was thinking about putting a lambswool stroller insert in there (which fits perfectly), but I'm worried about SIDS. The lambskin wouldn't be covering the baby - just lying on top of it. Plus if its OK for a baby to fall asleep on top of the lambskin in a pram or car seat, surely its OK in a bassinet too? Does anyone think this is a bad idea?
hi there
as long as you had a fitted sheet over the top of the lambswool i couldnt see a problem.
when i called out a sleep specialist for Chloe she took one look at our bassinette and said i bet you wouldnt like to sleep on a mattress that hard lol and made it softer and Chloe slept so much better.....
congratulations on your pregnancy :)

Thats what I thought too.
I thought about that, but the fitted sheets I have all seem to be a bit of a tight fit already. So with a fairly thick lambskin there, there's no way I could get a fitted sheet to cover it as well. Maybe if I ask my Mum nicely she might make me some.
Thanks Aimz. I'm amazed how awful all of the bassinet mattresses seem to be, especially compared to the beautiful innerspring mattress we have for our cot. You'd think poor little newborns should have a bit of comfort wouldn't you?
My bubs slept on lambskins in their cradle and cot. I love the idea that they are sleeping on something soft and made of a natural fibre, plus they are just so warm and comfy. Plus I think it helps to prevent bub from getting a flat spot. Check out the ABA(mothers direct) website for lambskins tanned with less harmful chemicals if you are at all concerned about that.

Lambskin etc can pose as a sids risk but it depends on the length of the fleece if that makes sense? I can't remember what length was okay to use perhaps google that;)
