Hi guys,
Has anyones Cat or Dog sensed their pregnancy?
Have they done anything different
ie; Constantly at your side / not very friendly towards partner(or just ignores them) / behavioural changes
Anything at all?
Just curious and i have looked to see if any threads like this & i can't find anything.
Jet has been ignoring DP for about a while now, doesn't want to have anything to do with him and will come straight to me. If DP tries to pick him up then he runs away. We did get Pixie just before Xmas but they are fine together. Now for the last few nights they have been both sleeping on bed with me( 1 at head, 1 at feet or next to me ) Before this week since we have had Pixie, Jet wouldn't sleep at night in same room as Pixie(didn't bother him during the day!!). Now he don't care.
I am ttc atm but just wanted to know if anyone else noticed changes.
Thanks :)

I can't get my cats to leave me alone. They want to be on me all the time, much more than usual.
The puppy is too young to do anything like that, but last pregnancy, my late dog became very protective of me, and quite clingy if I was outside with him. He needed to lean on me constantly. Once baby came home, he backed right off, I think he was scared of her, and I had trouble even getting him to come inside the house until she was walking.

Well I got Gracie my cat when I was about 4/5 months pregnant.
She used to sleep right next to my head, and always came running to bed when I was reading to doze off - wouldn't leave unless she had to use the litter tray or I got up.
Used to stand at the door everytime I went into the bathroom and wait... did that at several locations I was staying at.
Now, she still hangs around a bit, but isn't so attached (ok still attached but not as much as before?)... Sometimes she'll wait for me outside the bathroom door.. oh but she won't come in with me anymore (she always had to be in the bathroom if I was taking a shower!).
So a bit here and there, but not drastically... still craving attention! :p
When i was pregnant with Jakob my cat Merlin hated me it was like i had betrayed him in some way lol the poor thing he was so beautiful.
He started pooing in the house & he wouldn't go near me at all as much as i tried.

Before I was pregnant our cat wouldn't come near me, as soon as I fell he wouldn't leave me alone. This was even before I knew I was pregnant. HE was very protective of me too, wouldn't let strangers (to him!!!) near me.
when i was prego' my dog jack used to try and cuddle up to my tummy its was a strange thing because he never used to do that! my cat used to come to me all the time but when i was going threw my pregnancy he hissed at me tryed to attack me all the time...

About a year ago my mums miniture pony was very sick. My partner did some healing on her, and even the vet said they have no idea HOW she recovered. Anyway she went on her merry way totally ignoring everyone as she does, she ended up having a foal and I predicted the sex, color etc before she was born and felt a real bond with her.
Anyway, the day I found out i was pregnant, I went to my mums farm, my head full of confusion about what i was going to do. Anyway I said to mum I was going to sit with the pony and foal for a while, and my mum warned me she had been getting very snitchy with everyone so watch out.
We looked at each other, and she stared at me so strangely, like she knew. I went into her yard and just sat on the ground and she came up to me...nuzzling me and her foal was doing the same. It was her stare, a knowing look, I cannot explain. But i sat there for an hour, she never left my side and I had NEVER known her to be so affectionate.
She was like that all weekend and my mum was quite amazed. I dont know what she was thinking, but she comforted me in a way nothing else could.
Strange hey?
As soon as I sit down, my cats get on me and start "pawing" on my belly like some sort of stamping on the baby ritual. Normally they would do this on my lap. Once they have had their fill of that, they will settle on my lap or jump off in satisfaction.
My boy cat would also not leave me alone in the first trimester particularly at night and would have to sleep on my pillow or on my head. It was driving me nuts so I've now convinced him that sleeping at the end of the bed is far better for the both of us.
It's not since I've been pregnant, but since my DP moved interstate a couple of weeks ago, my dog has been so naughty! Jumping up on the couch, doing no 2's in the nursery (thankfully the new rug is not on the floor yet) and playing in the middle of the night!! He does love me the most but I can't believe how much like a child he is acting!

I have always had a great bond with one of my cats, when I was pregnant with Cooper he would always come and lay on my belly or sit on the edge of the bath while I was in there etc etc.
The most amazing thing was when I was in labour, I was at home for hours before I went to hospital. He did not leave my side...followed me up and down, up and down and every time I bent over he would rub his face against mine. He is such a sweet heart!

Hey Linda,
When I was pregnant, my cats kept licking me! They wouldn't come near me except to walk past & give my leg a lick! The dry sandpaper tongue on my skin was horrible!!! It drove me nuts! Now both cats are fine with me again.
My dog didn't seem to change, but didn't like that I wouldn't let him jump up on my belly for a cuddle anymore.

I had 3 cats at the time & none of them would leave me alone !
Especially after i found out & was really sick with hyperemesis they would all come & sit in the bathroom with me as i often spent the whole day there or would all lay beside me in bed one at my chest, one at my belly, one at my feet !
But then they knew when the arrival was imminent as they started being naughty trying to get into the nursery & someone did a wee !!! So from then on it was all kept closed & as soon as bubs arrived they went back to normal.
Whereas my doggy hated me :(
She went from being a newly trained well behaved happy dog to a "im not listening to anything YOU say" & would try & knock me over !
Whereas she did everything for my partner ! I mean she always loved him but would still respond to me which she just refused to do when i was pg !

We have an australian cattle dog who always loves to stand on her hind legs and put her paws on your belly and have a cuddle, but since ive been pregnant she hasnt done it once and thats with out being told not to. She still does it to everyone else. The other strange thing she does is lick and nuzzle my growing belly which is something she has never done before me being pregnant. As for my cat he wont let me pick him up at all. He used to hate anyone strange touching him especially males and never ever let DH pick him up for a cuddle now he is all over DH for cuddles and refuses to have anything to do with DH. This is coming from a cat that never left me alone and used to think that i belonged to no one but him so i guess he doesnt like me now that im pregnant.
Shannon and Bubba Squirt.
i had a VERY hypo young dog .... even when he slept he was always rolling around and moving.... then when i became pregnant the whole pregnancy he was VERY protective over me and would sleep VERY still next to me and if i was asleep he wouldnt let ANYONE touch me or get to close... not even my partner who was his favourite person. then when i was awake or he was not near me he was hypo again.
he was anything but a guard dog.. he would lick intruders to death but not when i was sleeping even my partner didnt even try to go near me whilst the dog was watching over me because it was so out of character his movements were un-predictable.
then when the baby was born where ever the baby was youd find my giant dog sleeping on the floor next to him. he was protective over him too..but not like he was me... he always just wanted to know what everyone was doing to the baby then when the baby was put down he woud relax again as though everything was ok because he was near to look after him.
I have a female rottweiler, who as soon as I was pregnant, started lying beside me with her head on my tummy. She was also extra gentle with me, and wouldn't jump up on me like she normally does. Strange how they know! But lovely!:)

Thanks everyone!
It seems they either want to protect you or ignore/hate you for what they see as a betrayal. I have always thought that some animals could sense pregnancies but can't find alot around about it. The closer you are to animal the stronger the reaction they seem to have be it good or bad.
Considering Jet & Pixie won't leave me alone i hope it means something.;)

i didnt think that Terah (our little staffi) had noticed anything until we had a storm a couple of weeks ago. She had snuck inside and was hiding behind me as i was lying on my side - when my partner called her, she went to climb over me, usually she will quite merrily do it, stomping where she needed, but instead she step quite softly, took her time looking around to where she could step that wasnt on my belly. i even felt her shake she was stepping so lightly.
I laughed about it, and my partner goes "see, she is silly, she knows whats going on":D

We have 2 mini foxies, Xylon (youngest at 1 1/2 male) has always been a sook. Other night friend of Hubby came over Xylon barked as usually does but when I spoke to Cameron Xylon jumped on the couch on my lap and was barking even more. Other than that not really they lie.sit on my tummy and think the extra room is great.

My little boy, a black and white cat named Sylvester, has only just now taken an interest in me. I am 7 weeks 2 days. Before he would look at my tummy and then at me and walk off.
Now he is my shadow again, he was always close to me, but now he is even closer :) Gotta love him.
Oscar the wonder dog (Staffy of very little brain) doesn't press his paws into my tummy any more when I'm sitting on the floor - he used to come and sit in my lap and would usually have his front paws digging into my belly.
He used to jump on the bed in the morning to wake us up, but now he stays on the floor. Interesting. He is also being his usual energetic, excited and demanding self with DH, but is more relaxed with me - won't jump up on me even when he's really excited.
Pets are wonderful things.

I didnt think much about our pups noticing my pregnancy until I was reading some of the posts in this thread, and it suddenly hit me that my baby girls have been acting strange lately towards me, more so my younger pup Xena (5 month old staffy). she has always been my little girl more then my fiances but lately she wont go anywhere near him unless I'm there next to him saying its ok and calling her over and she wont listen to a word he says.
My other puppy Chicky (10 month old Pittbull) she has become a little pit protective of me eg always wanting to cuddle up next to me and always wanting to play with me and also litening to me more then normal but in saying that when Dan (dad to be) is around she is completely the opposite, she is more protective of him and wont let me near him without standing in between us etc.
Chicky has been around other babies and has been great with them and loves them whereas Xena hasnt and I'm a little worried about how she might react when the little one arrives as she wont be getting ALLof my attention anymore.
