Is he wanting to start his own death metal group or is this "normal" ?
Ive read that little ones do this around this age especially boys but at the same time im going insane !!!!
I fear he will hurt himself :(
He gets up on his hands & knees in his cot then rams his head into the ends its really horrible !
Then whether he is sitting in his highchair or on my lap he throws himself backwards & slams the back of his head against whatever is behind him !
So im now getting rather sore on my chest from him slamming against me as im often holding him etc.
Im not holding him against his will when i hold him as he is often babbling away & playing or eating in his highchair when he starts but on the off chance he if is getting frustrated & i put him down he gets angry i have done so & screams.
I know its a phase so to speak but im worried he will hurt himself IYKWIM.
Im just wanting to know whether i am doing something wrong or if it is "normal" & he will grow out of it.

Oh dear...
I saw my bro doing this the other day in the highchair... banging his head back over and over again, made me cringe!!
It will just be a phase, usually stopping when the dear hurts himself! lol
Life's hard ...but so is a boys head :p

Oh I so remember freaking out when my fourth son started rocking and banging his head. I thought maybe he wasnt getting enough attention, but no i'm afraid its just something SOME little children do to freak their mums out LOL
Dont worry about it Ally, he will definately outgrow it. He wont hurt himself, and if he does ...it will slow him down a bit LOL
Ahhhh BOYS...ya just gotta love em ;)

Yup, my eldest used to bang his head on our wooden floorboards:eek:....horrible to watch and he ended up with a couple of nasty bruises but this stage just passed on its own and luckily didnt last very long:)
It must be very scary.
Apparently my husband did it as a baby ,and I hate to tell you, didn't stop til he was about 12! My mil said he would do it in the car and the whole car would vibrate. He gave up doing it when he went away to boarding school and decided it was a bit babyish.
I've warned him if our baby does it I'm blaming him, lol.:p

My daughter did it for a while but has appeared to have stopped now at age 2. we have carpet at home and during our holidays we had floorboards which hurt a bit more and now she isn't doing it.

my early childhood nurse told me its a normal phase even though not all kids so it
for my son it was an attention thing so we ignored him its killed me to do it but i had to (lucky he has a hard head)
anyways it will pass and he is normal
good luck

OMG OMG OMG !!!!
12yrs old
Oh i dont think i can possibly cope THAT long *dies*
Thanks for your replies girls i knew it was "normal" so to speak but its all so daunting i just want him to stop ! Im scared if someone sees the bruises etc what they may think etc. Not that he has bruises all the time just every now & then he goes a little to hard & gets a little bit of swelling & colour.
Im petrified for when we get our new floating floor in a months time as it means there will be more hard surface area he will have access to to hurt himself :(
Ive already told my partner he had better give me a lovely peaceful girl next time round or else ! ;)

my son, now 10 months has been doing it since he could sit up...
he bangs his head on the floor, walls, bed, cot, mummys head :( anywhere he can really...
hopefully he will grow out of it soon... half the time it brings tears to my eyes and he crawls away unharmed...
but boys will be boys i guess
My 2 year old Ds is a "headbanger" he will sit on the lounge and bang his head on the back of the lounge.
He will get on all fours and bang his head on the ground, even on cement
even if it hurts, doesnt seem to stop him from doing it again
Also my 8 month old Ds, has started with the hitting the back of the head on the lounge... must just be a boy thing ??
i never had this prob with Dd
