In W.A?? I'm in Melbourne but my mum lives in Rockingham, which is in that general area. Imo, Kwinana itself is generally a bit rough, some of the other suburbs around there are probably better, esp for kids. It's south of Perth, out of the metro area. If you want anymore info, pm me as I chat to my mum ALL the time and can ask her stuff for you. Are you in W.A??

My DP works in Kwinana but we live closer to Perth SOR, what I have seen looks quite industrial. But nearby is Rockingham, Port Kennedy and a bit further is Secret Harbour they all look quite nice.

I am new to WA so don't know much, a couple of people who post live in the Rockingham area so they may have more info.

Good luck, are you looking at moving to WA?

Hi Nina

Kwinana is an industrial strip (mostly). Most ppl who work there don't live too close IYKWIM? Lots of ppl live in Rockingham, or the the south of the river suburbs of Perth.

Just checked your locale and you're in Vic? Kwinana is to Perth what Altona is to Melbourne (I think, not lived in Melbourne for a while). You know oil refineries, chemical plants, factories, warehouses mostly.

Cheers

i used to live in Medina, which is right next to Kwinana,it is definitely more an industrial suburb. You can smell all the chemicals in the air all the time, not to mention the drags on the weekend.I now live in Port Kennedy and love it here.

Its not as rough as it used to be, but its not a place I would let my kids got to higschool there. Primary school though, I would. Bertram the newer area seems nice I have relatives who live there, and who have lived there for a while, and have never had a problem, and they have kids who go to the schools there, and fnd it quite nice.

As everyone else says, Kwinana is mainly industrial but the surrounding areas seem really nice. A lot of them are newer estates with lots of families living there.

Of course, this website makes it look really good! Hehe

Good points are that it is right near the beach and not too far from the city, but far enough to not get caught up in the hustle and bustle. I have some friends that live in the surrounding areas and they are happy there and the areas are quite nice, but I mainly only pass through on the way to Mandurah and down south. Oh, and I think someone also mentioned that the Motorplex is there. Lots of noisy stinky cars...

Sorry, should have said it wasn't for living there. I have a friend working there, so just wondering what's there.

Sarah, where does your dp work?

My DP works at the Bulk Cargo Terminal, it is nearer the beach than the town centre. Where all the industrial things are. Where does your friend work?

Nina

Here we all thought we were saving you from living with chemical smells and having the paint stripped from your car (OK, maybe not quite that bad). A tonne of ppl work there (like my DH and I on the occasional day used to). The only bad thing I could say was that there isn't a good coffee shop handy like there is when you work in the city. But a pie van is sure to visit  .

Cheers

Well not such a reassuring thread to look at if you just put an offer on a house in Orelia...(basically Kwinana) - the house so gorgeous and where we looked it all seemed really nice...and because of the railline coming in the high school having millions chucked into it and so is the hub (shopping centre) - and as so close to Rockingham and the gorgeous beaches there we thought gr8 place to start and move in few years to Rockingham when could afford...ie when not 1st time buyers and made some money. But obviously we very niave I new to Perth and find alot of the areas semi industrial anyway unless you have shed loads of money and can afford Peppermint grove & surrounds or Hillarys etc... we pay $270 a week in Belmont/Ascot which I think the pits and to buy in most areas around here in fact anywhere but Clarkson or Kwinana area you seem to need over 270,000 unless you don't mind being miles form beaches. I not too worried anyway if Rockingham only 12minute drive away and we way off thinking off schools. PS couldn't smell any fumes at all and asked a few next door neighbours about noise form Motorplex and fumes and they said not much noise and fumes maybe 1 or 2 days a year a whiff of sulphur.

I think some people though, forget that the kwinana industrial area is a little different to the living area of Kwinana, its not like they are right next door to each other.

There are some very lovely houses there!! Some not so lovely houses too, but you get that anywhere. Some people just take more pride.

The HUB shopping centre is will be shut down with in a few years, they are building a new one which will take over.

I must be a lead foot cause it only takes about 5 mins to get to Rockingham! LOL ;)

For me, sending my kids to the highschool is more about the fights and stuff I hear that goes on there, not the structure itself. Kwinana High is actually very well equiped and has a great computer department.

I saw the thread title, and thought someone had managed to cross a banana with a kiwi fruit.

I'm seriously disappointed now.

I live in kwinana (orelia) n i have never had any problem here and never smelt any fumes or anything. As the the drags i go there all the time (parents owned drag cars) n it not loud at all the only time u will hear it is if the jet cars or nitro's r going down and there passes only last 5-6seconds anyway. It is a nice place n i got no problem sending our daughter to school here.
