Hi everyone! I took DD to the Doctor to have her 6 month immunisations on Tuesday, and she was such a brave little soldier! She just gave a little yelp but then it was if it hadn't happened!

But since then...... she has been very hard to settle, which is out of character for her. I have given her a little panandol this morning and she had a big sleep but now she is back to being very grumpy. I have also noticed a lump in her thigh right near were the injection went in, there is a little bit of bruising too.

Should I be concerned or is this normal? DD was good for the last two immunistations..... or am I just forgeting?!!!

Kyle usually has trouble settling after shots, it lasts for about a week. The really stuff some kids around. I would get the lump looked at in a weeks time if it is still there. It is a side effect and usually nothing to worry about.

CJ gets a lump too after most injections. Usually it's nothing to worry about, but he had to go on anti-biotics after one lot coz it was a little infection. I'd get it checked out if i were you. Just to be safe!! :)
The grumpieness... TOTALLY normal :p ( well at least for us anyway ;) )

Oliver had a lump, but only at one of the vaccinations.
I got really worried about it because it took weeks and weeks to go away. It slowly started to shrink. The dr said it's not a problem as long as it doesn't look infected.
Get it checked if you are worried about it.;)

What your bubs is going through is normal unfortunately they become a little grumpy or upset at times & sometimes the wound site is lumpy & a little painful. So just give bubs llots of extra cuddles & time also just watch the leg that has the lump as in try not to bump it & be gentle. Also if it starts looking infected then take bubs to the doctor as thats not a good sign otherwise from time to time it may get a little warm or bubs is more irritated by it just use a cold face washer to help soothe it & use panadol as needed. It can often take up to 4wks for it to go away.
My poor bubs took around the 4wk mark not nice but it does get smaller with time & lots of cuddles seems to solve all the troubles in the world :D

Some babies get a reaction to the Tetnus injection. It sometimes causes swelling and redness and heat from the site. It used to happen to me and I can still remember getting a shot after falling on a rusty nail and then feeling feverish and it hurting for 2 days in my arm which had a huge bright red lump on it.
I would give bubs some panadole and use a cold compress on the site.
Aiden had a bruise for 2 weeks after his last shot, but I'm not sure if it was because the doctor was crappy at giving them or if it was a reation to the Tetnus.
I'll know tomorrow when he gets his 4 month immunisation.

Thanks for the advice and reasurance guys!

I remeber now after DD had her 4 month needles she was a bit out of sorts for about two weeks. One of my girlsfriends suggested that the lump was probably just the liquid that was injected and that it hadn't dispersed yet. I'm off to see the childrens dr - you know the one that starts with a P - (on another matter, a spungy wrinkly heal but that's another thread!) so I will get him to have a look at it anyway. Better to be safe that sorry! It's been extremely hot here at the moment so that is probaly adding to her being unsettled.

Thanks again I'd be lost without BUBHUB! :D
