Hi, I just want to say that we had to take our poor DS to the hospital last night as he could not breath properly. He was struggling to breath and he was weezing.
We thought we would have to wait at the hospital for hours(as you do) but he got in straight away(thank goodness).
The doc said it is probably asthma but they don't usually diagnose asthma in babies untill they are over one. They call it bronchiolitis but the doc said it's the same thing as asthma.
My Ds gets asthma and has food allergies which are inherited from me. I get asthma as well so I figured he would get it sooner or later.
I just want to say that it was really sad though seeeing my Ds struggling to breath. I felt so sorry for him as I knew how he was feeling. He wasn't distressed though, he was quiet happy. I guess he did'nt know what was goin on.
We were at the hospital for about 1 1/2 hrs and the doctor gave him several doses of ventolin and steriods. His breathing got much better. I didn't like the idea of giving him the steriods as it has bad side effects(stunts growth and bone development) but I guess he needed it.
The doctors gave me an appointment to see the peadiatrition at the hospital today. So we will see what he has to say.
I just hope my little man is going to be ok
Thankyou for listening?(reading!)

He won't necessarily end up with asthma even though he has had bronchiolitis at a young age ... both of my kdis had it several times before the age of one and neither of them have asthma.

Take care ... it is really frightening ... I found that putting bub to sleep in the pram with the seatback semi-reclined helped to make breathing easier.

The hospitals are really great at getting bubs and young kids straight through to medical attention ... I have only had to wait a long time when my kids "injuries" have been relatively minor! All of the other times we have been taken straight through.

you poor thing, how scary!! :( i hope your bubs is feeling much better.
anyone who presents at emergency with breathing difficulties/chest pain will nearly always be given priority and be seen to almost immediately, lets hope this was just a one off for him. :)

thanks everyone for your kind words and support, it is much appriciated.
We went back to the hospital to see the pead and she said that it was asthma and not bronchiolitis given that he responded to the ventolin and steriods. Also being that he has eczema, food allergies and a family history of asthma.
At least I now know and can treat the first signs of it before it gets too bad.
He is much better today, breathing well.
Thanks again x

Bubbles...it's scary when they have trouble breathing...My son had colic in june 2005 and we ended up at the childrens...It is scary but I'm glad that a diagnosis has been made and at least you can try and prevent it...If you need the name of a pediatric respiratory physician then please let me know ...Do you have a pediatrician generally?:)

Hi Shajake,
no I don't have a pediatrician but that would be great if you know of a good pediatric respiratory physician and can give me the number. I would like to go and see one to make sure everything is sorrted out.
Thank you kindly
